About this listing
Our home is in a quiet mountain community, remote enough to give you plenty of peace and quiet, but close enough to the town of Rochester to provide easy access to a great selection of amenities, restaurants and a grocery store.
The perfect place to escape from the rat-race! Beautiful three bedroom house on 1.5 acres, backing up to National Forest. Available to rent by the room or the whole house (subject to a maximum party size of 8, with 2 using sofabed in living room). The two upstairs bedrooms have full-size beds and the downstairs bedroom has a queen-size sofa bed.
Located in a quiet and secluded mountain community, this is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax, but there is also great access to ski resorts (Sugarbush 45 mins, Killington 30 mins, Middlebury 20 mins), hiking, fishing, swimming etc. There's truly something to do in every season. Great place to check out the fall foliage from late September to October.
The community also features 2 tennis courts and a swimming pond and is a great place for leisurely walks, snow-shoeing etc.
Burlington, Montpelier and Rutland are within easy reach and the local town of Rochester has a great selection of restaurants, a lively bar and there's often live music and entertainment.
Guests have access to pretty much the whole house, with the exception of the sleeping loft, which we use for storage and ask guests not to use.
Great Hawk is a peaceful and secluded mountain community, conveniently located for access to the amenities in the town of Rochester. We were attracted to how quiet the community is, and there's also no light pollution, so guests always enjoy an undisturbed night sleep!
In the summer it's great to sit out on the deck and look up at the stars!
Other Things to Note
The roads in the community are dirt roads and are relatively steep in places. For visits in the winter, the roads can be snow covered and icy in places, so 4x4 and or proper winter tires are highly recommended. Guests without these can easily park at the bottom of the driveway, but that adds 50 yards for you to carry your belongings up to the house.
The driveway is plowed after every snowfall of 3 or more inches and sand is put down periodically, but we'd still recommend you have a vehicle capable of dealing with Vermont winters!
We want our guests to relax and enjoy themselves. This is our home, so we simply ask that you treat it as if it were your own home.
Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring pets, as we have some pet allergies, so have some pet-specific rules and will request an additional cleaning fee.
We do not allow cats and ask that dogs not be allowed on the furniture.
We provide firewood for guests to use and simply ask that you refill the wood trunk in the living room and the stack in the covered porch, to replace what you've used ready for the next guests.
We're an easy-going couple that loves to travel, entertain and experience new things.
We recently moved from Boston back to Auburn, NY, where my wife grew up. We also have a house in Rochester, Vermont and love to get up there when we can!
We like our guests to feel relaxed too, so we are easy-going and love socializing with our guests, but obviously respect their privacy if they prefer to keep themselves to themselves! We've made many new friends through Airbnb! We want our guests to feel they can go with the flow and there's always something great to do in any season, whether it's in VT or Auburn!
We also have a chilled-out 6 year old labradoodle (non-shedding!) who loves to meet new people and two young sons, James (born September 2012) and Archie (born January 2016) who will make sure they don't disturb your stay!
