VICTORIAN SEASIDE RESORT * GOLF * BIRDWATCHING * CYCLING * RED SQUIRREL RESERVE * LIVERPOOL . . .
Hello and thanks for looking. We have two double rooms, this is the larger of the two:-
DOUBLE ROOM INCLUDES BREAKFAST.
It is light, quiet overlooking the back garden.
It has a chest of drawers, wardrobe and towels.
Tea, coffee and herbal drinking facilities.
BATHROOM & TOILET - please note that the house has one bathroom and one toilet and these facilities are shared but we always make sure that they are kept clean.
We can provide a COT if requested.
Please feel free to use the front sitting-room, the small secluded garden or join us in the back sitting-room to watch TV.
We live in a quiet residential area of the town.
BREAKFAST is something we really enjoy. We make our own natural yoghurt, seasonal jams including our delicious Seville marmalade, (made only once every year when the Seville oranges arrive!) There is always a delicious range of cereals and toasted breads, porridge and fruit, all accompanied with copious amounts of tea and real cafetiere-made fresh coffee!
There is ample street parking and we will try to ensure that the space in front of our house is vacant for you. We can also safety store your bicycles or place your motorbike in our enclosed back garden.
PUBS AND RESTAURANTS AT WALKING DISTANCE
There are two good restaurants nearby, BOTANIC BISTRO and CLAUDES OF CHURCHTOWN, very popular and you will need to pre-book. The pub HESKETH ARMS also offers good food & beers and (email hidden)ly atmosphere. There are many restaurants in the town centre.
Transport to and from here is excellent; 5 minutes walk to buses into town and 7 minutes to the train station to Wigan, Manchester and beyond. Southport is well served by the rail network going to Liverpool with further links nationwide. You can also hire a bicycle in the town centre, it's all flat and easy riding around this area with plenty to see.
WHY COME TO SOUTHPORT?
Southport is a well maintained Victorian seaside resort alongside a Promenade by a lakeside. This classic resort has beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture around the town. Well worth a visit is Lord Street, a tree-lined boulevard with many shops, the Wayfarer's Arcade and plenty of opportunities to sit outside whilst enjoying the many pavement cafes, traditional tea rooms and bars as well as many restaurants. You may want to visit the Inn Beer Shop, selling more than 360 different beers from around the world - a tidy, quirky, independent bar.
The town also has a very good SWIMMING POOL, CINEMAS, THEATRE, BOWLING.
A lovely place to walk, cycle or birdwatch but not to swim as the tide leaves behind vast expanses of sand and marshes. Stretching from Crosby in the south to Southport in the north, the natural coast is a beautiful expanse of beaches, Pinewoods and sand dunes. Southport beach is a short walk from the town centre.
The large marshes around Southport attract huge amounts of seasonal birds and we are very well provided for with many hides and areas for bird watching in Marshside, Martin Mere and Mere Sands Woods. The tranquil and picturesque forest and lakes of Mere Sands are very interesting and make an ideal place to walk, even if you are not a committed bird watcher.
Southport is known as England's Golfing Capital, most recently hosting the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. There are 15 top courses which are no more than an hour's drive away and six of them are actually on Southport's doorstep.
CHURCHTOWN VILLAGE is a 10 minute walk away having the great Hesketh Pub, restaurants, quaint shops and antiques. Spend an afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, listening to the Summer Band Concerts.
TRANS PENNINE TRAIL CYCLE ROUTE
Parts of the trail that can be found in this area are the Liverpool Loop Line and Cheshire Line. The beginning of the trail starts at the sea mark sculpture in Southport. The trail then forms a 350 mile national route and runs coast to coast. There are also other local trails for walking and cycling with clear leaflet guides to help you.
There are BIKES FOR HIRE in the town centre.
EVEN MORE REASONS TO STAY HERE
RUFFORD HALL is just a short drive away, situated on part of the beautiful Leeds to Liverpool canal. Then there's the home of the GRAND NATIONAL - Aintree Racecourse, and also nearby is the atmospheric and ever-changing art installation on the beach entitled 'Another Place' by ANTONY GORMLEY. CHESTER and WIGAN PIER ARE also very accessible by car or train.
LIVERPOOL - Some 40 minutes by train, a must see city. It is much easier to leave the car here and travel in by train. After winning the 'City of Culture' it has been transformed into a more sophisticated, stylish, diverse and interesting city offering everything from museums, galleries, all modern shops and some interesting independent designers and of course, THE BEATLES and FOOTBALL.
Front sitting-room with a number of books and CD player, great space to relax, read, catch up with your emails.
The back garden has chairs and in sunny days our guests love to have breakfast outside.
We will normally be around, although there is tea and coffee facilities in your room we would offer you drinks on your arrival and would enjoy sitting for a chat.
It is very quiet, close to the town centre and close to Churchtown village. There are two parks close by, The Botanic Gardens and Hesketh Park.
The bus service is only 2 minutes walk away. There is a train station 5 minutes walk, the trains run from Southport to Manchester city, Machester Airport via Wigan.
Trains to Liverpool are every 15 minutes and take only 45 minutes. The line goes as far as Liverpool airport with a short bus connection.
Both Dorothy and John welcomed us in to their fantastic home. We were made to feel very welcome and had a chat over a cup of tea before heading off to our wedding. The room was excellent and our first air bnb experience was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic with home made yoghurt and jams. John then gave us a lift back to where we left our car at the wedding venue. Thank you for a lovely stay.
It has been a very nice experience again to stay with family Turner. They are lovely and honest people, very willing to help and make you feel like at home. Their house is very tidy and cozy with a nice garden in a friendly and very quiet neighborhood. Excellent for relax.
Lovely to meet Dorothy and John who were very welcoming. The house was lovely and the home made preserves and yogurt for breakfast was fantastic, i loved the healthy alternatives supplied, as opposed to full english. The room was clean and comfortable and after 2 nights in the centre of Liverpool it was so peaceful here.
Dorothy and her husband are PERFECT hosts in every way. They are open, welcoming, kind and friendly. The listing is spot on. The bed was incredibly comfy (in fact I want to buy one for home too!) and the breakfast was seriously DELICIOUS!!!!!! The facilities are spotlessly clean. Great shower. Everything was perfect in every way. The best AirBNB stay we have had to date.
We had a great stay at Dorothy and John's house. They were very friendly and accommodating hosts. The house is beautiful and very clean. The bed was so comfortable and the breakfast was delicious, I loved the homemade yoghurt and fresh fruit. It is in a very quiet and residential neighbourhood. I would definitely recommend to stay here. Thanks again.
It was a great stay over at Dorothy's. I felt really welcomed by the couple. They served great breakfast with handmade jams and yogurt! The room is very spacious and clean. Their house is very beautifully decorated. Overall, I loved my time in Southport and Liverpool and the accommodation was icing on the cake for me.
Everything about Dorothy's place is brilliant. Best night sleep in ages! Will be staying again if needed. Cheers.
I was visiting Southport for a weekend event and Dorothy's place was available. Booking was easy once I decided to get in touch, completed on the same day I first got in touch. The event was at a Hotel on Lord Street and rather than staying at the hotel which had limited parking I chose to stay at Dorothy's. The house and both Dorothy and John are what make Airbnb so great. They made me feel right at home.
To get to the hotel I used various methods over the weekend. I tried the car in the evening as parking was free after 6pm, the bus during the day (£4.20 return or £2.20 single) and on one occasion tried the walk! The bus #49 is frequent during the day every 12 mins & takes 10 mins. Walking the 2 miles to town took about 25 mins.
Room is spacious and the bed really comfortable - with heating (unlike the hotel as it turned out!). The shower was electric and also very pleasant.
John was up every morning to lay out a super spread for breakfast of cereals, muesli, yoghurt and toast with home made jams. I was always well fed!
Yet again, another great Airbnb experience :)
Dorothy and her husband are delightful, very welcoming hosts. They have a lovely home in a quiet, attractive neighbourhood and the room was perfect (especially the complimentary biscuits). The breakfast was outstanding, with fresh fruit and delicious home made preserves. Highly recommended.
I had a wonderful week's stay with John and Dorothy in Stockport. This was my first airbnb experience and perhaps it was beginner's luck but I could not have asked for anything more. Delightful and warm couple who were genuinely interested in hosting and helping their guests get the most from their stay. The room was perfect, comfortable bed, peaceful location and much appreciated tea and biscuits. Breakfast was delicious, and inspired me to perhaps try making my own yoghourt and marmalade! The location of John and Dorothy's lovely home is also ideal and I very much enjoyed seeing more of Southport and the surrounding area.
