About this listing
Homemade breakfast in a unique atmosphere, your own professional guide & a spectacular view to northern light, sea and mountains!
Welcome to our beautiful and historical house in the arctic, with a unique atmosphere and a fantastic view !
This is a truly unique space and is ideally suited to singles or couples with an adventurous and romantic spirit . . .This is a fairly relaxed space with wooden floors and very high ceilings.
I am happy for guests who make themselves at home.
Our guests love the splendid home-made breakfast, served in the family dining room, or on the lovely terrace in the summer.
This is the best place to live in Tromsø. We are suspended high above the city with a lovely view. Town center is completely walk able and on the weekends it’s remarkably quiet here for such a central location.
The house is close to restaurants, museums, mountains and sea. Bus routes close by.
We offer 2 bedrooms, 4 comfortable sleeps, with white linens and your own private bathroom. Look up the other listing at Airbnb!
Tromsø has an amazing northern light from October to the end of March, and wonderful midnight sun from June to August. Our garden is a great spot for the northern light.
A professional tour guide, living in the house, can take you on northern light tours, mountain hiking and fishing.
I usually try to meet and greet my guests, but sometimes I am out of the city. Then I have to arrange with a friend to welcome you.
It is my home however and I would kindly ask my guests to respect this and treat it well if I am not there. Thank you!

A beautiful house in the Arctic is a comfortable large traditional Norwegian home set on a hillside in the attractive town of Tromso. It commands wonderful views of the cathedral, the Tromso bridge, Tromsdalstinden and one can spend many hours observing the hustle and bustle of the daily harbor activities and the glorious midnight sun. All the attractions of the town, the shops, museums and restaurants are a mere 10 minutes walk into town.
All my questions were answered efficiently and promptly by Ane- Marie and although I did not meet her on the two occasions that I stayed there I was greeted warmly by a neighbor and given very good advice about the home and the options that one has available as a visitor to Tromso.
I enjoyed my stay very much in this beautiful area of Norway.
Not fully met expectations
I had not read that breakfast will cost extra money.
So I asked Ane Marie before we went to travel.
I didn`t get an answer.
After arrival Ane Marie confirmed to us that there is breakfast.
It took three days before we were informed that breakfast costs 100, - NOK, as can be read on her airbnb page.
True, this is to read in the middle of nowhere and I had missed it, so that`s why I asked before traveling.
We were disappointed that we didn`t get the information before.
For us this had a very special "taste".
The room is about 11-12 sq and is really small.
The bathroom was not only for us alone, as it is to read on her airbnb site. We had to share it with another guest what was not charming.
The house is beautiful and the beds are excellent.
Ane Marie was a very friendly and helpful host at any time. About her, we have also got informations about where and when exactly we can see the northern lights.
Thanks to her, it worked wonderfully and we had a lovely time with a disappointing end because we felt a little bit cheated.
We gave three stars because. in our opinion, the price is too high.
We had a wonderful stay in Tromsø and the house of Ane Marie and Tor was warm and cozy. They are a lovely couple that go out of their way to provide you with tips on daytrip destinations, restaurants, etc. Every night when we came back to the house there where candles burning everywhere so even without the northern lights it looked magical. You really have to try the breakfast. It's a great start of your day and the home made bread is delicious. There is a professional guide (Andrei) living in an apartment in the souterrain of the house who gives very personal tours around the Fjords or hunting the Lights. The house is very close to the city centre and you can basically walk everywhere. We can highly recommend Ane Marie's and Tors house to everyone!
We were made to feel very welcome by Ane Marie. She was also attentive to our needs during the stay. She gave us some good suggestions about what to do in Tromso and was especially helpful in arranging ski hire.
The house itself was beautiful and comfortable, and also gave easy access to the city centre and skiing routes.
We booked with Ane-Marie after seeing the photos and reading her description of the experience we would have if we stayed with her which proved to be just so. She greeted us warmly and made us feel at home immediately. We were given the key to the front door which is kept locked and could come and go as we pleased. The house was built in the 19th century and is absolutely beautiful. We had the twin bedroom on the first floor - the beds are very comfortable and the pillows not too high. There is a small kettle for making tea and coffee which we did not expect and we filled this from the tap in the kitchen. We had use of the bathroom on the ground floor which has underfloor heating. Before arrival Ane-Marie sent us a list of possible things to do and places to visit and during our stay she made further recommendations. We met up daily and chatted with her and also her husband. They were extremely hospitable. Ane- Marie is the perfect host and ambassador for Norway and her home is a perfect Norwegian idyll.
And Marie and her family were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived until the day we left. We had the pleasure of meeting everyone in her family and they were all absolutely delightful people, always accommodating, friendly and helpful! The house was clean, warm, and comfortable. We stayed at the quaint attic room which had kept all the original fittings, part of the charming characteristic of the century old Scandinavian house. Adding to the romanticism, the view from the room of the city and landscape was breathtaking. We even saw the Northern Lights from our bedroom 2 out of 4 nights! The house and its beautiful white, picket fence on top of the hill, is conveniently only a 5 minutes walk to the town centre. Their recommendations for places to eat were good. We would also recommend their in-house breakfast which consisted of healthy good quality homemade bread, jam, and juices; all good in preparing you for a busy day of travel. Table was always tastefully laid out with nice china and candles, with music in the background for added ambience. We felt like visiting friends rather than passing tourists. If you are looking for a more personal, warm, homely type of luxury bnb experience, then this is a recommended choice of stay.
