Great location and super helpful hosts. We were very grateful for the helpful tip to take the train to Rome instead of driving, and were escorted to the train station by our lovely hostess. We were also able to take the back gate and walk up to the city of Orvieto, which was a great experience all by itself. The place itself was spacious and lovely, great stay overall!
Orvieto & Podere Sette Piaggi were a welcome respite between Venice & Rome. Alberto's wonderful yard/farm is delightful- We certainly enjoyed being there. Jack was happy for the opportunity to help harvest olives. The invigorating, scenic walk up to Orvieto from the b&b was just right for us. Our accomodations were very comfortable, & Alberto & Marie Louise were generously helpful with transportation- as we travelled by train. We highly recommend Podere Sette Piaggi!
Alberto was an excellent host, and clearly very proud of his home and gardens, justifiably so. The room and grounds were clean and well maintained, the breakfast was well-done. Some evenings Alberto and staff offer a Umbrian-style meal, and you should take advantage of that if it fits your schedule. We had an issue with getting cash from an ATM, and Alberto was very patient about that, and we resolved it and settled up before leaving but appreciated his understanding. Good location if you have a rental car, Orvieto is minutes away and many other Umbrian and Tuscan sites are within reasonable driving distance.
I had a wonderful stay at Alberto's B&B in Orvieto. The room was perfect- large and beautifully decorated with a private bathroom. The B&B is located below the cliffs of Orvieto, which can be reached by a very steep, but beautiful, walk up an almost unused road, taking about 15-20 minutes.
The grounds of the of the B&B are lovely, and although I didn't use the swimming pool, if the weather had been warmer I certainly would have taken a dip.
Alberto was very helpful, picking me up at the train station, and returning me there at the end of my stay. He also gave me a ride up to Orvieto one morning when he had business in town. Due to being very tired, I unfortunately slept through a dinner at the B&B that Alberto arranges now and then.
There was a simple breakfast each morning with excellent homemade jam. Yummy!
Thanks again, Alberto
The bed and breakfast was absolutely gorgeous and a perfect place to stay. However, when we arrived to the train station (our train was 15 minutes later) we did not see Alberto waiting for us. We waited for about 45 minutes and finally asked the information center in the train station for directions to the b&b using the address provided. Although I asked for walking directions, Alberto did not give them to me before our departure as he said he would pick us up from the train station. We walked around looking for wifi and trying to find the b&b to no luck. We found some wifi at a different hotel, e-mailed Alberto and the front desk secretary was nice enough to call Alberto for us since we did not have a phone while traveling. Alberto came and picked us up and brought us to the b&b. He explained that he was 5 minutes late to picking us up (which means he didn't wait long since our train was 15 minutes late). We also think he was waiting in the back of the train station instead of in the front by the parking lot (which is where we were looking for him). It would have been helpful for him to tell us to go to the back and also to provide walking directions or taxi driving directions just in case a situation like this happened.
However, the bed and breakfast was very pretty. The room was great, bed was very comfortable, the private bathroom/shower was much needed. Alberto took us on a tour of his farm/garden and had us sample some homegrown tomatoes, figs, apples, raspberries, strawberries, etc. The pool was very nice and Orvieto itself was about a 20 minute walk uphill from the B&B, pretty convenient.
This place was wonderful! We've already shared it with friends who are heading to Italy. Alberto and his family were so kind. Their charming bed and breakfast is a small hike up to the small town of Orvieto. Which is adorable. This place was very relaxing, great pool, and DELICIOUS breakfast. Can't rate this place highly enough. We would love to go back and stay for longer.
From the very get go Alberto was an amazing host. He was waiting on the platform at the train station when we got in. Gracious, accommodating, and with a sparkling, genuine smile Alberto drove us to his magical, peaceful retreat. The property, Podere Sette Piaggi, is a delicate work of bounty, the historical accommodations nestled among a vibrant menagerie of fruits and vegetables, with a pristine pool splayed out beneath the jutting summit of the ancient town of Orvieto. There are sweet cats to befriend and a great feeling of serenity and well being over the whole place. The rooms themselves are clean and welcoming, with hardwood floors and comfortable beds, homey and countryside-esque but fitted with all the modern comforts you could desire: recently redone, sleek bathrooms, air-conditioning, flat screen T.V.s, and wi-fi. If you can tear yourself away from the sweet retreat, old Orvieto is a delightful 20 minute walk away, full of breathtaking views and the delicious smells of the Umbrian countryside. Once there the town of Orvieto is almost surreal in its idyllic perfection, rosey children biking down ancient, narrow streets, adults taking in gelato and local wine in the cobblestones plazas and in the center of it all the breathtaking Duomo, home to Renaissance painter Luca Signorelli’s masterpiece frescos. As lovely as the town is, make it home in time to do dinner with Alberto and his bounty of produce, and you might find like I did, the best meal I had in Italy. I recommend his B and B with the highest regards and look forward to returning there again someday.
we were looking for a quite and beautiful place, and found it!!! Alberto has a very quite and lovely house! We had a sweet breakfast with vegetables from the garden and great coffee! We highly recommend the beautiful place, and looking forward to seeing Alberto again.
This place is PERFECT!
Alberto and his family are truly wonderful hosts. From the moment we arrived we had a fantastic welcome: Alberto showed us around his grounds, encouraging us to pick and try all the fruit and veg - strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes - he is growing. Each morning we woke up and went straight to the cherry tree to pick as much fruit as we could eat!
Breakfasts on the patio were lovely: homemade/homegrown fruit jams, homemade cake, good strong coffee. We enjoyed a couple of lunches there too - salad leaves and zucchini fresh from the garden.
The room was big, super-clean and very cool in the heat of day. The B&B itself is just ouside the main town, a 10-15 minute walk down the hill. Sitting by the pool is lush, with grass and trees all around and a view straight up to the ancient town walls of Orvieto. At night you can sit in the dark and see fireflies everywhere. Magical!
Alberto and his wife were also very helpful with information about local sights and places of interest, lending us maps and whatever else we needed.
We really couldn't have asked for anything more - amazing value, amazing place! We're already thinking about when we can go back... :-)
We loved our stay with Alberto and his wife at the Podere Sette Piagge. This is an excellent B & B with very clean, modern rooms with attention to fine details (like fresh cut roses to welcome you.) The location is perfect, within walking distance to old town Orvieto. It is a heart pumping 20 minute climb up to the walled city gates and an easy stroll back after a day of exploring the town. There is a beautiful pool area to relax and look out over the Umbrian valley below. We ate breakfast on a comfortable terrace that also overlooks the countryside as well. Alberto and his wife Marie elenae were great hosts, providing complmentary shuttle to and from the train station and attending to our needs. We even picked ripe cherries from their trees which was especial treat. We highly recommend this B & B to anyone who wants a relaxing stay in a quiet locale while exploring the Orvieto area.
