Street safe for walking. Close to many sights of Rio de Janeiro, as the Sugar Loaf, Flamengo Beach, Marina da Gloria, the Republic Museum, Lapa and the central region. Lapa is one of the most hectic and bohemian night spots with the best of Rio de Janeiro's restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

On the same street you will find markets, pharmacies, restaurants, hospitals, bars and cafes.
Perfect place for backpackers who like to explore the city, nature and all the happiness around, in a very cool and safe location.

Interaction with Guests
I live in the house, I have my own private room, but the house is super large, 3 floors, then privacy won't lack.
It is located on top of the Santa Teresa hill, by the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets which are a favourite spot for artists and tourists.
The neighborhood originated around the Santa Teresa Convent, built in the 1750s on the Desterro hill. At the end of the 19th and early 20th century it was an upper class borough, as testified by its magnificent mansions, many of which are still standing.
Santa Teresa ceased being an upper-class neighbourhood long ago, but it has been revived as an artistic hotspot. It is home to several artists and art studios and galleries. The offer of restaurants and bars is also varied.
One of Santa Teresa's most illustrious inhabitants was Raimundo Otoni Castro Maya, an art collector who lived in his Chácara do Céu mansion in the neighborhood. The mansion was turned into a museum (Museu da Chácara do Céu) and its exhibits include works by Matisse, Jean Metzinger, Eliseu Visconti, Di Cavalcanti, and Candido Portinari. It's located close to the cultural center Parque das Ruínas. In 2006, some paintings were stolen, and haven't been recovered yet.
Another museum is the Museu do Bonde, which tells the history of the famous Santa Teresa Tram since its historic origins. A ride on the tram is a popular attraction among tourists. It sports crossing the old Carioca Aqueduct, going through picturesque streets of the Santa Teresa neighbourhood and wonderful views of the city downhill.
There are 2 way to get here:
Via Shuttle Bus, 15BRL. Drop off at Gloria Metro Station, and then walk up the Rua Santo Amaro. But I dont recommend it in case you have heavy luggages,my street is very steep.
Via Cab, 55BRL. At the Airport, search for "Aero Coop Taxi" desk, tell them you are going to Rua Santo Amaro.
Please, dont go outside before paying at their desk, otherwise the drives can rip off (website hidden).: Dont change your money at the airport, its super expansive overthere, plus comissions. If its possible, just change a little bit for taxi or whatever. Close to my place there is a better place to change. Best rate,no comissions,ok? And we don't have garage but you can park the car in front of the house, the door man takes care of your car in case you need.
Respect the house, and the other guests.
Take care of your stuffs, and rubbish, but above all, enjoy it!!!
Andre is a wonderful host, very friendly, helpful and comprehensive. He always does his best to make you feel comfortable. The house is big and very peaceful, and the neighborhood is really safe. I highly recommend this place for a stay in Rio ! Thank you Andre :-)
The reservation was canceled 9 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
It was realy my pleasure to stay in his home. He gave me many valuable advices what so see, what to do in Rio. My recomandations to all
We spent 3 wonderful days in Andre's house during our stay in Rio, really close to Gloria station and to Santa Teresa. Andre is an amazing host, he gave us a warm welcome and made us discover the neighborhood during his free time. I did his possible to make us feel home, and it was a success !
The house has a colorfoul decoration and his very clean. I strongely recommand Andre's place for a stay in this great part of Rio !
Thanks a lot Andre :)
Andre is one of the best hosts. He was warm and welcoming into his home. He loves to show you new places and teach you about the city and culture. I only spent one night but he made you feel like family no matter how much time you spend.
Staying with Andre was great because...
... his house is amazingly colourful and definitely has its charme!
... getting into Rio is more than easy due to the perfect location - only a few walking minutes away from busses and metro.
... Andre always pointed out stuff to do, good restaurants, etc.
... there was always an answer to every question we had.
... of the international flair in his house due to international students living with him.
The only thing that disappointed us was that the promised breakfast only consisted of bread (without any spread or cheese), fruits and coffee/tea. We would have loved to have some more variety here as well as milk for our tea and coffee.
Anyhow, we do not regret having stayed with Andre and definitely want to recommend his charming house in Santa Tereza!
Thanks for the lovely review Judith. That really means a lot for me! :D
But I haven't promised any breakfast and I am pretty much sure about that
When you sent your booking request asking about breakfast I told you that I don't serve it, but you could eat the fruits, breads, coffee and everything I left for the entire house (just check our messages). I only buy stuffs that I use for myself, then I share with you guys, as you know you could use the kitchen as you could have wished, because in my house description there is no breakfast included, but even thou I buy stuffs for it. And Im sorry if my breakfast taste doesn't fit to yours, but there were cream cheese, ham, cheese, and eggs, plus papaya, mango, bananas, apples, pears, pineapple, strawberry coffee and milk. If you didnt wanna take any to eat because you thought you would confuse with other people's stuffs, you could simply have asked me...
You stayed 3 nights at home and you left late evening as we spoke before, and if you got disappointed you could have simply told me that, I was gonna do my best to help you... Sometimes bad things happen because of the lack of communication.
And Im so sad to hear you left my house a disappointed, after 90 positive reviews that's the very first time ever! ;.(
But Im very thankful for the review. Just, next time, even for your next guests, if there is something disappointing you, let them know. :D
I had great time in Rio and that is also because of this cool appartment and the even cooler host Andre, who is very sweet, warm, open-minded and helpful. Very nice location, close to the metro, shops and Flamengo beach. The atmosphere in the house and the other people I met there were unique. Thanks!
