Soak up the views during your stay.
Make history when you spend the night on USS Cobia, our fully restored World War II submarine.

The Wisconsin Maritime Museum has been the home of USS Cobia for over 50 years. Founded as a submariners' memorial in 1969, we have grown to be the state's maritime museum with exhibits on shipwrecks, models, car ferries & subs.

SubBnb sleeps up to 65 people in sailors' bunks throughout the boat. The listed price includes the first five guests, and any additional guest will have an added fee.

The space
USS Cobia is the best-preserved World War II submarine in the country. It has been meticulously restored with amenities added like heat and air conditioning, making it perfect for year-round overnight visits.

Your stay will be as unique as the submarine. No two visits are exactly alike. With more than 50 different places to sleep, you get to choose your own adventure on USS Cobia.

During your stay, you're welcome to explore the submarine. Your stay includes a personalized behind-the-scenes tour through the boat. This staff person will be your point of contact and on-site all evening.

Your stay includes admission to the museum after-hours. All of our exhibits will remain on just for you throughout your visit. The theater is also ready for your group's private screening of a movie from our large library of maritime and submarine movies. Playing cards and board games are available for your use.

We provide bedding and toiletries. Showers and restrooms are on-site (in the museum) and available to all guests. A light breakfast consisting of items such as bananas, apples, bagels, and muffins will be served in the morning.

USS Cobia is only accessible via stairs and there are seven bulkhead doors to climb through to navigate the entire boat. The only access to get out onto the boat is through the museum.

Because we are an operational museum, our policies are a little different. You're welcome to stay several nights, but we will pack up and secure your items during the hours the museum and sub are open for tours.

The restrooms on Cobia are not functional. If you need to use the restroom, you will need to come into the Museum to do so. The Museum's restrooms and showers will be accessible to you at all times.

Guest access
You'll have access to the entire submarine and the museum from 5pm until checkout. You will also be given a key to enter the staff door of the museum so you can come and go as you please during your stay.

Other things to note
We clean the submarine extensively before and after every stay and throughout the day.

The provided bedding is professionally cleaned.

The submarine has an HVAC system and air purifiers are placed throughout the submarine for additional sanitization.

Even with HVAC on the submarine, if you are booking during the peak of summer or the peak of winter, expect the temperatures on board to be high or low due to being in a WWII sub.

Neighborhood highlights

Manitowoc has a long history of shipbuilding. We built schooners here during the 1800s. During World War II, our town built 28 submarines for the war effort. We continue to manufacture luxury yachts and tour vessels at local shipbuilders like Burger Boat. You can walk from the museum in almost any direction and immerse yourself in maritime history. The lighthouse, shipyards, car ferry dock and bustling harbor are all nearby.

The museum also has a rooftop bar, the Sub Pub! It's open during the summer months. The view is unbeatable.

We are only steps away from excellent local restaurants and pubs. A full-service hotel is immediately next door.

The SS Badger docks right across the river from the Museum, making this an easy destination for those traveling across the lake on the car ferry from Ludington, Michigan. Manitowoc is about 30 minutes north of Sheboygan and 45 minutes south of Green Bay.
