The Space

Simple top-floor apartment, with living room, kitchen, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. 4th floor walk-up, very bright.
Both bedrooms have typical attic-style sloping ceilings, with skylight windows.
One bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, table and shelf.
The other bedroom has a single bed, wardrobe, desk, table and shelf.
The living room has a sofa that seats three (suitable also for sleeping), coffee table, dining table, and TV.
There is also an additional mattress available for a fifth person.
The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave oven and basic cooking utensils.

Great neighborhood, located between the popular districts of Malasaña, Opera and Arguelles, and a stone's throw from Gran Via and the Royal Palace. Charming area in the heart of Madrid, partly residential, but also has a lot of local flavor, with small shops, markets, restaurants, cafés and bars.
Excellent public transport connections. Very close to three metro stops: Plaza De España (lines 3 and 10), Noviciado (line 2) and San Bernardo (line 4). Also close to Tribunal (line 1)
The apartment is perfect for people who aren't looking for anything special and want to save money. It is, however, equipped with all the essentials, and habitable and comfortable in a simple way.
Highly recommended for groups of friends who want to have privacy or be in a central location without paying much.
Price negotiable for stays of over 2 months.

  • This apartment was exactly what we needed, and was more than we expected. The photos are exactly accurate. It's a very tidy, accommodating space with a modern kitchen and bathroom. The bedrooms are a good size with openable skylights. Private WiFi via a dsl connection. Spotlessly clean. Rafael is super helpful and friendly, flexible in helping us settle in and then discreetly gone for the rest of our stay, while always available via text. He does speak English, and is good-humored with those attempting, poorly, to speak Spanish.

Next, the location. Pretty much everything is walking distance in central Madrid, but this apartment is perfectly located between the Palace district and the Malasaña neighborhood and just north of the Puerta del Sol. Down the west side of the hill is the Plaza de España metro stop, down the east side, the Noviciado stop. There's a good-sized Carrefour grocery story around the corner and down a block. Tons of little neighborhood joints, like La Pomarada, but also chains like the ubiquitous (but great for the cheap traveller) Café y Té on the Calle de la Princessa, on which you will also find Starbucks (but why?).

The main consideration with the apartment is that it's a fifth-floor walkup. There's a tightly coiled 19th century staircase which is charming and safe, but it's a whole lot of steps. I'm a fit 50 with my 14-year-old son, so we saw it as good exercise, but it's work. Be prepared. Yet the whole city of Madrid is pretty much like that.

I couldn't have been happier with the decision to book this place. We were there for a full week. It was great.

About
I'm a friendly, sociable person who is easy to deal with. I love meeting people from different countries, and helping visitors in whatever way I can to have a great time in Madrid. I've travelled around Europe, America and Asia, and speak Spanish, English (not perfect), Italian and some French. I shared my apartment for many years with Spanish and foreign roommates, short and long term. I now rent the whole apartment, but I don't mind sharing some times. I love my city and I'm an expert on Madrid, its neighborhoods, buildings, history ..... and of course great places to shop, eat and go out and have fun.
