High end duplex, fully renovated, quiet, sunny, spacious. Fully furnished with luxury fittings, southerly view on a calm canal. All amenities available in the apartment and surrounding area

The Space

The apartment is a luxury duplex in early gothic Palazzo. The apartment has been fully renovated, with respect to its original colors, style and materials. You will find that it is an extremely pleasant stay, because it is quiet, very sunny, spacious: the apartment measures 140 sqm (1506 square feet). There are three confortable bedrooms, a large, fully functional, nicely equipped modern kitchen, three bathrooms and large living room. The living room has a fireplace. the apartment is fully furnished with all necessary conforts, and has a southerly view on a calm canal. All amenities are available: 41 inches LCD TV, Bose sound system with DVD, Internet access with Wi-Fi, A/C. I just purchased a very comfortable, modern couch from the famous italian design brand "Living" - you will find it quite amazing.

The area of Cannaregio is very venetian, all shops are in the vicinities: market, butcher, groceries, fish, bars, restaurants, banks, supermarket, pharmacies, all within a 200/400 meters radius. The apartment accomodates up to 6 people.

Cannaregio is the northernmost of the six historic sestieri (districts) of Venice. It is the second largest sestiere by land area and the largest by population,

The Cannaregio Canal , which was the main route into the city until the construction of a railway link to the mainland, gave the district its name. Development began in the eleventh century as the area was drained and parallel canals were dredged. Although elegant palazzos were built facing the Grand Canal, the area grew primarily with working class housing and manufacturing. The history of the Ghetto of Venice is particuarly fascinating. When on March 29th, 1516 the Government of the Serenissima Repubblica issued special laws, the first Ghetto of Europe was instituted. It was an area where Jews were forced to live and which they could not leave from sunset to dawn. The area was closed by gates watched by guards and up till now the marks of the hinges are visible there. Jews were allowed to practice only some professions: they were doctors, because they were the most prepared and able to understand Arab writings, money lenders, because Catholic religion forbade this practice, merchants and "strazzarioli", ragsellers. However, Jews held successful positions in the city such as merchants, physicians, money lenders, and other trades. The Ghetto existed for more than two and a half centuries, until Napoleon conquered Venice and finally opened and eliminated every gate (1797): Jews were finally free to live in other areas of the city.

In the 19th century, civil engineers built a street named Strada Nuova through Cannaregio, and a railway bridge and road bridge were constructed to connect Venice directly to Mestre. Today, the areas of the district along the Grand Canal from the train station to the Rialto Bridge are packed with tourists, but the rest of Cannaregio is residential and relatively peaceful, with morning markets, neighborhood shops, and small cafés.

  • My friends and I stayed for 4 nights at Marc's Venetian apartment. Our whole stay was fantastic. The apartment itself is spacious and full of character. The location was perfect, in a very quiet area of Venice with lots of local bars and restaurants yet within easy walking distance to the tourist centre of town.

Would definitely return! Perfect place to stay for a group of between 3 and 6

  • This was a great venue for me to host my family on a special birthday vacation. Marc and his Father were charming to deal with, and showed great kindness in their willingness to help organise and go that little bit extra to ensure the success of our vacation. Although only "two canals" up from the grand canal.....you might as well be in another world. I suppose you don't go to Venice for peace and quiet...but.... you really do appreciate getting back to your own bit of sanity, to enable reflection on the countless wonders you have just witnessed, in the company of real Venetians.
Many thanks and best wishes for the future.

  • The place is spectacular, I highly recommend it. Cannaregio area is the top place to stay to be away from the tourists and get to know real Venice.

  • Brilliant flat, super location - loved it. Had been to Venice only in winter before so surprised by the number of tourists in April. Marc's place was a haven away from the hustle. Host very generous supplying food and beverages. Very good restaurants nearby.

  • After much comparison, we were delighted to have selected Marc's Venetian apartment that was perfect for our family of 4 teenagers. Highlights: Space, room layout, historical building, well designed bathrooms and kitchen, familiar Asian furnishings, views from the windows, and non-touristy neighborhood. Above all, Marc is prompt and detail-oriented in all communications, and he even went beyond call of service to manage delivery of our iPad that we inadvertently left behind. We also enjoyed meeting his father who was the architect in the renovaton of the apartment. We miss the apartment, even the delicious bowl of blood oranges! The timing was particularly fun with festivities of Carnival and many weather changes from sunshine, snow, and fog. Highly recommend.

  • It says it all when more of our friends "liked" the photos we posted of Marc's apartment than all our photos of Venice!

First of all Marc was great in terms of communicating prior to our arrival and gave very helpful information about transportation and local restaurants. He was there when we arrived and gave us a very detailed orientation of the apartment. The apartment was in a great location - off the main tourist track which we really came to appreciate but it was an easy walk to everywhere and there was a vaporetto stop nearby as well. Very comfortable and spacious apartment and our entire family of 6 adults really loved it.

  • Great apartment which really lives up to the pictures on the web site with loads of space. Easily accessible by foot from everywhere in the city and easy to find from the station or bus station. Vaporetto from S Alvise very close too. Local shops and restaurants provide lots of choice. The apartment has everything you need from breakfast supplies, WiFi, wellies, umbrellas and great views onto the canal. We were a party of 5 adults and we would definitely recommend the apartment & Marc to anyone. October 2012

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Venice. The apartment was located within walking distance to the main train station. It was artistically decorated, quality fittings and bathrooms. The area was quiet and within walking distance to the Ghetto area and many restaurants including one directly below the apartment.

The host was excellent, easy going and treated us with respect. He even had fresh fruit on the meal tables and beer in the fridge,

    Pro's
Large, quality fittings, great location, excellent appliances, air conditioned, quiet.

    Cons,
    Nothing of significance.

Well suited to us as 2 married couples traveling.
