About this listing
Our cosy house in Hove/Brighton is quiet, but with the fun and business of Brighton not far away. It fits one person and is located conveniently for getting into central Brighton. We are only 10 minutes walk from the beach. Enjoy the sunny garden.
Please Note: We will only look at bookings which are made with a minimum 48 hour advance and have full details on the profile (this means references and all the security checks) - thanks!
We have a cosy single bedroom which is close to Hove, Brighton, Portslade & Aldrington train stations (all of these stations are the same price when coming from somewhere else) – great to get around the local area from. Our house is in the Art Deco style and we’ve tried to reclaim as much of the original features of the house as we have discovered them. We offer fresh linen, towels, use of bathroom facilities, Kitchen facilities, washer/dryer facilities, tea/coffee making in your room, Wi-Fi and offer toast and jam in the morning.
10 mins walk from the beach. Excellent cycle paths along the seafront, we are happy to lend our bikes to you when you stay.
Excellent bus (49, 46, 2 & N7) transport into the heart of Brighton, bus stop is only 1 min walk from house.
Close to shops and restaurants. Paid street parking, but free parking is only a few streets away. We are close to Hove lagoon, where you can hire kayaks, sailing boats or do wind surfing.
Brighton/Hove has all sorts to do - Brighton Wheel, Pavillion, Shopping in the Laines, great Restaurants, museums (these have some brilliant cafes in them and the Hove museum is only 8 mins walk away from us).
Approximately, one hour from London on the train. Only half an hour from Gatwick airport.
We are avid travellers ourselves, so understand how useful it is to get 'local' information.
The room is bright and warm, with a nice view of the back garden, which is not over looked by other houses.
We have a lovely little garden with a water feature, which is nice to sit out in during the warmer months of the year. It is south facing, so has the sun for the whole day.
We'll do our best to make your stay a pleasant and comfortable one.
Access is to the whole house, except the main bedroom. You can use the kitchen. Living room and bathroom are shared.
Interaction with Guests
Most of the time we are home when the guest is there, but this just depends on how busy we are. We don't mind interacting with guests, but we leave guests to approach us for their needs and conversation, rather than the other way around.
We love the peace and quiet, but with the fun and business of Brighton being just down the road. Best of both Worlds!
I would suggest that guests take advantage of our close by free parking and walks on the Hove seafront.
We have a lot of buses which go by very close to our house which lead into the centre of Brighton. We have 3 train stations very close to us and parking for free is only one street away.
To get to us from Gatwick airport, which is the closest to us, just follow the driving instructions that we have listed for arriving from London.
Other Things to Note
We really only look at people with full profiles, who can give us two days notice and have their security checks in place. We only take one person in the room.
Please keep all noise down at night, especially when arriving at a time when others are already in bed.
Please keep the house neat, clean and tidy. When going out and no one in the house, please always bolt the front door and make sure all windows and doors in the house are locked and secured.
Please note, we do not include breakfast in the fee, but you have tea/coffee making facilities in your room. There are a lot of cafes or a grocery store close by to get breakfast from. Also, the room is for one person only, we only let to one at at time.
If you have any special requests, by all means ask and we will see if we can help out with it.
John & Debbie's room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable and they were friendly hosts. I would recommended it to anybody who wants to stay in Hove.
Feel free and very good atmosphere. John & Debbie are bright, pleasant and kindly, gave me a good suggestion. Furniture is very attractive and lovely. The room is cosy and outside is lively, the bathroom is clean. It was wonderful stay!
This was the first time ever I had stayed at an airbnb venue.
I was warmly welcomed by John & Debbie upon my arrival & shown around the house & given a set of keys.
I informed John & Debbie that on the 2 nights that I was staying with them that I would be arriving back at their house in the early of the morning and they appeared not to be fazed by this which was great.
The room I was sleeping in was exactly as described with a very comfortable single bed in it along with a kettle and tea/coffee sachets for my use, I was given the password for the wi-fi which was very useful as my phones service was non existent.
The bathroom was just a few feet away from the bedroom with an excellent in - bath shower.
Overall I was very impressed with the service provided by John & Debbie & hopefully I will book again with them again next year if not before.
John and Debbie were helpful people and there were no problems during my stay. The house was perfect for my needs; Aldrington train station is only 10-15 mins walk, so the centre was easily accessible.
Nice quiet location only a short bus ride from the centre, great hosts - recommended for anybody looking for a peaceful stay in Brighton.
My visit to Brighton was wonderful, and exactly what I was looking for in my airbnb experience. John and Debbie were great hosts, with a beautiful eclectic home. I would recommend it any day.
John & Debbie were lovely hosts and very flexible...which was great seeing as I didn't roll in until 6am (was quiet though). Only sorry I didn't have more time to get to know them better.
About the Host, John & Debbie
Both John and I are expats living in Brighton/Hove. We love it here and know what it's like to be abroad and there's nothing like local knowledge. John hails from New Zealand via Holland, so speaks Dutch and I hail from Vancouver, Canada and speak German and a little French.
John works as an environmental scientist and I am a performer, performing a lot in Brighton/Hove and all over the UK. This kind of background gives us an excellent idea of understanding traveling and what it's like when you want to know what to do in the local area that's fun and a good place to eat.
Both John and I have experience of hospitality, John has worked in Youth Hostels - running them and I have worked in restaurant management. We like to make sure anyone who comes to stay is well informed of what they may be interested in and how to find it easily and quickly. Plus the easiest ways to get around not only Brighton/Hove, but London (which we are only a short train ride to) or the local county of Sussex.
Walking, traveling and eating at good restaurants are some of the things John and I can't do without, as well as going to the local events in and around Brighton/Hove.
Thailand, Canada, New Zealand and Europe are favourite places to travel, plus we love murder mystery books, going to the movies, seeing live entertainment and eating out. John is a keen reviewer on Trip Advisor and I have been reviewed on Trip Advisor for my singing work at the Little Bay Restaurant in Brighton.

Both John and I are expats who have been living in Brighton/Hove. We have loved it there. John hails from New Zealand via Holland, so speaks Dutch and I hail from Vancouver, Canada and speak German and a little French. We are currently traveling the world for a year and our first 5 months are in North America, then a few months in Austral Asia and we end in Asia. Where we head back to the UK.
John works as an environmental scientist and I am a performer, performing a lot in Brighton/Hove and all over the UK & other parts of the world. This kind of background gives us an excellent idea of understanding traveling and staying at others homes. Also, having been air BnB hosts, we know what it's like to have guests in our home and have stayed in others homes - house sitting & as a guest. We, always, try to treat others as we would like to be treated.
