My friends and I had a happy, calm and productive experience staying at Jen and Joe's place over a weekend in the middle of November. That is a perfect spot if you need a quick getaway and a rest from busy city. The neighborhood is very peacefull and you have access to everything you may need: big food store, deli, Russian restaurant, gym, beach and transportation, the bus or train is just around the corner. Apartment has lots of natural sunlight during the day. It is cozy and the old radio in the corner is a nice touch. Jen met us there as soon as we arrived and showed everything around, she was very helpful and kind. Thank you very much!
Jen and Joe's space is very nice indeed. Exactly what I was looking for in fact. It's a small, one bedroom place about a block and a half from the beach. If you're not familiar with the Rockaways and the damage that occurred during Sandy (I was a first responder), you'll be a bit shocked by the neighborhood as yes, there are still signs of Sandy. But, if you're like me, and you saw how bad Sandy hit the Rockaways, you can really appreciate the work that Jen and Joe put in to making their place really feel homie. I thought they were both very accessible -- answering text messages promptly and thoroughly and overall, it was a very good experience. The only thing I'd change is to add curtains to the bedroom window as there is a light on throughout the night that can be a bit bright when trying to sleep. That's about it. Everything else was great. I'd stay there again!
Nice clean place next to the beach; very pleasant garden. Jen was very prompt in responses. Definitely recommended
Great location and excellent, helpful host! The apartment was clean and comfortable with everything you would need for a short beach stay. Lots of great restaurants around (fish taco place is a must) and the locals were really nice and welcoming. It was surprisingly easy to locate from the train making visits from the city rather simple. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone!!
The apartment is very nicely decorated, just like in the pictures, and very well furnished with useful amenities. There is even a nice "outdoor living room" area for guests in front of the apartment with a huge grill, table, sofas and everything! On our second day at the apartment, we asked Joe for a small broom and dustpan, and he brought them over right away (Jen & Joe live nearby). We also had a great time at the beach and at our favorite restaurant nearby, Rockaway Taco.
Jen was very nice and a pleasure. She contacted me as soon as I got there and was accessible whenever I needed. The place is exactly as the picture shows. More on the chic side than the shabby. Most places will say they "have everything you need. " but this is really the case. The kitchen was fully stocked with anything you may need or think of. Everything was in reach. Delis gave quick access to groceries, shopping area, beach super accessible and very entertaining. I would definitely recommend Jen!!
My friends and I had a great experience spending Memorial Day weekend in Rockaway. The apartment was super cute, very clean, and nicely furnished. It is about a block away from the beach. Jen was great about communicating with us regarding our arrival time, internet access, and even whether or not the apartment had salt and pepper (it did)! The house is in great shape, but you can tell that others around it are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. The beach and new boardwalk were beautiful. It was hard to believe we were still in NYC. I would recommend this place to anyone.
The apartment itself is very nice. A great job has been done on the carpentry and furnishings. Jen and Joe were very accomodating to our last minute reservation. The neighborhood is a study in contrasts. Some of the properties are new or rebuilt and others are deteriorated. If you are used to Rockaway Beach, this is probably not news. The proximity to the beach, boardwalk, surfing beach, and NYC are a pretty great combo.
The place was clean, well located, and nice. They had a grill in the backyard, and when I left my power cords they offered to mail them to me. Highly recommended.
The apartment is nice and its very clean. Jen and Joe are very accommodating. Those who are not familir with New York the area may seem a little concerning, but they would be worrying about nothing. The area is safe and we had no issues while we were there. The apartment is near the ocean and if you are an early raiser it's a great place to go for a run or a walk.
