Beautiful new house on a quaint rain forest road. Just a five min. walk to Cocles beach, supermarket, restaurants, bus stop, and shopping. Cocles is a tiny town between Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva. Both of those towns are just a 15 min. bike ride away.
The house has two bedrooms, an open concept kitchen and living room, and a large porch with dining table and lounge area . House is made from wood we cut from the property. The bathroom is tiled, with custom made mosaic tub. Detailed and unique accents throughout the house.
Monkeys, toucans, parrots, sloths, and other creatures often play in the yard. Butterflies love our front garden and are lovely to watch while sitting on the porch.
There is a driveway that fits one vehicle.
We have wireless internet. A cell phone is available with a security deposit.
The area is safe, but house includes a security box just in case.
House is fully equipped with new appliances, hot water in the shower, and fans in the bedrooms.
Waterfalls, beaches, zip lining, hiking trails, kayaking, and animal rescue centers (where you can play with monkeys and sloths) are all available within a 20 minute drive of the house. Some of these attractions are only a five minute walk away!
Also, please be aware that our listing is for a house, not a hotel. The house locks up completely, but we did design to be open-concept because we like to be integrated with the rain forest. Sometimes, ants come marching through, geckoes like to chatter away with you while you're cooking in the kitchen, and hummingbirds sometimes try to join you at the table on the porch. We've recently learned that some people are afraid of these things, so we just want to make sure that you are rain forest friendly before you book.
Interaction with Guests
We have a property manager who will help you get settled in and who is available if any issues arise.
There is a bus stop at the end of our road for the local buses, which come by several times a day. There are bike rental shops close by, and taxis from our house into Puerto Viejo only cost $6. You can also walk- there are some lovely trails that go along the beach.
Parking for one vehicle is available at the house.
Please make yourself feel at home in our house! We just ask that there is no smoking in the house.
Wilson and Jasmine have a great place located close to everything you need on the coast. Lots of wildlife on the property, bring a flashlight to explore the yard in the dark too! Thomas the manager is very close by and extremely helpful - he's well travelled and knows the area really well.
The photos are a bit outdated, and it's understandably been well lived in since they were taken - so just imagine it without the fresh paint, plants, amenities and extra appliances (there's still a stove, fridge, coffee maker and blender though). Having wifi was great too!
As other guests have stated the gravel road to the house is a bit tough especially if you were arriving on foot with luggage etc, but otherwise just be sure to give yourself enough time (and daylight) for the short walk. We rented a small 4x4 which was really great for exploring. I was too chicken to ride a bike on the busy main road, but it looked like a great way to get around.
We were close to everything, and the area makes it really easy to participate in anything you want - the Jaguar Rescue Center, Ziplining, guided hikes etc. We missed out on the Caribeans tour but grabbed some yummy bean-to-bar chocolate before leaving. And the local restaurants were always delicious.
Cocles felt pretty safe for the most part but we had a couple of very scary moments in Puerto Viejo so I would encourage anyone to keep aware of your surroundings at all times, lest you get caught up in unnerving police incidents like we did (twice!). Our teenage daughter was hassled a lot (clapping, cat-calling) which was annoying. Apparently her red hair was a thing, so we just stayed alert and kept her close. I was always glad to have a cozy house to go home to after our outings
So if you're looking for a great home base while you explore some of the most beautiful coastline and forests we've ever seen (and we're from BC so that's saying a lot ;) this house is a great spot!
We had a wonderful month long stay at the Custom Jungle House. As stated in other reviews Thomas, the property manager, was very responsive to any questions we had. The location worked well for us and is a great value for the money.
Lovely jungle retreat. Close by bike to town but in a different world surrounded by trees and wildlife. We really enjoyed and would recommend
this to any couple or group as a base.
We stayed at Wilson and Jasmine's Jungle house for 2 weeks and had a great time. The home is just as described - a wonderful retreat with plenty of wildlife viewing right from the deck. Thomas was our local contact and he gave us plenty of information about the area and was available when we had any questions. We were walking/biking distance from town and the beach. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
The jungle house was beautiful and serene. This was probably the most relaxing part of our trip! It's close enough to Puerto Viejo that you could go for the day or a night cap (if you have a car or bike rental). Really a great place to stay. We enjoyed it very much!
This wasn't our first time at "Casa Musica". The house is Ina convenient Cocles location, up in the jungle a bit but still close to Playa Cocles. Short taxi ride into PV for some awesome dining. Thomas (property manager) was as friendly and helpful as ever. We were fortunate to find Christmas week open!
We had a wonderful stay in Wilson and Jasmines beautiful jungle house. The house is beautifully designed with an open plan feel and a nice big verandah/balcony for hanging out and relaxing. The house is made of beautiful local timber and is well equipped for an extended stay.
Jasmine provided some great tips on things to do in the local area, which was really helpful.
The house is in a great location in Cocles, 500 m up a gravel road (but feels more like a kilometre when walking because it's a bit rough). There is a supermarket a short walk down the road and a good cafe and beachside bar only a 5-10 min walk from the house. It is a nice 45 min walk into Puerto Viejo along the waterside jungle trail and only 3000 colonnes ($6) by taxi. We felt very safe in the house and in the local area in general, people are all very friendly.
Thomas, the property manager, is a really nice guy, very helpful and always quick to help with any of our problems or questions.
We stayed for 2 weeks whilst I volunteered at the Jaguar Rescue Centre, which is only a 15 min walk away and well worth a visit.
We loved waking to the, often noisy, sounds of the jungle (howler monkeys, birds and locals on their way to work) and we saw lots of wildlife from the balcony of the house, including a two toed sloth and Agoudi in the garden of the house.
We highly recommend this lovely relaxing home and would definitely stay here again.
Thanks again, Jasmine, Wilson and Thomas.
Jasmine and Wilson met on Jasmine's first day in San Francisco. As fate would have it, they were both traveling solo at the same time to Costa Rica. Traveling together for 6 weeks turned into quite the romance. They are now married and live part time in Canada, California, and Costa Rica.
Jasmine is a belly dance performer and instructor. She also writes for several publications and has published two short stories in fiction anthologies.
Wilson is a singer/song writer/guitarist. He went to Iraq and Afghanistan to play for the troops with his former band The Willful Sinners. His current band is the DTease.
