Very stylish doueria (traditionally a small independent annex to a large riad), right in the centre of the Marrakech medina, in one of its more luxurious and well-situated neighbourhoods (Mouassine).
Close to the souks (less than a minute), to Jemaa el Fna (less than 5 minutes) and places like the Cafe Arabe, Terrasse des Epices, Dar Cherifa (all only a few minutes away) etc.
The house mixes contemporary and more classic design with traditional architecture and boasts modern amenities such as a projector and pull-down screen in the living room, which also has a fire place, ADSL internet, en-suite bathroom in each room, modern kitchen on the ground floor and little kitchen/bbq on the terrace with panoramic views of the Atlas mountains and the rest of the medina.
Rachida will provide a traditional breakfast each morning as well as clean the house during your stay, and can also provide excellent traditional moroccan meals if requested.
The house has a eating/seating area as well as an open kitchen on the ground floor around the patio from which a Bougainvillea tree grows up all the way to the terrace. The first floor is where you'll find the living room, the library as well as two of the bedrooms. The master bedroom with its own little salon and mini-terrace is on the top floor, leading to the terrace dining area and lounging areas.
During the winter months, individual heaters are available for each room, and for the summer months, the top room is equipped with an air conditioner (the rooms on the first floor always remain fresh, ensured by the traditional design of the house)
Great riad in the middle of the medina, stylish space, nice roof terrace & cosy living room. Tasty breakfasts prepared by Rachida who also made a couple of delicious home cooked dinners for us. Spent a lovely week here.
Hugo was easy to communicate with and all aspects of arriving and being met in Marrakech were sorted out very efficiently. His suggestions about where to go and what to do were very helpful. The riad was great - it has lovely furniture, and lovely photographs and pictures on the walls and a real sense of light and space. The roof terrace was a beautiful place to read and have lunch in the winter sun and we made a nice cosy evening in the upstairs living room once it had got cold. We all loved the tree growing up through the middle of the riad and the plants on the terrace and the bird song. It is also really well situated for any shopping in the souks, or eating out and the neighbourhood is amazingly quiet and peaceful considering how central it is. This was a very nice experience all round. Thanks.
Great location, great house, modern, spotlessly clean, very welcoming, we loved it!
This was so much more than we expected!
Hugo's house is amazing - beautifully furnished, great layout, it made us feel at home from the very beginning.
This property is located near Bab Laksour, a very nice area of Marrakech right at the heart of the Medina.
Hugo was super helpful and arranged everything for us - plus gave us lots of good recommendations. A great experience!
Hugo's place was perfect. It was very conveniently located, and despite a very late and delayed flight arrival from Casablanca we were greeted by a driver and guided to the Riad by Philippe. The riad was a delight: clean, quiet and spacious. Sophia made us superb meals; and Philippe explained the best "must see" places. All-in-all EXCELLENT! Highly recommended.
Where to begin... My partner and I were lucky enough to call Hugo's riad home for a month and a half. We visit Marrakech every year and this year by far was the best, mostly due to the wonderful home that Hugo has created.
The location of the riad can't be beat and is probably on the most picturesque little street in all of the Medina. Winding back and forth through the narrow passageways, passing by tiny artesan shops where the shop keepers greet you each day and being tucked away in a serene and quiet location only a minute or two from the bustling main artery of the souk was ideal. Within a few minutes one will reach the main place where life gathers and have at their disposal some of the best restaurants in the medina.
The riad itself is ideal for someone wanting to experience a more authentic side of Marrakech. The spaces are situated around a wonderful central courtyard where flower petals fall throughout the day and sunbeams cast a warm glow early in the morning. The home remains rather cool even during the peak of the day whilst the master bedroom on the upper level is air conditioned so even during the hot summer one can retreat and sleep comfortably. The rooftop terraced with it's many potted bougainvillea was our refuge each day and Hugo has it situated so it's comfortable to lay out under the umbrella and look upon the towers and rooftops. Each bedroom was comfortable, with it's own ensuite. The drawing room on the second level turned out to be our favorite place to stay cool and the massive drop down screen and HD projector topped it off. Overall the space is very nice, well decorated in a mid century modern style, Hugo has a wonderful collection of books and pretty much anything one needs to feel at home.
Each morning our day began with a wonderful breakfast prepared and served by Sophia who was absolutely incredible and went above and beyond in every way. I had an unfortunate visit to the hospital and Sophia was kind enough to bring me roses and a homemade cake which was an amazing surprise.
Hugo was an incredible host and provided the best recommendations we've ever had for Marrakech. We hope to be back at his wonderful riad next year as we really did feel at home and love our time there.
