It was a great experience staying Alice apartment.
I hope that we can come back again soon.
Thank you, Alice
The location is fabulous with easy walking to so many attractions. The apartment is close to major bus lines so if you find you've walked further away than you expected, you can easily get a bus back. Lots of restaurants and great shopping close by. Alice was very accommodating and helpful in choosing restaurants and arranging for transportation. It is on the 3rd floor so if you have a problem with winding stairs that might be a problem. However, Alice carried the heaviest bag up herself
Me and 2 friends booked into Alice's Apartment for 1 night. When we landed @19.30 I phoned her and informed her that we were getting the train from the Airport to Paris and she said that she was going to the North of Paris and couldn't
meet us until 11pm at which point we had to book into a hotel at an extra cost of £200 as we had some light luggage with us. There was no apology from Alice and she was quite rude and never offered us a refund or any advice as to get the keys for our stay. We had to then on our short trip!! to Paris find a triple room in a hotel and delayed our enjoyment of the city. In my opinion if you agree to rent out your apartment you should be able to meet your guests at anytime of the day!! This is totally unacceptable. It ruined our trip to Paris!!
Alice was very warm, friendly, and extremely accommodating. The apartment itself was very clean and large — I was travelling with my parents and there was so much space. The location is excellent, as well. It is very close to the metro and walking distance from Notre Dame, Saint Michel, the Lourve, and the Pompidou center. It is around the corner from a small Monoprix (monop' daily). Alice gave us recommendations for a great bakery and restaurant nearby. She also showed us around the apartment and gave us some information about the neighbourhood. The apartment is also easy to find. Wifi was fast and worked well. I will definitely try to stay here next time I go to Paris. My mom and dad wanted to make sure I reviewed the apartment because they were so pleased with our stay. :)
Très très bien situé dans Paris, facile d'accès, l'appartement d'Alice est très propre, joli et confortable. Alice est disponible, agréable et très sympathique.
We read the description of this property and the reviews before we booked, but nothing really prepared us for what we found when we arrived. For the benefit of others, I will describe what this place is really like!
Before going on, these comments are about the apartment, not Alice, who was always courteous, helpful and obliging.
The fact is that when this place is described as "Alice's apartment", it does not mean that Alice is the owner, it means that she is the occupier! She lives here, and moves out (thankfully) when tenants move in. It means that the apartment is full of her "stuff". The wardrobes and cabinets are full of her clothes, the kitchen is full of her food, the refrigerator is full of her food, the bathroom is full of her soaps, etc
So there is no-where, except for chairs and table tops, to put your things, no-where to unpack, so everything still has to be done out of a suitcase.
The apartment is objectively clean, but you are very conscious that you are living in someone else's private space, and generally (for us) feeling like an intruder.
If this is acceptable to you, then OK. But if, like us, you are expecting a short-term holiday rental apartment (like others we have stayed in through our European trip), then you will be disconcerted and possibly disappointed.
Interestingly, I immediately contacted our next airbnb host and asked about his property. He not only reassured us, but said that he had once found himself in the same situation, i.e. expecting a holiday rental apartment but finding himself in a private dwelling. He said that he is now very careful to read the fine print and ask the relevant questions before he books anything on airbnb. Good advice for us all, I think!
If you do book this Paris apartment, be aware of a few other things. Security seems to be an issue - Alice insisted that we double lock the door when we left. There is of course no guest safe, so you have to carry your passport and valuables on your person, which is not ideal. And when we were there, there were some maintenance issues - the washing machine wasn't working and the toilet seat was broken.
Also, Alice could let us have only one set of keys. This would not be an issue for some, but for us it was an inconvenience as we like to be able to go our separate ways during the day. The one-key arrangement meant that we had to coordinate our activities to an extent that was irksome.
Having said all that, the location is excellent, the wifi is good, and I suppose it does give you the experience of living Parisian-style. And as mentioned, Alice is friendly and helpful. But if you are thinking of staying there, go knowing what to expect!
Appart génial , Alice très sympa bref allez y les yeux femés
All previous positive reviews were correct, and I am very glad that we selected to stay at Alice's lovely apartment, and have just returned from a fantastic 4 day trip to Paris.
To summarize, for the tourist not familiar with Paris, the location is excellent, short walks to sites such as Notre Dame, Louvre, etc. Chatalet Metro 2 minutes walk away.
With regards to the facilities in the apartment, everything was very comfortable, plenty of space, for 2 adults and 2 children, we did not need for anything. My 14 and 12 yr old boys loved their room plus the internet access. The Monop supermarket around the corner had anything you would need for a short stay , and boulangerie Julian has the most fantastic breads and pastries which we are already missing.
One other small item was that we had a late flight from Paris last night, but we had no worries with luggage. Alice suggested that we were able to pack everything, go for a last day of sightseeing and return Sunday evening to collect our bags before heading to the airport. A small point but it added to the feeling that we stayed with a host who cared about her guests.
Would I recommend this apartment - YES definitely, and if / when we return to Paris I will definitely be trying to ensure that we stay again at Alice's apartment.
