A very stylish doueria (traditionally a small independent annex to a large riad) which I've designed as my pied-à-terre, right in the centre of the Marrakech medina, in one of its more luxurious, safe and well-situated neighbourhoods (Mouassine).

The space

Very stylish doueria (traditionally a small independent annex to a large riad), right in the centre of the Marrakech medina, in one of its more luxurious and well-situated neighbourhoods (Mouassine).

Close to the souks (less than a minute), to Jemaa el Fna (less than 5 minutes) and places like the Cafe Arabe, Terrasse des Epices, Dar Cherifa (all only a few minutes away) etc.

The house mixes contemporary and more classic design with traditional architecture and boasts modern amenities such as a projector and pull-down screen in the living room, which also has a fire place, ADSL internet, en-suite bathroom in each room, modern kitchen on the ground floor and little kitchen/bbq on the terrace with panoramic views of the Atlas mountains and the rest of the medina.

Touria will provide a traditional breakfast each morning as well as clean the house during your stay, and can also provide excellent traditional moroccan meals if requested.

The house has a eating/seating area as well as an open kitchen on the ground floor around the patio from which a Bougainvillea tree grows up all the way to the terrace. The first floor is where you'll find the living room, the library as well as two of the bedrooms. The master bedroom with its own little salon and mini-terrace is on the top floor, leading to the terrace dining area and lounging areas.

During the winter months, individual heaters are available for each room, and for the summer months, the top room is equipped with an air conditioner (the rooms on the first floor always remain fresh, ensured by the traditional design of the house)

Interaction with guests

Since I'm not often in Marrakech these days, communication with myself will happen by email. The house is being taken care of by Touria who'll come in the morning to make breakfast, and clean up. She can also prepare wonderfully home cooked moroccan dishes on request. Adil or Philippe, who run a guest house in the same street will provide you with the keys and help you with any questions you might have on your arrival.

House Rules

It would be very much appreciated if the tranquility of the neighbourhood is respected (noise travels far on the roof terraces) and local customs not offended.

Even though certain areas of Marrakech have an "anything goes" atmosphere, this is not the case of the medina which is far more conservative. Prostitution and illegal substances are prohibited in Morocco and subject to criminal sanctions. Please do not bring any guests to the house unless this has been cleared beforehand explicitly.

Smoking is only allowed on the patio and the roof terrace.

Everything about this rental was great!--All the people involved with the riad (Hugo, Phillipe and Rachida) were fantastic! Hugo helpfully supplied us with all the needed info and setup our arrival. On site, Philippe welcomed us and explained everything we needed to know in detail. And Rachida cooked great local breakfasts 6 days a week and delicious dinners that we requested twice a week (5 weeks)--as well as taking care of us. We absolutely loved this riad. It served our needs well since we had 2 sets of family visits, including a 6y old. Many thanks to Philippe for setting up all the airport transfers and porters. The riad more than exceeded our expectations. The central medina location was tranquil because it's located on a dead-end walkway that is itself well inside a residential "derb" area with only 2 access gateways--no casual sightseers. What's more to say? we found everything from the multi-level roof patio to the ground floor dining area (w 1/2 bath, i.e., toilet and sink) to be very cosy and stylish -- modern styling combined with recycled touches. We can highly recommend this riad as being the best AirBnB rental in our 2+ years of use (30? rentals--we've been traveling for 3+ yrs).

Hugo's place was perfect. It was very conveniently located, and despite a very late and delayed flight arrival from Casablanca we were greeted by a driver and guided to the Riad by Philippe. The riad was a delight: clean, quiet and spacious. Sophia made us superb meals; and Philippe explained the best "must see" places. All-in-all EXCELLENT! Highly recommended.

Hugo's Riad is AMAZING!! The experience of ducking through the hidden alleyways of the crazy old world Medina to arrive at the little red door that opens into this quiet oasis is one of a kind. The photography, decor, comfortable bed (we slept in the top bedroom, sitting areas and best of all - the TERRACE! I can't imagine a better Marrakech experience. We will stay here every time we visit Marrakech. Hugo himself was extremely helpful and communicative in booking the Riad the transfer from airport (would never have found it on our own!) as well as recommending the Maison de Photographie, restaurants, etc. Phillip who greeted us was also fantastic with an easy to use map (navigation is the most challenging part!) and many great restaurant recommendations which we loved. Terrase de Epices was a fav. Stay here - you won't be disappointed!

I have nothing but positive things to say about Hugo and his riad. The place is super convenient, offering a quiet haven from the bustle of the medina. In addition to three cozy bedrooms, the rooftop is a great place to end the day. Hugo is a super attentive host and the daily maid service means that you're basically getting the same (if not better) service than at most hotels. Would highly recommend.

Hugo was readily available from the beginning of the process - which is really helpful when you are booking last minute. The location had wonderful charm. Its about a minutes walk from the main road full of stalls, through a gorgeous set of paths and alcoves. Its about 5 minutes walk from the main square so youll be hard pressed to beat the location. The building is set across 3 levels and has a wonderful roof top. Like all Riad's there are quite a lot of stairs, especially if you are staying in the master bedroom on the top floor - but you get used to it. Definitely take Hugo's airport pick up and drop off service, well priced and would be impossible to get to without it. Morning breakfasts provided by the maid topped it all off. Oh and ask Hugo for places to eat - great recommendations.

Thoroughly recommend this stylish riad which sits right in the centre of the old town (Medina). The maze of souks are located around the corner and it's only a short 5 minute walk to the main square Jemaa el-fna. The rooms are very spacious, and boast a rooftop terrace and open kitchen area to enjoy your food and drink. The facilities are perfect for a short stay. We were also lucky enough to have a maid cook us a traditional Moroccan breakfast each morning! The host Hugo was really helpful in suggesting things to do and places to see and remained in contact throughout our stay. He also arranged a direct transfer from the airport! Overall a fantastic experience! Thanks Hugo.

Hugo's Riad is centrally located, right beside the souks. It looks like the photos, is well equipped with a relaxing roof terrace that had various chairs, tables and sun loungers. Hugo gave lots of tips by email on where to go and visit. We arranged with Hugo a taxi pick up from the airport and porter at the entrance of the Medina which is essential if you have never been to the Medina before. Phillipe met us at the Riad and gave useful information and a large scale Marrakech map - no hard sell :) - but willing to arrange a 1/2 day guide and return trip to airport. Rachida hand-made a different type of moroccan msemen/pancakes/crepes/baghrir each day for breakfast, plus fruit, jam, honey, yogurt, local bread, butter, freshly made orange juice and mint tea/coffee. Delicious. She also cleaned and was very gentle and discreet. Perfect stay.
