Darlo Loft / Warehouse Apartment

Loft - Entire home/apt · Crown Street, Darlinghurst, NSW 2010, Australia

Open plan warehouse apartment in the heart of Sydney's coolest neighbourhood.

The Space

My apartment is a beautiful, simple, open plan / one bedroom loft with soaring high ceilings and hardwood floors that hint at it's previous life as a printing factory in the 1940s. It has huge windows that flood the space with glorious sunshine throughout the day and provide a refreshing breeze during summer. A few key features:
* Fully furnished with nice stuff, including a comfy queen sized bed and some great artworks by local illustrators and designers
* Free WiFi internet internet
* Wireless harman/kardon aura stereo system so you can stream your music wirelessly from any iOS/android or bluetooth enabled device (iphone, ipad, most android phones, tablets, laptops etc)
* Internal laundry with washer and dryer
* The kitchen is fully equipped with gas cooking, microwave, a dishwasher and all the utensils, pots and pans you need
* All the essentials are included (so you can travel light): fresh towels, sheets, an iron and a hair dryer

Feel free to drop me a line and ask any questions.

Guest Access

The whole apartment is yours to enjoy! Depending on whether there is another guest checking in or out the same day, I can be flexible about check-in/out times.

Interaction with Guests

Most often, I will personally greet guests to hand over the keys. Once checked-in, I leave guests to make themselves at home but am very happy to share tips on local places to eat / drink / play / explore.

The Neighborhood

Darlinghurst is home to some of Sydney's best restaurants, coffee and designers. The apartment is located on the corner of two iconic streets (Crown St and Stanley St) - famous for eateries, bars, boutiques and galleries. It's also a very short walk through beautiful Hyde Park to the centre of Sydney city and is an easy stroll to Sydney's other equally awesome neighbourhoods, including the creative precincts of Surry Hills and Sydney's "mini Manhattan": Potts Point. With Sydney's museums, the Royal Botanic Gardens and other harbourside parks all within walking distance, the apartment really offers the ideal base to explore from.

A few location highlights:
* There are loads of fantastic restaurants and cafes located on the same street as the apartment - literally footsteps from the front door
* Some of Sydney's coolest wine and cocktail bars are hidden in the laneways surrounding the apartment building, including Love Tilly Devine, Kubrick's, Pocket, Shady Pines and more...you won't need to budget for cabs when you are this close
* A few blocks away is Oxford St - home to Sydney's annual LGBTI Mardi Gras parade and nightlife
* There is a supermarket one block from the apartment open til midnight, 7 days a week as well as a convenience store located right across the road from the building, open til late every day
* A weekly farmer's market at Taylor Square every Saturday brings the best organic local produce to your doorstep

Getting around

With many eateries, bars and attractions all within walking distance, most guests find they don't require a car and rarely resort to taxis. There are plenty of public transport options that make exploring further afield a breeze. The apartment is a short (7 minute) walk from Museum and Kings Cross train stations, making it super easy to directly access the airport and wider Sydney (as many different lines pass through these two stations). There is also a bus stop out the front of the apartment that provides quick and direct access to Circular Quay (the Opera House - though this is also a walkable distance) and Bondi Beach. The Central Business District is easily accessed on foot through Hyde Park in 5-10minutes.

Other Things to Note

There is no TV. But free wifi and a great bookshelf of literary delights to keep you entertained (if the amazing restaurants, bars and galleries leave you needing some down time).

While Darlinghurst is one of Sydney's more bustling neighbourhoods, the apartment is located at the rear of the building and so enjoys a relatively quiet position.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Beautiful apartment (should be in a design magazine!) in a great location in Sydney! Atari is also a great and accommodating host--could not have asked for a better experience.

  • Atari is a very good host. He did everything possibly to make his guests have a wonderful stay. The place is very clean and tidy. It's very spacious and very convenient, walking distance to town. I really enjoyed the stay at his apartment. It's such an amazing experience for an airbnb first timer. Thank you very much! :)

    November 2012
  • I stayed in Atari's apartment for ten days in November. It was my first Airbnb experience and it was fantastic. I couldn't believe the value I was getting for the price I was paying. The apartment was in such a convenient location, it was beautiful and clean, and the free wireless internet was a godsend as I needed to be connected to my email constantly for work. Atari was very easy to communicate with, friendly and very helpful - going above and beyond the call of duty, pointing out the nearest best coffee! Great experience. Very happy customer!

  • The place is nice, but you might want to stay here just because Atari is a great host and will make everything extremely easy for you. He truly did everything possible to accommodate us.
The place is in a great location. There is a bus to Bondi that stops right in front of the apartment. It's really close to George St and there are several nice restaurants around. There is a laundry and dryer in the apartment and also a dishwasher.
The apartment is nice but not as nice as you might think based on the pictures. The building is an old warehouse and looks and smells like one. Someone smokes in the corridor outside the apartment and, although the smell never got into the apartment, you could smell it once you leave it. These are the only negative points.
Frankly, I don't think that you can find a better deal in Sydney.

    March 2011
  • thank you very much. we really enjoy Sydney :)

    January 2011
  • The apartment was modern, clean and comfortable. Instructions were professional and easy to follow. Atari provided many great food/bar suggestions, including making several food guides available! Would stay here again without question!

  • Great apartment in a great location. Easy to get to everything and plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area. The apartment is spacious and airy. I would definitely rent this again.

  • To all who choose this location - we can recommend this apartment without hesitation.
It is small but very functional - comfortable - light and airy.
Across the road, is a great selection of cafes, and for the coffee lovers - you must try Bill and Tony's - excellent coffee!
Transport to the city and beyond is also close by - bus stop is just down Stanley st and the stations of Museum and Kingscross a 5min walk away.
There is no TV - but you will be across the road at one of the 10 cafes/bars - so it wont be a problem.
Car parking is non -existent - again you wont mind, as the public transport system is almost at your door-step - buy a 1 week multi pass, cost $41 for ferries - trains - buses!!

    Enjoy Darlinghurst - we did.

  • Atari ensured we had a really enjoyable stay. He met us to hand over the keys at a time convenient to us and explained everything about the apartment and the local area.
The location is excellent and we were able to walk easily to Surry Hills, CBD, Potts Point etc.
    Highly recommended.

Health research
Curious about the world and full of wanderlust. By day I work in research for a non-profit health organisation and do some teaching in public health on the side. I spend my spare time biking, swimming and volunteering with a bunch of other health organisations and community arts projects. As a traveller, I seek out experiences that offer me a glimpse into what local life is like in the places I visit. As a host, I love helping people discover beautiful Sydney and meeting people from all over the world.
