Classy 3bdr house in the medina

House - Entire home/apt · Derb Deffa ou Rbaâ, Marrakesh, Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz, Morocco

The Space

Very stylish doueria (traditionally a small independent annex to a large riad), right in the centre of the Marrakech medina, in one of its more luxurious and well-situated neighbourhoods (Mouassine).

Close to the souks (less than a minute), to Jemaa el Fna (less than 5 minutes) and places like the Cafe Arabe, Terrasse des Epices, Dar Cherifa (all only a few minutes away) etc.

The house mixes contemporary and more classic design with traditional architecture and boasts modern amenities such as a projector and pull-down screen in the living room, which also has a fire place, ADSL internet, en-suite bathroom in each room, modern kitchen on the ground floor and little kitchen/bbq on the terrace with panoramic views of the Atlas mountains and the rest of the medina.

Rachida will provide a traditional breakfast each morning as well as clean the house during your stay, and can also provide excellent traditional moroccan meals if requested.

The house has a eating/seating area as well as an open kitchen on the ground floor around the patio from which a Bougainvillea tree grows up all the way to the terrace. The first floor is where you'll find the living room, the library as well as two of the bedrooms. The master bedroom with its own little salon and mini-terrace is on the top floor, leading to the terrace dining area and lounging areas.

During the winter months, individual heaters are available for each room, and for the summer months, the top room is equipped with an air conditioner (the rooms on the first floor always remain fresh, ensured by the traditional design of the house)

  • Nice experience in Hugo's riad!
Well decoration, warm welcome, Samira has prepared delicious breakfast and dinner, and we enjoyed the atmosphere, the good location of the Riad, close to El Fna square, amazing place in the evening to be seen from the terrace of any bar the real life of Marrakech...
First time to Marocco and Africa for us, Hugo has taken care of everything, giving us usefull suggestion and we felt very relaxed.
Thank you Hugo, if have chance to come back to Marrakech, we will stay again at Riad!

  • I highly recommend Hugo's riad for anyone travelling to Marrakesh. The entire experience--from the communication and booking through to the stay itself--was pleasant. Hugo was enagaged and responsive while we were making our plans to visit Morocco. He answered messages promptly and provided extensive tourism information. His recommendations on places to visit and meals were much appreciated and spot on.

Having never been to Morocco we were unsure of what to expect. We asked Hugo to arrange for a driver to pick us up on arrival at the Marrakesh airport. The driver was there waiting with a sign. A short drive into the medina brought us to a drop off point where the car could go no further. A man was waiting there with a cart for our luggage, and he led us walking through the narrow twisty streets until we arrived at the red door to Hugo's riad. Inside, we found comfortable accomodations, precisely as advertised.

We were served mint tea on arrival by our lovely host. She spent a good part of each day there, making breakfast, and cleaning. She typically left in the mid afternoon, but offered to cook us a traditional dinner if we wanted. My daughter was ill one day (a bug she brought into the country) and the hostess made her rice and special stomach soothing tea. Hugo's other local support people were very helpful as well, arranging a driver to take us to the camel riding spot, and to a pharmacy, booking our visit to the hammam, and delivering wine and beer (which is not sold in the medina, but can be purchased at markets in the new town). When we accidentally locked our key in the riad, a member of Hugo's team showed up promptly to open it up for us. At the end of our stay, our early morning pick up for the trip to the airport was there on time, as promised. I cannot say enough about the customer service--it was truly outstanding. Hugo himself was highly responsive via email the entire visit as well and was in contact with his team on our behalf. He emailed me within minutes of our arrival to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

The place itself was comfortable. The only negative was it was a bit chilly in the evening (we were there in the winter, and the central courtyard has no roof, so heat dissipates easily.) But this was a minor inconvenience. Although we lacked firewood, there were plenty of spaceheaters to sit by in the evening and the reality is we spent very little time indoors. Most of the time we were out exploring the medina. Marrakesh felt safe even at night. The beds were warm and comfortable and the Wifi worked like a charm.

I would have no hesitation renting from Hugo again.

  • Hugo's Riad is AMAZING!! The experience of ducking through the hidden alleyways of the crazy old world Medina to arrive at the little red door that opens into this quiet oasis is one of a kind. The photography, decor, comfortable bed (we slept in the top bedroom, sitting areas and best of all - the TERRACE! I can't imagine a better Marrakech experience. We will stay here every time we visit Marrakech.

Hugo himself was extremely helpful and communicative in booking the Riad the transfer from airport (would never have found it on our own!) as well as recommending the Maison de Photographie, restaurants, etc. Phillip who greeted us was also fantastic with an easy to use map (navigation is the most challenging part!) and many great restaurant recommendations which we loved. Terrase de Epices was a fav.

Stay here - you won't be disappointed!

  • Myself and my son stayed here for 6 days at the start of October and had a great time. As with most buildings in Marrakesh Hugo's place is innocuous on the outside but once inside its modern, comfortable and an all round great place to stay.

The beds were comfy, bathrooms clean, Wifi worked perfectly, the rooftop is great...I could go on. The maid Samira was a fantastic cook, a lovely person and not overbearing at all. We never actually met Hugo, but he was very nice and responsive by email before arrival, and his friend Philippe (who works just around the corner) was very kind and helpful with information when we were there.

Marrakesh is a great city to explore, and this place offers good value in a fantastic location just off the main alleys of the Medina, meaning it's convenient to get around but quiet as well. Although it was 2 of us in separate bedrooms, all 3 bedrooms were nice and could easily house 4-6.

  • I have nothing but positive things to say about Hugo and his riad. The place is super convenient, offering a quiet haven from the bustle of the medina. In addition to three cozy bedrooms, the rooftop is a great place to end the day. Hugo is a super attentive host and the daily maid service means that you're basically getting the same (if not better) service than at most hotels. Would highly recommend.

  • Hugo was readily available from the beginning of the process - which is really helpful when you are booking last minute. The location had wonderful charm. Its about a minutes walk from the main road full of stalls, through a gorgeous set of paths and alcoves. Its about 5 minutes walk from the main square so youll be hard pressed to beat the location. The building is set across 3 levels and has a wonderful roof top. Like all Riad's there are quite a lot of stairs, especially if you are staying in the master bedroom on the top floor - but you get used to it. Definitely take Hugo's airport pick up and drop off service, well priced and would be impossible to get to without it. Morning breakfasts provided by the maid topped it all off. Oh and ask Hugo for places to eat - great recommendations.

  • Gorgeous house, lovely Moroccan character combined with modern amenities. Perfect for extended family trips or several friends/couples travelling together. Rooftop was amazing. Great, central location within the medina. A bit cold at night, as with most riads during winter in Marrakech. Heaters in bedrooms worked perfectly but heater for ground floor wasn't working. We just huddled around with an extra cup of mint tea at breakfast so it wasn't a big deal... but worth noting to those considering a visit during wintertime.

  • Hugo riad is a paradise inside the medina. it's very close to the main plaza jeema el fna, the heart of the city; it is well-furnished in a modern design with new electronics and it has a big rooftop where have a good time with a great view over the whole city.
The dining room on the ground floor is the perfect place to have a Moroccan breakfast and dinner, deliciously made by the housemaid (a delicate presence inside the riad) while living room -on the first floor with fireplace-is unique with its combination of style and taste.
the three bedrooms -each ones with private bath- are ideal for a group of friends who want spend a vacation all together but with their own privacy.
Hugo was an excellent owner. We was in touch every day for any "desire" an he gave us a lot of inside tips on what and how to visit, where to eat.
    highly recommended!!
