Hello and thanks for looking. We have two rooms, this is the smaller:-
SMALL DOUBLE ROOM INCLUDES BREAKFAST.
It is light, quiet and overlooks the back garden.
There is tea, coffee, herbal drinking facilities and towels
BATHROOM & TOILET - please note that the house has one bathroom and one toilet and these facilities are shared but we always make sure that they are kept clean. There is shampoo, shower gel and toiletries.
We live in a quiet residential area of the town.
BREAKFAST is something we really enjoy. We make our own natural yoghurt, seasonal jams including our delicious Seville marmalade, (made only once every year when the Seville oranges arrive!) There is always a delicious range of cereals and toasted bread and fruit, all accompanied with copious amounts of tea and real cafetiere-made fresh coffee! Let us know if you would like some freshly made porridge.
We cater for vegetarians, gluten free and lactose free requirements. Just let us know when you book, please.
There is ample street parking and we will try to ensure that the space in front of our house is vacant for you. We can also safety store your bicycles or place your motorbike in our enclosed back garden.
PUBS AND RESTAURANTS AT WALKING DISTANCE
There are two good restaurants nearby, THE GRAPEVINE and CLAUDES OF CHURCHTOWN, very popular and you will need to pre-book. The HESKETH ARMS PUB also offers good food & beers and has a lively atmosphere. There are many good restaurants in the town centre that we can recommend.
Transport to and from here is excellent; 5 minutes walk to buses into town and 7 minutes to the train station to Wigan, Manchester, the famous Lake District and beyond. Southport is well served by the rail network going to Liverpool with further links nationwide. Bikes can be transported by train and you can also hire a bicycle very cheaply for about £4 a day in the town centre, it's all flat and easy riding around this area with plenty to see.
WHY COME TO SOUTHPORT?
Southport is a well maintained Victorian seaside resort alongside a Promenade by a lakeside. This classic resort has beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture around the town. Well worth a visit is Lord Street, a tree-lined boulevard with many shops and with the newly redesigned Atkinson Arts Centre, the Wayfarer's Arcade. There are plenty of opportunities to sit outside enjoying the many pavement cafes, traditional tea rooms and restaurants. You may want to visit the Inn Beer Shop, selling more than 360 different beers from around the world - a tiny, quirky, independent bar.
The town also has a very good SWIMMING POOL, CINEMA COMPLEX, THEATRES, BOWLING.
A lovely place to walk, cycle or birdwatch but not to swim as the tide leaves behind vast expanses of sand and marshes. Stretching from Crosby in the south to Southport in the north, the natural coast is a beautiful expanse of beaches, pinewoods and sand dunes. Southport beach is a short walk from the town centre.
The large marshes around Southport attract huge amounts of seasonal birds and we are very well provided for with many hides and areas for bird watching in Marshside, MARTIN MERE and MERE SANDS NATURE RESERVE. The tranquil and picturesque forest and lakes of Mere Sands are very interesting and make an ideal place to walk, even if you are not a committed bird watcher.
Southport is known as England's Golfing Capital, most recently hosting the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. There are 15 top courses which are no more than an hour's drive away and six of them are actually on Southport's doorstep.
CHURCHTOWN VILLAGE is a 10 minute walk away having the great Hesketh Pub, restaurants, quaint shops and antiques. Spend an afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, listening to the Summer Band Concerts.
TRANS PENNINE TRAIL CYCLE ROUTE
The beginning of the trail starts at the sea mark sculpture in Southport. The trail then forms a 215 mile national route and runs from coast to coast. There are also other local trails for walking and cycling with clear leaflet guides to help you.
There are BIKES FOR HIRE in the town centre.

We had such a great time staying with Dorothy and John! They were both fantastic hosts, and their home is really clean, bright and well-decorated.
We booked the smaller of their two rooms but because there was no one else staying they offered us the larger room, which was a really nice way to start the stay. The breakfasts each morning were superb, and we loved getting to try all of their homemade jams.
We had a full itinerary so we were out a lot of the time, but it was really easy to come and go.
We would definitely stay here again.
De passage pour une seule nuit, nous (mon fils & moi) avons été très bien accueilli par Dorothy et John. La chambre est petite, mais très agréable et lumineuse. Bon petit déjeuner copieux avant de reprendre la route!
Nice place, lovely breakfast, great bed and bathroom, bedroom is tiny though and with two people it's a bit crampy. Great tips for restaurants, but to be honest, the neighbourhood is very residential and a bit dull.
Before Tara's visit, we have had about 60 or so airbnb guests stay in our smaller room and all of them have been content with our description of the room as "small" and they have all left completely positive reviews of their (website hidden) our neighbourhood, we live in a quiet, residential area of Southport, there is architectural variety, plenty of well tended front gardens with different trees, shrubs and flowers, two nice pubs, shops and two public parks nearby. Were Tara's comments accurate, or even necessary? You decide.
We had a great time in Southport staying with Dorothy and John. They greeted us with tea and biscuits and gave an overview of the town - then helped us plan our next few days!
Very clean and beautiful house close to town and shops with a great breakfast. Would easily stay again.
John & Kat
Dorothy was very welcoming and friendly - within minutes of arriving I had a cuppa in my hand and was chatting with her in her kitchen! Other guests staying wanted to go out for dinner with me, so Dorothy hooked us up, and we went off into Southport together - lovely to spend time with other travellers.
Dorothy even offered to lend me her bike so that I could explore Southport, and she gave me a lift to the conference I was attending - this additional touch was gratefully appreciated.
The room was clean and tidy, with a drinks tray and a container with lovely chocolate digestives.
I would recommend anyone visiting Southport to stay with Dorothy and John. This was my first airbnb experience and I would recommend it to others.
Enjoyed our 1 night stay. Dorothy was very welcoming and was accommodating to our particular needs. Would happily stay again. :-)
Once again, I was delighted by the service that Dorothy and John gave me for my two night stay. They were very flexible and accomadating. I enjoy staying with them when I visit a relative in Southport.

About the Host, Dorothy
I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I enjoy family the most, friends, fell walking, reading, jazz, theatre and (website hidden) and entertaining go hand-in-hand. Travelling is my great life enhancer and hope to do much more of it as I browse at the many amazing Airbnb places around the world. Alas, my bones creak and protest too much. We no longer have pets and we don't smoke. We have two grown-up girls no longer living with us; so it is lovely to have guests.
John is a retired art and design teacher and he also enjoys hosting and getting to know the guests that come to us from around the world.
