BATHROOM & TOILET - please note that the house has one bathroom and one toilet and these facilities are shared but we always make sure that they are kept clean. There is shampoo, shower gel and toiletries.
We live in a quiet residential area of the town.
BREAKFAST is something we really enjoy. We make our own natural yoghurt, seasonal jams including our delicious Seville marmalade, (made only once every year when the Seville oranges arrive!) There is always a delicious range of cereals and toasted bread and fruit, all accompanied with copious amounts of tea and real cafetiere-made fresh coffee! Let us know if you would like some freshly made porridge.
We cater for vegetarians, gluten free and lactose free requirements. Just let us know when you book, please.
There is ample street parking and we will try to ensure that the space in front of our house is vacant for you. We can also safety store your bicycles or place your motorbike in our enclosed back garden.
PUBS AND RESTAURANTS AT WALKING DISTANCE
There are two good restaurants nearby, THE GRAPEVINE and CLAUDES OF CHURCHTOWN, very popular and you will need to pre-book. The HESKETH ARMS PUB also offers good food & beers and has a lively atmosphere. There are many good restaurants in the town centre that we can recommend.
Transport to and from here is excellent; 5 minutes walk to buses into town and 7 minutes to the train station to Wigan, Manchester, the famous Lake District and beyond. Southport is well served by the rail network going to Liverpool with further links nationwide. Bikes can be transported by train and you can also hire a bicycle very cheaply for about £4 a day in the town centre, it's all flat and easy riding around this area with plenty to see.
WHY COME TO SOUTHPORT?
Southport is a well maintained Victorian seaside resort alongside a Promenade by a lakeside. This classic resort has beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture around the town. Well worth a visit is Lord Street, a tree-lined boulevard with many shops and with the newly redesigned Atkinson Arts Centre, the Wayfarer's Arcade. There are plenty of opportunities to sit outside enjoying the many pavement cafes, traditional tea rooms and restaurants. You may want to visit the Inn Beer Shop, selling more than 360 different beers from around the world - a tiny, quirky, independent bar.
The town also has a very good SWIMMING POOL, CINEMA COMPLEX, THEATRES, BOWLING.
A lovely place to walk, cycle or birdwatch but not to swim as the tide leaves behind vast expanses of sand and marshes. Stretching from Crosby in the south to Southport in the north, the natural coast is a beautiful expanse of beaches, pinewoods and sand dunes. Southport beach is a short walk from the town centre.
The large marshes around Southport attract huge amounts of seasonal birds and we are very well provided for with many hides and areas for bird watching in Marshside, MARTIN MERE and MERE SANDS NATURE RESERVE. The tranquil and picturesque forest and lakes of Mere Sands are very interesting and make an ideal place to walk, even if you are not a committed bird watcher.
Southport is known as England's Golfing Capital, most recently hosting the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. There are 15 top courses which are no more than an hour's drive away and six of them are actually on Southport's doorstep.
CHURCHTOWN VILLAGE is a 10 minute walk away having the great Hesketh Pub, restaurants, quaint shops and antiques. Spend an afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, listening to the Summer Band Concerts.
TRANS PENNINE TRAIL CYCLE ROUTE
The beginning of the trail starts at the sea mark sculpture in Southport. The trail then forms a 215 mile national route and runs from coast to coast. There are also other local trails for walking and cycling with clear leaflet guides to help you.
There are BIKES FOR HIRE in the town centre.

Dorothy and John were excellent hosts. They were very friendly and helpful and it felt like "home away from home". The accommodation was warm & comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was fantastic with homemade jams, yogurt, cereal, great toast & coffee.I would highly recommend staying with Dorothy & John.Their house was in an excellent location.
Tea and biscuits on arrival and john and Dorothy were eager to make your stay enjoyable with any info to help you
Dorothy and her husband John could not have made me more welcome. From the emails before I arrived, checking my arrangements, to being picked up at the station. John had researched the 2 buses I needed to take to get to where I was working, and showed me the routes, and where to catch them. The room and shared bathroom were spotless, in a beautiful house. The neighbourhood is quiet, with large stately houses that would cost millions in London. They even gave me a glass of wine! I could not recommend them more highly.
Dorothy et John sont des hôtes charmants et très à l'écoute, nous ont parfaitement renseignés et guidés à propos des restaurants et sites à visiter.
Quartier et maison très agréables.
Petit déjeuner parfait.
A warm welcome from a friendly couple Dorothy and John. Their home is a peaceful environment, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ace with a big bowl of fruit salad, homemade yogurt, selection of cereals and homemade jams. John and Dorothy were very knowledgable about the local area and they are happy to share their experiences with others. Would certainly recommend this location.
We were made to feel extremely welcome! Dorothy and John couldn't do enough for for us... two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. A beautiful home in a lovely neighbourhood. Would highly recommend to anyone in a heartbeat! Thank you both so much!!
John and Dorothy made me feel so welcome! This was my first Airbnb ever and I must confess I think it will be a hard one to top! I had to come over for an urgent personal matter and from the moment I arrived I knew I had chosen the right place to stay! John picked me up from the train station and gave me a tour of Southport then took me to the house. When I arrived John showed me around and could not have been more helpful. I was given information on bus routes, local eating places, taxis and other areas of interest, all with a warm human approach! Due to the nature of my visit I was not able to spend as much time with my hosts as I would have liked but the time I did spend with them was a delight. I met Dorothy the second day of my stay and she was as pleasent and welcoming as John. Breakfast was a real feast! I felt like a king! It must be commended that John and Dorothy made the stay so refreshing and so relaxing. I arrived expecting to leave with memories of great hosts, I left with memories of new friends made!

About the Host, Dorothy
I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I enjoy family the most, friends, fell walking, reading, jazz, theatre and (website hidden) and entertaining go hand-in-hand. Travelling is my great life enhancer and hope to do much more of it as I browse at the many amazing Airbnb places around the world. Alas, my bones creak and protest too much. We no longer have pets and we don't smoke. We have two grown-up girls no longer living with us; so it is lovely to have guests.
John is a retired art and design teacher and he also enjoys hosting and getting to know the guests that come to us from around the world.
