You will be surprised at the spacious view when entering the bright house.
From the tiled entrace area which has a bank of windows, you enter the living room with cathedral ceilings, skylights and a large mullion window. The furnishings are colorful, modern and comfortable. Among the many amenities there is a land phone, a flat screen TV’s, Bluetooth for your tunes and WiFi for the house. The Wood burning stove and large stone fireplace is where the painter George Alt had a bright red stove, he once lived in the house and you can see his painting of it in our photographs. The floors are pine throughout the house. The living room and the kitchen-dining area are open separated only by two wide pine steps. From the kitchen and it’s floor to ceiling windows you can see the surrounding deck, pool, spa and outdoors.

The Kitchen is painted in light yellow equipped with stove, toaster oven, microwave, Bella coffee maker, French press, blender, pots and pans, knives, cutlery and all the things you need to cook, eat, drink and be merry. If you want to hang out while someone is cooking you can (email hidden) surrounding the kitchen. The large country antique tavern table in the center of the room was retrieved from a Soho restaurant. The kitchen’s sliding glass door provide easy access to the two tier wrap around deck where it’s super easy to barbeque or eat outside.
.
The welcoming large cheerful master bedroom has a king bed. There is a small couch to get warm on, a flat screen TV, air conditioning, comfortable wingback chair for reading or relaxing and in the summer the French doors open to the outside pool.

The second bedroom is entered from the tiled entrance. Away from the rest of the house, this room is cozy with a queen bed, flat screened TV, windows, large closet, air conditioning and interesting art work.

Off the living room to the right is a small sitting room with a writing table and a slay bed couch that can double as a single bed if there is an extra guest.

The bathroom has a really large claw foot tub, a separate shower with all the extras, towels, and hairdryer. If you need, there’s a washer and dryer in the heating room.

Out side from the sunny cedar deck you can see the scope of the completely fenced in private one acre. The top deck has lots of chairs, small side tables and is where the spa is located. The Jacuzzi is open from April until December. Using the spa is great at any time, but especially wonderful in the evening with a bottle of wine looking up at the night sky. The lower tier deck has a large patio table with an umbrella, chairs and lights for night use.

From the deck you look down on the pool, and with only a few steps you are there. The pools cedar decking is surrounded by forsythia and lilacs bushes which provides privacy. There, you can barbeque, snack, or sunbath on lounge chairs. The pool size is 40 x 20 feet, 4 to 9 feet deep and is heated to a comfortable 70 degrees. The pool light welcomes night swimming and is beautiful to just look at from the deck or inside the Byrdcliffe House. It’s open May 15th until Oct.1st...

  • We had an absolutely wonderfully relaxing time at Byrdcliffe House. The house is well equipped with everything that was needed to stay in, swim or enjoy the hot tub. It is also very close to great restaurants, the farmer's market and all other shopping. We will most certainly be back to this idyllic place!

  • Michael's home was perfect for our group of three and could have easily accommodated 5. It was very stylishly designed and the pool and hot tub outside proved to be lovely amenities. Michael was also kind enough to stop by and answer any questions we had. The fireplace was absolutely charming. We will return soon!

  • The Byrrdcliffe House is a charming property very close to Woodstock. The main bedroom and the house in general are very spacious, the beds are comfortable, the house is clean with great light. The kitchen is adequately stocked with crockery and other basics. Michael was very friendly and responsive. We spent a Presidents Day weekend in snowy conditions, and were warm and comfortable, and loved the fireplaces.

  • My hip daughter found this place which allowed dogs, a big perk for us. The moment we arrived we felt at home and at peace. Lovely setting on a fenced in acre with a pool big enough to swim laps in, workable kitchen, hot tub, right near town and blessedly quiet. Michael couldn't have been nicer. The hot tub was not ready for use but he promptly fixed it and felt so bad he told us to have a meal on him at a spot in town. All in all, a great spot to which we would love to return.

  • The house is spacious and perfectly located close enough to town for a nice dinner, but still far enough away that you get a great sense of the surrounding nature. The pool is really nice!

Michael is a thoughtful host and was responsive to my questions and concerns.

I think the previous review from John was unduly harsh. It's true the house isn't totally up to speed--it's an older house. And it's not the most spotless house I've ever encountered. One warning, this is not the house for you if you're interested in cooking...the kitchen needs an update.

But it's a charming spot where my family and I were able to relax and unwind.

  • Undesirable.
I paid over 500. a night, the place smelled and had a coat of dirt all over the collection of yard sale furniture and supplies. The description is not false; close to town, large pool, large space, porch, small bbq grill... what you cannot find in this description are the following descriptions; the smell upon entry, the itch when you sit on the furniture, the smell when your trying to sleep, nor the splinters you will find in your foot from the wrap-around deck.
Michael is nice enough, he came over to heat up the "SPA" an outdated hot tub that you may not feel good about getting into. I reached out to Michael because I was unable to open his document that included directions, this was Friday around 2 - He called me Saturday after 2 to follow up.
The place is large, the surroundings are beautiful and the house could be great - I doubt .1 penny of my 500+ a night will go towards the missing flatware or a new coffee pot - forget about the amount of maintenance the place needs. If you like camping, this place is fine. If you like "rustic" and I use this term loosely, it may work for you. Though, if you like sitting in a clean comfortable sofa, appreciate a good nights rest, or like the idea of fresh air inside... I would keep looking.
I have stayed at places for 100 a night that had better standards.

  • A few of my friends and I needed an escape from NYC for the MDW holiday. We came across Michael's house and it could not have been more perfect. The pool is enormous, heated to a perfect 75 degrees, and the hot-tub is more than inviting. We utilized the BBQ, played our favorite music on the terrific bluetooth stereo that came with the house and even watched a movie on one of the many flat screen TVs. Michael is very easy to communicate with and wants to be sure you are as comfortable as possible. He even left us a present! I have been to shares in the Hamptons many times and for traveling half the time, this certainly does the trick!!
We are hoping to book the house again one weekend this summer. Thanks again, Michael!

  • This house is perfectly located within the Catskills. Right near the town of Woodstock, so close to cute shops and restaurants, but set back in the woods so you can really enjoy the Catskills environment -- truly the best of both worlds. The house itself was perfect for me and my family. We used the wood burning fireplaces (two!) every night and enjoyed the large, open kitchen/dining/living area. The beds were also super comfortable.

Michael is a fantastic host. We accidentally left behind some clothes and jackets in one of the closets. I sent Michael a note about it and he had it shipped to us within days and didn't charge us anything! Truly an above and beyond host!

I highly recommend anyone looking to stay in the Catskills to consider the Byrdcliffe House.
