We *LOVE* hosting Airbnb guests - making friends from around the world, and close to home. Whether you opt to stay with us, or elsewhere, I'm confident you'll enjoy your trip to the stunning Monterey Peninsula.
We're on the MST bus line, so if you'd rather not drive, the #1 express stops right outside our gates at :21 after the hour until 7pm. Additionally, we have a couple of local cab services and I believe we also have Uber available.
You should know a couple things....
1. We live in the main house full-time, and have a dog. Though our dog does not go in the guest cottage, if you suffer from pet allergies you should know that a dog does roam the yard from time to time, and there might have been a guest pup in the cottage prior to your reservation. Though we do clean the cottage thoroughly between guests, it is certainly likely that allergens could still be present.
2. Additionally, you should know that approximately once per week (usually Thursdays or Fridays) we have our weekly yard service. Sometimes the maintenance is relatively quiet (raking, trimming, etc.) and sometimes the situation is far more noisy (leaf blowers, weed whackers, fence repair, and the like). Most guests haven't minded, but someone mentioned it recently and we figured going forward, our guests should know what to expect.
3. Finally.... Our calendar is updated daily and is indeed accurate. If the dates you want are not available it is because they're already booked by another guest. I'm not sure how everyone plans so far in advance, but it is not unusual for us to be booked 6 months in advance.
You're welcome to the cottage and the private patio.
Interaction with Guests
We are typically available for assistance should you need anything (and we're happy to help you make the most of your time here with recommendations), however, there are occasions where we might not be in town. Generally, we have a caretaker in the main house if we are not going to be present, should anything go awry. We always let guests know ahead of time when we won't be in town, and we're generally reachable by phone/email/text regardless.
Hands down, the best part about our 'hood is the proximity to the ocean. You can (usually) hear it, and smell it from our house, and see its amazing beauty within a brief walk. On a clear night, the sunsets are breathtaking.
We're on the MST bus line, so if you'd rather not drive, the #1 express stops right outside our gates at :21 after the hour until 7pm. Uber and taxis are also available. The walk to Pacific Grove's downtown area takes approximately 20 minutes.
Other Things to Note
If you look through the reviews and notice that we cancelled on some of our guests during the fall of 2015, here's why: Our recent renovation on our main house took FAR longer to complete than originally anticipated. We let scheduled guests know of the situation in advance, and gave them an option to cancel, or receive a discounted stay. For those that opted to cancel, we felt it was only fair to cancel on their behalf, incurring fees on our end as a result. This is because Airbnb doesn't refund their "service fees" when a guest cancels their own reservation, they only receive a FULL refund if the host makes the cancellation. In any case, prior to our home renovation, we have never cancelled on our guests, and don't plan to in the future! It was an unfortunate set of circumstances and we handled it the best we could.
• Check-in time is 3PM.
• No parties or events
• No smoking
No smoking (even outside) - living in California, we often have doors/windows open and don't want our home to smell like cigarettes.
Please keep noise levels respectful - we are located in a (mostly) peaceful residential neighborhood where the main source of noise is the crashing of the surf!
We're a mid-thirties couple that loves to hit the road. While we adore international adventures, we also regularly road trip throughout the beautiful west. Our last notable adventure was Brazil, and our next "big" trip will likely be to either Eastern Europe or to Australia/New Zealand. We have a new addition to our posse (baby Millie) and look forward to exploring the world through her eyes.
Our interests include cooking/dining, nature, travel, animals, wine, hiking, kayaking, and we're big fans of the tv shows Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Top Chef.
We moved to the Monterey Peninsula from Portland Oregon in the fall of '09 and haven't looked back. (Okay, we admit, we REALLY miss the interesting assortment of people, and the incredible restaurants + fabulous food carts!)
We are passionate about the environment and do what we can to run a "green" household such as: recycle and compost, serve food that is organic and local, use only earth friendly cleaning/household products, etc.
We would love to host you in our charming guest cottage, a 5 minute walk from Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove.
We look forward to meeting you!
