Venice Palazzo true venetian area

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Sestiere Giudecca, Venice, Veneto 30133, Italy

Newly renovated apartment in venetian Palazzo. Second floor with elevator, 120 M2, living + two large bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom. Very sunny, high ceilings (4.2 meters), fully furnished.

The Space

The Giudecca Island is located only a few minutes drive by Vaporetto (waterbus) from Saint Mark’s Square in the south of Venice. There are many reasons not to miss out a trip to this island when visiting Venice. One of the main reasons is obvious – it provides the most famous view over the entire city. Nowhere else will one obtain such a view over Doge’s Palace, Saint Mark’s Square, the votive church Santa Maria della Salute and the entrance to the Grand Canal.

Once one has satisfied their appetite and seen enough of the first reason one can turn their back on the Bacino and explore the island itself. It is small – measuring only approximately two kilometres in length and some 300 metres in width. For this manageable area La Giudecca has amazing things to offer and aside from this it has often featured in German literature. The most impressive building on the island is without doubt the ‘Il Redentore’ (Church of the most holy Redeemeer). The architect of this balanced structure is no other than Andrea Palladio who began its construction in the 16th Century. Just like the church – Santa Maria della Salute that lies opposite, ‘Il Redentore’ is also a votive church that marked the end of a plague epidemic. In addition on La Giudecca one will find ‘Sant Eufemia’ – one of the oldest churches in Venice that dates back to the 9th century. The third of the sacral churches is the ‘Chiesa delle Zitelle’.

The Neighborhood

The Giudecca was historically an area of large palaces with gardens, the island became an industrial area in the early twentieth century with shipyards and factories in addition to a film studio. Much of the industry went into decline after World War II, but it is now once more regarded as an exclusive residential area. It is known for its long dock and its churches, including Il Redentore.

  • Just had three days in Marc's apartment. Very welcoming and accommodating hosts - they were happy for us to check in early and stay until our flight time. Would recommend staying in Giudecca- very restful after the crowds of Venice.

  • We stayed with four people in this apartment on the Giudecca Canal, and it really suited our wishes. Two spacious bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen with space to eat that allows for pleasantly cooking and dining at home. All rooms have a great height of about 4,5m.

The front door of the palazzo is right on the Canal of Giudecca, just a few meters from the Palanca vaporetto stop and surrounded by osterias and shops like a bakery and vegetable shop and cafés. Giudecca itself is pleasantly 'off' the mainsteam of tourism in Venice. For that reason we looked for an apartment in this part of town.

The apartment is probably not the most luxurious and slick that one can find, but it suited us perfecly during the four nights and days of our stay, and it has a good price-quality value. If we plan to return to Venice, we'll definitely check whether its available again.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this spacious apartment. The bed was comfortable, the rooms were filled with all sorts of wonderfully eclectic treasures, and the place reeked of history. It was nice to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main city, yet we were only 5 minutes away by vaparetto . The two restaurants just outside our front door were both excellent and we enjoyed watching the boats go by as we ate. Our hosts bent over backwards to ensure everything was perfect for us. We would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Dans un quartier très agréable, moins touristique, l'appartement est idéalement situé, en face d'un arrêt de vaporetto.
Ville maginifique, à refaire plusieurs fois.

  • I lived in this apartment for six weeks. The location is fabulous - literally just steps from the Palanco vaparetto station, and a quick trip across the Giudecca canal puts you on the main island. It is close to restaurants, grocery shopping, and pharmacies.

Marc and his parents were very helpful in setting me up with a local aircard so that I had internet in the apartment. There were a few small issues with the apartment which they responded to and resolved quickly.

The apartment is in a historical building (the Accademi de Nobili) and was built in 1619. It fronts to the canal and there are awesome views across to the main island, though the apartment is in the rear, which prevents noise from the Fondemente (sidewalk along the canal) from being an issue.

The kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals, which can be a real money-saving strategy. There are two supermarkets on the island and a nice rolling cart is available to make it easier to transport your groceries home. There is also an elevator, which makes it easy to get your luggage and groceries into the apartment.

The only down-sides for me was that there seemed to be some problems with some of the electrical outlets, and the apartment did not have air conditioning. Since I was there in the hot and humid summer months, my stay would have been more comfortable if there had been A/C, but I tend to be very sensitive to heat and humidy - if you are not, this may not be an issue.

I felt like a true Venetian while living in this apartment - I was able to cook, do laundry, and have a nice-sized refridgerator to keep my food costs down. For the most part it was quiet, through there is a restaurant next door and one bedroom overlooks the garden seating area. But they always shut down by 11 PM.

Now that I am home, I miss "my" (website hidden), and I'm already thinking about when I might be able to go back for another long stay!

I would highly recommend this apartment to travelers who plan longer stays and can take advantage of the kitchen and the washing machine, or larger groups who don't mind sharing one bathroom - you could easily have three couples staying here and each have a room with a door.

  • The appartment is perfectly situated for a trip to Venice - very close to the main attractions. The fact that Giudecca is not that crowded with tourists made our stay even more pleasant.
To put it in a nutshell: recommended insider tip for a trip to Venice!

  • Marc has been extremely helpful in the whole process, and it was a very good experience for us. Marc called several times to check if everything is ok, great host.

The appartment is not new anymore - the photos are representing this correctly - but very clean. Marc even provided a starter kit for breakfast etc.

The area seems to be on the "rising side" of Venice (i.e. becoming more and more interesting through renovation of old industrial sites) - some very good restaurants and two top hotels nearby on the waterfront.
