Spend the night in a light-filled apartment in a 19th century Faubourg St. John home, steps from Jazz Fest and oak-lined Esplanade Ave. This artfully-appointed, 800-sq ft mother-in-law unit features a king bed, pool and private entrance on the ground floor of a large, historic house in a neighborhood Time Out recently rated one of the best on the planet, walkable to restaurants, bars, grocery stores, City Park and Bayou St. John.

We are the only legal, city-permitted STR unit on our blockface.

The space
We just completed a pool that our guests are welcome to use.

Other amenities include:

-Full kitchen
-Shared electric car charger
-King-sized, memory-foam bed
-Composting service
-Sanitized bike helmets for taking advantage of nearby bike share
-Access to shared laundry facilities (for guests staying a week or longer)
-Monthly rentals come with one cleaning mid-way through guests' stay
-Weekly housekeeping available for an additional fee.
-Gym with peleton bike, treadmill and free weights available to those staying a week or more.

The apartment sits beneath our family home. We have two young, energetic children who wake up early and you will sometimes hear the pitter patter of their feet above your head. Fortunately, they also go to bed early. Please also note that the apartment ceiling height is roughly 7.5', accommodating my 6'4" father-in-law comfortably. We share the property with a long-term tenant who lives in the carriage house out back.

We are passionate about environmental sustainability. To that end, the apartment benefits from solar panels; is heated and cooled by high-efficiency mini splits; and guests arriving by EV are welcome to use our level 2 car charger. We are a certified Louisiana native habitat thanks to the plants found across the property and we are in the process of removing excess concrete and planting even more.

We became the lucky stewards of this 150-year-old house three years ago and are in the midst of lovingly restoring it. So while the insides are fully renovated, some exterior elements remain charmingly shabby chic.

Guest access
Guests have the entire apartment to themselves, a covered patio with rocking chairs, and are welcome to make use of the 10,000 square foot shared yard. Parking is on-street.

Other things to note
We look forward to hosting mature and considerate adults who will respect our home and neighbors.

-Please ask to book only if you are 25 or older, have previous stays and reviews on your profile, and include the names of all guests on your reservation.

-Only guests listed on the reservation are allowed on the property without express prior permission from hosts. Unauthorized guests are grounds for reservation termination.

-Please help preserve our linens by making use of the makeup towels provided. Guests will be charged the replacement fee for missing or damaged items, including excessively stained linens.

Our house is 150 years old with wooden floors upstairs, which means that you will sometimes hear certain noises - such as kids running around - primarily from the living room of the unit. Our children are usually asleep by 8 p.m.

Neighborhood highlights

Its artsy vibe, friendly atmosphere, and the historic bayou after which it is named make Faubourg St. John our favorite New Orleans neighborhood. Our central, Mid-City location makes it easy to get just about anywhere in town, and there's so much you can experience without setting foot in a car, from sunsets on Bayou St. John to a stroll beneath the majestic oaks on Esplanade or in City Park (home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, Bestoff Sculpture Garden, Louisiana Children's Museum, fabulous running and biking trails and lagoons filled with flora and fauna - including alligators! - great for fishing or paddling) to groceries, restaurants and bars, to say nothing of Jazz Fest season, when the neighborhood turns into one big rollicking block party.
