  • The cottage was just as described - it has rustic charm and a beautiful setting! I concur with a previous guest that the driveway would be very easy to miss if you do not pay attention to the directions. A great place to get away from it all - I happily spent a long time enjoying the lake view out the front of the cottage - but also within 15 minutes of a grocery, the airport, and a few more minutes to downtown Traverse City. We missed going out in the canoe because it rained our last day, but nice to have the option.

  • Our time at the cottage was wonderful. The cottage was very clean, nicely appointed and located on a beautiful lake. We were close to Traverse City, but also a short drive to Charlevoix, Fish Town near Leland, and of course Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Joyce provided wonderful suggestions for restaurants, places to see, and things to do. Every day provided a new place to explore. Coming home to the cottage each night allowed us to escape the commercial areas and enjoy the lake, observe ducks, geese and the occasional muskrat.

We would recommend this cottage to anyone interested in coming to the Traverse City area.

  • We had a great time at this cottage: it was cozy and relaxing yet modern enough we were not totally separated from the world. The lake upfront, the fire pit and the canoes made the stay even better. 15 mins of an easy drive to downtown makes it really convenient. We loved it.

  • Thank you so much. We have booked this cottage for a few relaxing days on our trip around the great lakes area. We have never expected such a nice and beautiful place. Everything you need for a pleasant stay was available included some information about the region. Perfect! The neighbors was very friendly. A special thanks to Leo and Tom for the fishes. :) There is a lot to see (snapping turtles, muskrats, geese...) The nightly visits from the raccoon was so cool. Thank you Joyce.

one little tip: The neighbors are not the Cavenders. :)

  • What an unexpected treasure to come across while looking for places to rent so that my boyfriend and I could extend a stay while already in town for a conference. It is nearby absolutely everything T.C. and its surrounding areas have to offer (shopping, food, entertainment, parks and beaches, wine trails, etc.) and yet is far enough out of town and situated on a tiny inland lake to offer a secluded getaway from life's daily hazels. The cottage itself is charming and beautifully rustic in its location and decor but Steve and Joyce have included all the creature comforts (coffee maker, microwave, cable with DVR, wifi) one might still want while escaping reality for a few days. We highly recommend "The Cottage" and look forward to returning!

  • Joyce made the stay absolutely amazing! The personal touches were so nice, the atmosphere relaxing. about 10 -15 minutes from downtown Traverse City, it was far enough out of the way to be relaxing and peaceful, but close enough to enjoy the sights. Such a gracious host, she even checked in a couple times during my stay to make sure things were well. The birds/ducks, chipmunks, and squirrels were fun to watch, the location, found easily with her directions. Great price, great host, great place.

  • Joyce's cottage was an ideal three night respite for my husband and I. The cottage is quaint, comfortable and ideally located just 20 minutes from Traverse City. We took the canoe out on the lake, made a fire in the pit and had gourmet meals at some top notch restaurants in Traverse City. It was awesome and a pleasant surprise that Joyce stocks the fridge with many essentials and more!!! We will definitely return.

  • We had a great time at the cottage! We loved the vintage decor and lots of personal touches for our comfort. Beautiful, quiet setting by the lake, but still just a short drive to Traverse City and all it offers. Joyce is a very gracious host. We would definitely stay here again!
