The Space

Relax in this modern houseboat.
My water-home (email hidden), please just read the reviews...
This is a popular listing and I update the calendar daily. Please don't ask about booking dates that are already blocked in the calendar.

Outside areas:
There is a private garden with bike parking on the land side, and a 4*5 meter south-facing private deck on the water. The BBQ can be used (email hidden) that keeps you warm in the evenings.

The boat is in a quiet canal with no big tour-boats passing by. I am a skipper myself. During the boating season, I will be charging my electric ship moored next to the living room. I'll probably need to pass your the deck once or twice per day.
Naturally, I'll respect your privacy and I won't need to enter the boat itself.
There is an upstairs neighbor. She has her own entrance. Her charming red cat likes to hang out in the garden.

There is one full-size master bedroom & a small boat-style second bedroom. Both with queen size bed (140*200cm). The small bedroom has an extra cable TV set.

A single folding bed can be put in the living room on request.
All beds include duvet, fresh bed-linnen and towels.

The cozy living room offers free view of the canals. The pellet-heater provides safe, easy heating and the romance of a fireplace.
There are no neighbors in view so you enjoy maximum privacy. Double glazing and hardwood floors throughout.

The downstairs laundry room has a washer, dryer and ironing board for your use.

Equipped with full-size bathtub with shower, towel-drying heater and hair-dryer.

This houseboat has a modern fully-equipped kitchen with gas-stove, two types of coffee machine, blender, oven and dishwasher, but no microwave or toaster.

For your convenience, I have a prepaid phone you can use to call me if you need information, or call a taxi. You can also take the phone into town so I can help you find your way back...

For the so inclined, there is a popular coffeeshop around the corner. My home is smoke-friendly.

Boat tours:
I'm a skipper in the Amsterdam canals. Pickup from the train station and other boat tours may be arranged.

Pets / allergies:
Your dogs are also welcome on the boat and in the garden!
I have no carpets, only hypo-alergic hardwood floors.
All rooms, including bathroom and bedrooms have opening windows.
Whilst I have no pets, the upstairs neighbor does have a cat. It likes to play in the garden.

My houseboat uses only green electricity and recycled wood for its energy and heating. My tour-boat is one of the only solar-powered electric ships in Amsterdam.

Guest Access

Besides the two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and lounge, there is a nice private deck right by the water. Sit in the sun, or even take a swim in the canal!
There is also a shady garden. That's where I park my bikes.

Interaction with Guests

I may be out of town, especially in the winter. However, from April till October I'm a skipper in the Amsterdam canals. I may be able to pick you up from the train station in my electric ship!

The Neighborhood

Located in a small park in the west part of town (Bos en Lommer), it's less than one mile west of the Anne Frank house.

Food / drink:
There are a few nice restaurants in the area (see guide), a few breakfast / lunch places and a supermarket just around the corner.

For kids, there is a wonderful playground right next-door. I love the zipline!
Take a morning run at the Erasmus park nearby, or explore the city using the included bikes.

Getting around

INCLUDES BIKES. A 5-minute ride to the Jordaan, any place in Amsterdam can be reached within 30 minutes.
11 minutes by tram from Central Station; 15-minute tram ride away from Dam square.

If my schedule permits, I can pick you up from Central Station in my covered boat. That's arriving in style!

I'll send a user manual upon booking. This contains wifi password, key code and more detailed info.

  • We spend 2 nights in the Marc's Sunny Boat et and it was just perfect !!
The sunny boat is very nice, comfortable and well equiped.
The little terrasse on the water is terrible, and the place is so quiet that we only hear the birds in the morning.
We used brand new Marc's bicycles to go in the center, and that was verry cool !!

Hope to come again to the Sunny Boat !!!

  • I always dreamt of lining on a houseboat for a while. Amsterdam is probably the best city to make this dream come true. The houseboat is well equipped and offered enough space for our family. While sitting on the little floating terrace you could feel the waves caused by the other boats and observe the busy central market on the other side of the canal. Marc was a great host, forthcoming and easy-going. He picked us up on his boat from the station and even took the time to make an amazing city tour on the same boat. There is really nothing like gliding through the Grachten on a totally silent, solar powered boat... while the other tourists are cramped inside the big, overly full tour boats:-) The old industrial quarter, now turned park, near to the boat is a great spot for walking, jogging and an veining bear. Marc was so friendly to provide bikes, so a trip to the city center does only take 10 minutes and there is no better way then experiencing Amsterdam by bike. So, Marc always seems to think one step or two ahead of his guests.

  • We had a great two nights at Marc's houseboat.
He is a wonderful guy, very gracious and helpful.
In order to get the most out of the place, you have to want to do a lot of biking, but we were totally fine with it.

  • Our experience on the houseboat was amazing. First, Marc is the most amazing host. We were picked up at the train station by him in his boat and then had a lovely tour around the canals before being taken to the houseboat. Second, the houseboat is perfect for a stay in Amsterdam. It sits on a corner of the canal which provides a large amount of privacy which makes the dock a wonderful place to sit, relax, and possibly nap for a bit. Additionally, the house was very comfortable, functional, and livable. It is somewhere we looked forward to spending time after a day of touring. Myself and the other guests highly recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed. Overall, a wonderful experience that all of us hope to repeat in the future.

  • What a great weekend in Amsterdam! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marc's cozy comfortable houseboat! We loved the waterside view and the sunny deck to relax and enjoy. Marc is an incredibly generous host! It was so convenient to be able to use the bikes and the barbecue. Also we enjoyed a very unique boat tour all across town done by a friend of Marc which was so fun and interesting! We would love to come back again. Greetings from Düsseldorf, Annette, Steffi, Mari and Mo

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Sunny Houseboat. The location is fantastic as you can see from the picture. The Houseboat is very confortable and has everything you need to feel at home. It is in a nice and quiet area and you can use the bycicles and ride to the center in no more than 15 minutes (or take the tram if you prefer). Our host Marc was extremely kind to us and brought us twice for a boat tour on his boat, which is the best way to visit Amsterdam.

  • Marc houseboat’s is the perfect place to go in Amsterdam for small group of people (family or friend).
First of all, Marc is a really nice host: reactive to e-mails to prepare the trip, available by phone during the stay and a really nice person. We had a very cool canal tour on his electrical boat with great and interesting explanations.
The houseboat is well situated and equipped. Here is a good point list:
-There is a terrace where you can have a BBQ and you can easily see some ducks.
-This place is really quiet compare to town center
-There are bikes to go to Amsterdam’s center easily in 10minutes
To summarize, my family and me spend a wonderful time in Amsterdam at Marc houseboat’s and we strongly recommend this place to future visitors!

  • Marc's Houseboat is awesome. Everything was well organized and he was a great host. The boat is definitly the place to be, if you are looking for an accommodation for a group of people to have some great days in Amsterdam. 5 bikes are included and we enjoyed rides form the boat to the city center a lot.
    Thanks Marc !

My background is in music technology. I studied at the University of Utrecht and MIT. During the summer I tour the canals of Amsterdam in my electric ship, In winter I'm a computer programmer in Valencia, Spain. I occasionally perform with my electronic instruments. My music style ranges from free-style electro to techno house. I'm very proud of my city. Amsterdam is perhaps the most special city in the world: Relaxed, scenic and just the right size. Besides the obvious tourist attractions, there is the wonderful architecture and over 40 museums. I know you'll have a wonderful time in the Netherlands!
