The Space

Downtown Historic Beaufort, 6 blocks from Bay St. Cozy Cabin ideal for a getaway in beautiful Historic Beaufort, South Carolina. Newly renovated back to it's original size (very small).

This Sea Island cabin was built by freed slaves just after the Civil War and is restored with an historical emphasis. It has a wood burning fireplace and air conditioning. This house is listed on the National Register of Historic places.

The house is very small and rustic--after all it was built by ex-slaves after the Civil War and is over 100 years old. It has a sleeping "nook" rather than a private bedroom. 5 night rental minimum. Conveniently located but not fancy. It has a very artsy and Caribbean feel. In the Northwest Quadrant, a traditional and colorful Gullah neighborhood with lots of kids.

Pets allowed, but please contact us about it in advance. Fenced yard. Walk to Bay Street Restaurants and Bars as well as Boundary Street. About 30 minutes from Hunting Island State Park (pristine beach).

  • We had a lovely time in this little home. It has exactly what we needed for our small family of three. Beaufort was beautiful and everyone was very friendly. We spent most of our time at the beach on Hunting Beach Island, but on our one rainy day we checked out the kazoo museum and the local movie theater. Great family vacation and very relaxing.

  • Britt was a great host. He was prompt in all his communications with us and gave us all the necessary information we needed. The cottage was awesome! It is rustic (painted wooden walls and such), but it was clean and well appointed. For two people it was perfect. The neighborhood was nice. The neighbors across the street were really friendly, but no other neighbors interacted with us. It is in downtown Beaufort, so we were able to walk to restaurants easily and go for some lovely runs through the Old Town.

  • The owner was very easy to work with to arrange the visit. The cottage is unique and charming and you feel very at home in this neighborhood in Beaufort.

Charming. Unique. Different. So fun to stay someplace unlike other rentals!

  • La Cimarrona was a delightful place in a beautiful town, and very conveniently situated. It was easy to find, Britt's directions were very accurate. And it is only a short walk to all the sights of Beaufort. Britt's description of the cabin and its facilities was very fair and we found the place charming, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • The town of Beaufort is beautiful and "La Cimarrona" is a delightful bit of the past brought to the present. It provided just what we, and our dog, needed to explore the low country. The neighbors were friendly, the local restaurants and shopping were perfect, and it's a quick drive to Charleston and Savannah. We especially enjoyed Hunting Island. We hope to be able to escape here again in the future!

  • Our stay at La Cimarrona was the perfect getaway from the business of city life. Britt and Alejandro were so helpful and organized, and responsive when we needed some extra tips. The little home is the ideal size for two, and it provided plenty of warmth and shelter from what turned out to be some rainy days in Beaufort. The main drag of town was in easy walking distance, and there were plenty of grocery stores nearby. I'd recommend La Cimarrona to anyone looking for a quiet lowcountry escape!

  • Britt and Alejandro have a little treasure to share with their house "La Cimarrona" in Beaufort, SC. My husband and I spent our 5 day break with our two dogs here and enjoyed Beaufort, and trips to Charleston, Savannah, and Hunting Island. The quiet neighborhood, friendly neighbors and great fenced back yard with deck all made relaxing here very enjoyable. Britt is a very responsive host. All details about access and instructions were made clear, and allowed us to check-in when we needed to. The house is very quaint with awesome artwork throughout. Kitchen, sitting area (with wood fireplace that we didn't need!), comfortable bed, and bath are set up with everything we wanted. TV with built-in DVD player, and iPhone/iPod speaker dock allowed us to listen to music. Radio gets NPR. Great little shops within walking distance. We would highly recommend their charming house, and would consider returning.

  • We loved our week at La Cimarrona in Beaufort. The little cabin was very comfortable (especially after Britt told us about the wall heater!) and it was a perfect launching place for visits to Savannah, Charleston, and the beautiful Hunting Beach State Park. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed a few home cooked meals with local seafood and had excellent coffee with breakfast in the Krups coffee maker! We took our bicycles and found the area perfect for biking and exploring. I can see how dog owners would love the place, with its fenced yard. Alas, we no longer have a dog, but would have loved to be in such a place with him.

  • My wife and I, along with our dog, traveled from snowy Michigan to SC for a break from winter. La Cimarrona was such a great place to be for the week! The town of Beaufort is inviting and it is an easy drive to Savannah, GA for a nice day trip. The weather was great, warm during the day with a couple of cool nights, but the heater worked well. The house was just the right size for 2 adults and a dog. We used the kitchen a few times and we were glad to have it. The bathroom is pretty good size, although the shower was a challenge for someone who is 6', but this was such a minor inconvenience! The back yard was perfect for the dog to run around. Finn thanks you! La Cimarrona is located within a short walk to downtown shopping and dining and an easy drive to other stores in town. We spent several days at Hunting Island. Beautiful park and great beach! Make sure you climb the lighthouse. Many good restaurants, too. If you want BBQ go to Sgt. White's. It's only open for lunch, though, but the food is excellent. Check out Gullah Grub, too. If you want good chocolate, don't miss The Chocolate Tree. Delicious and almost all it is made right there. Lot's of great history, too. Don't forget to drive around town and see the sights. The house from the movies Big Chill and Great Santini is in town.

I would highly recommend the nice house when you travel to Beaufort. We're already planning a future trip!
