About this listing
Spacious, modern houseboat in a quiet canal just west of the city center.
Includes bikes to get around town.
Relax in this modern houseboat.
This is a popular listing, I update the calendar daily. Dates that are already blocked in the calendar are not available.
There is a private garden with bike parking on the land side, and a 4*5 meter (200 SqFt) south-facing private deck on the water. The BBQ can be used to keep you warm in the evenings.
The boat is in a quiet canal with no big tour-boats passing by. I am a skipper myself. During the boating season, I will be charging my electric ships moored next to the living room. I'll probably need to pass your the deck once or twice per day.
Naturally, I'll respect your privacy and I won't need to enter the boat itself.
There is an upstairs neighbor. She has her own entrance. Her charming red cat likes to hang out in the garden.
There is one full-size master bedroom & a small boat-style second bedroom. Both with queen size bed (140*200cm). The small bedroom is equipped with cable TV.
A single folding bed can be put in the living room on request.
All beds include duvet, fresh bed-linnen and towels.
The cozy living room offers free view of the canals. The pellet-heater provides safe, easy heating and the romance of a fireplace.
There are no neighbors in view so you enjoy maximum privacy. Double glazing and hardwood floors throughout.
The downstairs laundry room has a washer, dryer and ironing board for your use.
Equipped with full-size bathtub with shower, towel-drying heater and hair-dryer.
This houseboat has a modern fully-equipped kitchen with gas-stove, two types of coffee machine, blender, oven and dishwasher, but no microwave or toaster.
For your convenience, I have a prepaid phone you can use to call me if you need information, or call a taxi. You can also take the phone into town so I can help you find your way back...
For the so inclined, there is a popular coffeeshop around the corner. My home is smoke-friendly.
Please open a window while you smoke, and please don't use air freshener sprays.
I'm a skipper in the Amsterdam canals. Pickup from the train station and other boat tours may be arranged.
Pets / allergies:
Your dogs are also welcome on the boat and in the garden!
I have no carpets, only hypo-alergic hardwood floors.
All rooms, including bathroom and bedrooms have opening windows.
Whilst I have no pets, the upstairs neighbor does have a cat. It likes to play in the garden.
My neighbor has two small pigs. You may hear them at feeding time.
My houseboat uses only green electricity and recycled wood for its energy and heating. My tour-boat is one of the only solar-powered electric ships in Amsterdam.
Located in a small park in the west part of town (Bos en Lommer), it's less than one mile west of the Anne Frank house.
Food / drink:
There are a few nice restaurants in the area (see guide), a few breakfast / lunch places and a supermarket just around the corner.
For kids, there is a wonderful playground right next-door. I love the zipline!
Take a morning run at the Erasmus park nearby, or explore the city using the included bikes.
INCLUDES 5 BIKES. A 5-minute ride to the Jordaan, any place in Amsterdam can be reached within 30 minutes.
11 minutes by tram from Central Station; 15-minute tram ride away from Dam square.
Also includes transporter bike for families with small children.
If my schedule permits, I can pick you up from Central Station in my covered boat. That's arriving in style!
I'll send a user manual upon booking. This contains wifi password, key code and more detailed info.
Besides the two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and lounge, there is a nice private deck right by the water. Sit in the sun, or even take a swim in the canal!
There is also a shady garden. That's where I park my bikes.
Interaction with Guests
I may be out of town, especially in the winter. However, from April till October I'm a skipper in the Amsterdam canals. I may be able to pick you up from the train station in one of my electric ships!
There are two house keys on the board in the kitchen.
There are five bikes available, each with combination-lock.
Please lock them at all times, even when parked in the garden. There is no deposit, but there is a 85 Euro replacement fee if you lose a bike.
This is a smoke- and pet-friendly houseboat apartment. All rooms have windows that can be opened for ventilation.
As a courtesy to our next guests, please open a window when you smoke. Please don't use 'air freshener'.
There is an upstairs neighbor; she has her own entrance. She will be able to answer any practical questions.
Super Host ! Awesome Houseboat ! And THE nicest thing you can do, go around the Channels of Amsterdam with the Electric Boat which is possible to take by your own (At fair extra charge). I will for sure book again when being in the Area again.
Marc is a consummate host. Our communication was very good leading up to the date of arrival. Marc picked us up right next to where my parents Danube river cruise was docked. He then took us on a private canal tour, arriving at the house boat about 45 minutes later. The boat wasnt yet ready for our arrival (it was before noon when we arrived and check in is after 3) but we were able to store our bags there and took Marcs advise for a very nice lunch in town. The two bedrooms were more than adequate for us and the fact that we shared a bathroom in the middle of the boat was not an issue. The place is well-situated, we took the tram everyday to Dam (the center of town) in about 15 minutes. The area around the houseboat is very quiet and relaxing. All in all, an excellent stay in an awesome city! Thanks Marc and thanks Amsterdam!
Marc was in good contact with us before the trip. The houseboat is just off the road beside a bridge, and was a magical little place to call our own for a few days. There was a full kitchen and two bedrooms, plus a full bath and laundry. The outdoor deck was lovely to spend time outside. Great place!
Marc was a wonderful host and houseboat is a special experience in a fantastic city. Great communication prior to arrival and just the right engagement with us while we were there, including a warm welcome and courtesy ride on his boat into central Amsterdam.
We had a wonderful time on Marc's houseboat. He was very kind and welcoming. We used his small boat for a little ride around the canals. It was quite a little adventure for our family! I highly recommend this host and his houseboat.
Marc was very helpful and welcoming, he was able to pick me and my friend up from the train station by boat. The location of the Houseboat is brilliant, and the spacious floor plan and decking is just a pleasure to enjoy.
Using the bikes to get around is brilliant and the public transport is very easy to understand.
Marc is very easy to get along with and is more than happy to help with any questions. Would definitely be happy to stay again.
Marc understands the importance of being a great host! He picked us up at the train station and gave us a tour of the canals in his boat! After some fairly hectic days of travel in Italy and France, this was the best part of our trip! Marc was very accomodating - I asked him about craft beers in Amsterdam and he said "there is a place right here!" He pulled over this boat and took me into the craft brewery and offered to buy my two beers! Now that is some great service! His place is very nice as well. The master bedroom is very spacious and the bed accomodated my wife and I very well. My two teenage daughters stayed the other bed - it was a little small for them but they didn't seem to mind. The one thing, that I think others have mentioned, is that the bathroom is between the kitchen and the second bedroom so you have to "aware" when people are in the bathroom. A very slight inconvenience but nothing that had a negative impact on our stay there. Marc has a floating deck outside and it's a great place to hang out and watch the local waterfowl (it rained one night and we had a great, relaxing view of the rain on the water!). Also, there are some very nice places nearby to eat. The other great thing is the availability of bikes. After traveling around France on the subway and buses, the bikes were a most-welcome amenity! We used them everyday we were there and they helped make our stay even more enjoyable.

About the Host, Marc
My background is in music technology. I studied at the University of Utrecht and MIT.
During the summer I tour the canals of Amsterdam in my electric ship,
In winter I'm a computer programmer in Valencia, Spain.
I occasionally perform with my electronic instruments. My music style ranges from free-style electro to techno house.
I'm very proud of my city. Amsterdam is perhaps the most special city in the world: Relaxed, scenic and just the right size. Besides the obvious tourist attractions, there is the wonderful architecture and over 40 museums.
I know you'll have a wonderful time in the Netherlands!
