gorgeous old chocolate factory

Loft - Entire home/apt · Schwedter Straße, Berlin, Berlin 10435, Germany

The Space

The former chocolate factory was buildt in 1895 and completely refurbished in 2009 into beautiful apartments full of light and space.

The luxurious loft is located right were the two most well-known parts of Berlin, the artistic, bohemian Prenzlauer Berg and the stylish, cosmopolitan Mitte meet, just around the corner from famous Kastanienallee and Mauerpark.

On the first floor of the old factory, the loft is facing the backyard. It is very quiet, the property is set back from the street and seperated by an electric gate.

INTERIOR

heigh ceilings

very large factory windows facing east

large, sunny balcony

bathroom with bathtub, window and washing machine

kitchen: induction cooker, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, all by the top brands Miele, Neff, Bosch and Liebherr, kettle, high quality pots and pans (WMF), and so on.

wireless interkom/buzzer with display, high speed internet access (WiFi), flat screen TV, Berlin music CD-Player, radio with MP3, king size-bed (180x200cm), original Italian leather couch; white bed sheets and towels are provided.

The loft incl. bathroom is kept warm and cosy by underfloor heating.

If you want to divide the living room/kitchen area from the sleeping area, you can close a huge, state-of-the-art sliding door.

The Neighborhood

The Schwedter Strasse is a great location to start your experience in Berlin. There are numerous cafés, bars and restaurants on Katanienallee, Oderbergerstrasse, Zionskirchplatz and so on. As the biggest and best preserved pre-war area in Germany (most buildings are from the 1880s), the district is getting more and more popular, but still there are loads of little stores selling fashion, vintage furniture or memorabilia of the old times.

A supermarket and bakery are right across the street, an organic supermarket is 200m, Europe´s biggest organic supermarket is 800m down the road. On sundays the famous Mauerpark flea market and the nice little flea market at Arkonaplatz are literally just around the corner. To get a glimpse of the city`s history you can walk down the road about 800m to the Berlin Wall Memorial.

Getting around

There are four tube stations nearby: Eberswalderstrasse / Senefelder Platz (U2) or Bernauerstrasse / Rosenthaler Platz (U8) and several tram stops. For example, to reach:

- the Alexanderplatz: 5 minutes by tube or a 20-minute walk
- the Hackescher Markt: 10 minutes by tram or a 20-minute walk
- the River Spree and the georgious Museumsinsel (World Heritage Site): 10 minutes by tram or (which I would highly recommend) a 30-minute-walk down the tree-lined, newly renovated streets of East-Berlin, passing by a lot of galleries, cafés and shops.

All the other famous sides (Brandenburg Gate, Friedrichstrasse, Potsdamer Platz, etc.) are also easy and quick to get to.

An ideal base to explore Berlin; I would love to be your host in this vibrant, ever-changing city.

  • I have stayed at over 20 airbnb locations over the last year, around the world, and I can say that without a doubt, Ingo has been the best host I've been fortunate to meet. He takes the hosting portion very seriously and it's not just a grab a key and here's your room like many places I've stayed.

The old factory location was absolutely perfect for my multi-week stay. Close to the LRT and a short walk from the main subways. A grocery store across the street, one of the best coffee places in Berlin around the corner, and plenty of great restaurants for any type of foodie are all walking distance.

Not only would I recommend staying at this location and with Ingo, I already have a return trip planned in three months and will definitely try to get the old factory location again!

  • The apartment was wonderful; exactly as it appears in pictures: modern, clean, and well-maintained. The king size bed was very comfortable and we used the washing machine several times during the stay. Ingo met us when we arrived and spent 30 minutes with us, drawing a map that included many recommendations for the surrounding neighborhood. Because the apartment faces an interior courtyard, not the street, it was extremely quite. The apartment was fully stocked with everything that one needs. Honestly, I cannot recommend this rental highly enough; we will definitely stay here again when we are back in Berlin.

  • Tolle Wohnung, geniale Lage mitten in Prenzlauer Berg.

  • Beautiful apartment in a perfect location, highly recommended! The apartment is even better than the pictures suggest, all the furniture, bathroom, wooden floors etc are very high end. Ingo is the perfect host, very professional and very personal at the same time. He took plenty of time to provide us with tons of recommendation for cafes, restaurants, bars, & clubs, allowing us to have a wonderful time in Berlin. Stayed there for a week and will come again.

  • Ingo's flat was a lovely base for our stay in Berlin. Ingo took the time to direct us to his favourite Berlin cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs. The area is quiet but easily walking distance to everything, with multiple stations nearby. The flat itself is sparkling clean and very comfortable.

  • We used airbnb the first time and it was a great experience at Ingos apartment.
It is located in the best part of Berlin with a lot of small fashion stores, very good restaurants and bars nearby the centre of the city. However it is very quiet for a city backyard apartment and very safe, because the area is closed at night for non-residents. A nice feature is the 7am to 12pm supermarket with a bakery vis-à-vis of the old chocolate factory.
The apartment is very clean, comfortable, stylish and equipped with everything you need. Towels, bed linen, cook- and tableware,etc...
Ingo is an incredibly wonderful host. Everything, from a welcome bottle of water on the table to a personalized map to the detailed explanation where to go, couldn´t have been better. Ingo took a lot of time for us and was very helpful and kind the whole time of our stay. We recommend the apartment and Ingo to everyone. Four thumps up!
Vier Daumen hoch!

  • highly recommended this beautifully kept apartment. Ingo welcomed us and provided information about local sights and importantly where to get the best coffee in Berlin, (just around the corner). The apartment is modern, light and airy. The bed extremely comfortable. It was a pleasure to stay.

  • Ingo was an excellent host. He was available for anything we needed.
The flat was very very nice and fully equipped for an enjoyable stay. The location is amazing as you can walk everywhere and you are just a block away from very good restaurants and shops.
Would definitely return to this flat and would recommend it to everyone.

  • Even before we landed in Berlin, Ingo was an extremely helpful host. He met up with us at a café right by the apartment and gave us an incredibly detailed, hand-drawn and personalized map to help us get our bearings in the city.

The apartment itself is impeccable. There is a very high attention to detail and it is clear that Ingo wants every guest to feel completely at home during their stay, no matter the duration. One of those small details that we found particularly thoughtful was the CD with traditional and popular German songs. We found that it was the perfect accompaniment to getting ready in the morning, and yet another way that showed that Ingo wanted us to have the best stay possible.

Even throughout our visit, Ingo sent intermittent messages to make sure we were both enjoying our stay and to find out if there was anything we needed. Though there was nothing he could have done to make our stay any better, it was nice to know that he was there should we have any concerns.

Both of us would strongly suggest for our friends to stay in this apartment during their next stay in Berlin.

Thank you so much for everything Ingo!
