Suite upstairs in an 1825 Creole house. We have a fantastic garden that we share with our neighbors. This is a lovely suite with a small bedroom and larger sitting room with a balcony and french doors where you can sit and enjoy the garden, Armstrong Park views and the passersby. Your private bathroom with tub/shower is adjacent. A utility room downstairs is equipped with a frig, microwave, water kettle, toaster and sink that you SHARE with the downstairs.
The building is nearing 200 years old and we do our best to preserve it for the future. It is a conservation (not a renovation) so understand that you will be staying in a piece of history and not at the W hotel. There is a steep narrow staircase, and old bathrooms that were added to the building in the 1920's. A wonderful balcony that was recently rebuilt for safety. We have done our best to preserve old paint finishes and wood patinas in the house. To make it comfortable we have added some modern touches like air conditioner units to the windows and updating the electric in the building. All electric and plumbing works well.
We live downstairs and are available as needed. Across from Louis Armstrong Park, and within 2 blocks of all the French Quarter's main attractions. There is net gear enabled tv with netflix, hulu plus, pandora and more and high speed wireless. Bourbon Street a 2 min walk away, with all the well-known jazz, blues, strip, gay and dance clubs all at your fingertips....... and the Treme (now famous from the HBO series) neighborhood to explore. We are only a few blocks from all the excitement but just out of the noisy zone so you can find peace and rest. Please note that this is the French Quarter - so there will be garbage trucks, then street sweepers, then the gardeners with leaf blowers in the morning - if you stayed out late at the clubs you may want to consider bringing some ear plugs with you to sleep in in the morning.
If you are driving, expect the usual parking headaches of any big city. On a major bus line, just a few blocks from the famous street car lines, horse drawn carriages nearby and a taxi stand on the corner makes for easy getting around. There is also nearby and inexpensive bike rental.
We would be glad to welcome you - we are easy going, stress free folks in the Big Easy, you should be too. We would like to particularly encourage you to stay with us if you are thinking about a move to New Orleans - many of our guests have ended up becoming our neighbors. Come find out why the French Quarter is the best place to live on earth! This is by far one of the best deals in the French Quarter for a decent place with decent people, just steps from the best of the Vieux Carre.
Just returned from an incredible weekend in the great city of New Orleans and our stay at this fabulous little apartment added to our overall experience! Gregory was a fantastic host - very attentive, great personality and readily available to give advice on where to go and what to do around the city. Check out his awesome French cafe down the street for some delicious baked goods and cafe au laits. The neighborhood was also the ideal location, especially since we did not want to be in the heart of the Quarter, which truly never sleeps. It was the perfect distance away for us to get some peace and quite after long nights out, but also close enough that we could easily walk everywhere from Armstrong Park right across the street, to Frenchman Street, St. Louis Cemetary and even downtown. The bed was comfy and we loved all of the eclectic art and decor around the apartment. It got a little hot, even though the AC was pumping, but that's to be expected during the summer in the south. Overall, it was a perfect and authentic experience that I would most definitely recommend!
Greg/Vince did an excellent job describing the place and it's exactly what they said. I never had the chance to meet Greg but Vince was very nice and accommodating. We had a great time in New Orleans and if you're looking for an authentic vacation this is the place. The one drawback is the stairs are super hard to navigate if you have any ailments or are elderly, both of which we have. The parking situation is a bit tricky, but is to be expected in the Quarter. The place is really quaint and the neighborhood is definitely getting better. Walking out the gate and being in the French Quarter made all of the little details fade away, it's quite a magical spot.
Clean apartment and excellent host. We were accommodated with everything we need. Great location to have fun in the French Quarter.
We had a good time in New Orleans and the stay at Gregory's added to that. The place was clean, nicely decorated and we really felt part of the NO culture and french quarter. Gregory and Vincent were very helpful and flexible. We decided to stay one more night and that was no problem.
The French Quarter is a really fun place to be, and this apartment is right there! The chickens in the courtyard were a hilarious addition. Watch out for the New Orleans Traffic cops -- they are VERY VERY aggressive at towing your car. And why not??? At least $200 dollars a pop - it's a great scam. Do yourself a favor: DO NOT PARK ON THE STREET. Park in a garage. There are a couple just a few blocks away.
Vince was incredibly gracious though, offering me a ride to the impound lot after my car got towed.
We had a great experience of New Orleans staying at Greg/Vince place. We loved the unique decor and the personality of the apartment. Thanks a lot to Vince for helping us with everything from finding parking on the busy Friday evening to sharing about his favorite places around which would not show up on Yelp or TripAdvisor.
The location is just a few minutes walk to all the action and excitement New Orleans had to offer.
Turned out to be an awesome trip with some great memories..
We rally enjoyed our stay in New Orleans. It was made so much better because of the lovely hospitality of Gregory and Vince. They responded quickly on short notice. We arrived quite early on the bus and were able to leave our bags at their cafe. This is probably the perfect location if you want to experience the French Quarter without the noise. It's really is within walking distance of everything you need and if you decide to leave the Quarter the trolley and bus are easily available. The apartment looked just like it did in the photos and was very homey. Right across the street from the Armstrong park. If we make it back to New Orleans, we would definitely stay again. You should too!
Gregory was readily communicative and accommodating to our schedule. He was conversational and informative. The best aspect of the space is the lovely view from balcony toward Armstrong Park. The pictures of the interior are very accurate - the furnishings are comfortable and the decorations are stimulating. Even though the bedroom is directly on a busy street we slept uninterrupted. The courtyard is a relaxed space that easily conveys the rhythm of the historic French Quarter.
Perfect home base for New Orleans. Loved the balcony and courtyard. Rampart St. the street was lively enough to feel safe at night, but not too loud. Great cocktail bar (Bar Tonique) and coffee shop (Mister Gregory's) a few storefronts down. Very easy (5 mins) walk into heart of French Quarter. Communication with Gregory and Vince was a breeze. Recommend.
Loved the experience. The place is in a unique and interesting area with plenty of opportunities nearby. Highly recommended.
