We'd love to have you stay in the Gray Room at our private country home in Sonoma County. We also have several other rooms available in the house, so feel free to take a look around!

My fiance and I wanted to escape city life for one night, to a cozy faraway place with a hot tub. When we arrived we found out the hot tub was, sadly, out of commission! Instead we layered up with blankets and read books to the sound of rainfall, then watched a DVD with glorious surround sound. The almost-too-big house really sparkled in the morning sunshine; our morning walk around the misty property was the highlight of our stay. Mark was a gracious host who greeted us with a quick, informative tour of the place, and upon departure directed us to a great brunch spot in Occidental (Howard's).
Mark is a great host. We had the house for a week and he came in to change sheets and refresh towels halfway though the week. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. Highly recommend.
Mark graciously showed us around the property which includes a lovely home with its remodeled kitchen, warm pool and spa. We enjoyed our stay at this property that included ducks and a beautiful vegetable garden. We used it as a base to tour Sebastapol, Occidental, Freestone and Bodega traveling the back roads.
We stayed in Mark's home in early August 2013. We were a group of 10 adults. The home and grounds were very nice. We loved the pool, kitchen area and outdoor dining table. The home is located in the heart of the Western Sonoma wine country. We did walks and bike rides on nearby county paths and the road. We would definitely return for a future gathering.
We gathered a group of 5 college friends and their spouses/significant others to stay at Mark's home during a friend's wedding weekend in Sebastopol, which we treated as a mini-reunion 8 years post-graduation. Mark's son was there to greet us, give us a tour of the house/property, and give us some helpful pointers for the weekend. The home was great - clean, charming interior and property grounds, enough space to accommodate everyone, and only about 2 miles away from the wedding venue (as well as a relatively short drive away from the best bread place ever - Wild Flour Bakery - and the post-wedding brunch in Bodega Bay). If we had more time outside of wedding activities, I would have loved to take advantage of cooking in the open kitchen or out on the grill. Perhaps next time!
A couple quirks that may be helpful to know before you book the house ...
- The last half mile or so of road to get there is a bit windy, bumpy and dark at night, so if you're up there for a wedding or other festivities involving wine/cocktails, I'd recommend making alternative transportation plans to be safe.
- I will admit this group of 30 year-old married and normally low key friends got a bit too excited to see each other on Friday, after some of us had been living in Costa Rica for the past three years, others living across the country for medical/law/business school, etc. So after the rehearsal dinner on Friday, we came back to the home and got a little louder than I would have expected. But Mark's son was kind enough to reach out preemptively and let us know we were probably being a bit loud for the neighbors. Thankfully (for me and the neighbors), this group of good friends was quick - and happy - to take steps to simmer down and to keep the noise level down the next evening.
- WiFi access was great in the house and everywhere on the property, but none of us could get more than 1 bar of service on our cell phones. So text messages and emails seemed to be a better/more reliable way to communicate with those who did a coffee or breakfast run and with guests/friends who were staying at a nearby hotel.
All in all, it was a great experience, Mark and his son were very friendly and helpful, and I would definitely recommend staying here for a weekend retreat.
Great place/great host- Mark was very gracious and the house is a wonderful base for exploring the region or just for hanging out. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience (and even got some duck eggs from Mark in the process. Very cool). Great place for friends to hang out and reconnect and relax. I was with eight close friends for a weekend of golf, grilling and wine.
Our group (8) had a very positive experience at Mark's place. Mark is very accomadating and made himself available to us via phone / email for questions. The place comfortably slept everyone (all queen and king beds). The master bathroom was really nice and we made good use of the pool and hot tub. Location is really good as it's close to many top Russian River wineries (Merry Edwards, Dutton Goldfield, Joseph Swan to name a few). The wildlife around the property was interesting to see.
The only challenges were using the grill at first and some ants that got at our food, but nothing that would prevent us from staying there again.
We had a fantastic time at Mark's home. Everything was clean and the property itself is great for spending a couple of days relaxing in the Sonoma countryside. We'd definitely stay here again.
Hot tub at night with stars above is a really hard thing to beat. It's in a great location to hit the wine trail and Mark was an excellent and informative host. With a larger party renting the whole house you could really get a feel of Sonoma county and enjoy the outdoor setting alongside the spacious interior. We felt right at home immediately. Plus, the neighbors raise ducks which adds to the country chic.
We loved Mark's place, it was quite and homey. All the bedrooms were great. And it is super close to winery's .
