If you like to walk, a short 10 minutes down through ancient cobblestone streets are a great way to experience the Medieval feel and arriving in the village you can indulge in a coffee or nougat, ice creams, different biscuits and delicases, all made from ancient original recipes. White and black truffels are a speciality in this area and you must try the truffel pasta at the restaurant 'Agrie' near the village, if you prefer to go up the mountain , for the same 10 minutes you will find yourself at Alvito's medieval castle and village, where there is a small cafe & restaurant .
In the summer in Alvito, there is dancing and fiestas most weekends ending in a firework display around midnight.
We pick our own olives in November, It feels as if the whole village picks olives then, as it does in March when the wild asparagus is all over the hill sides.
We cannot guarantee the weather but we seem to have more than a fair share of beautiful sunshine. Alvito has a lovely atmosphere and we feel responds kindly to tourists. The Abruzzo National park is only around 15 -20 minutes away and well worth the trip. So much history yet Alvito seems to have achieved a very happy medium between the ancient and modern life. Nicci and her husband Peter were more than just gracious hosts. I now feel that we have friends in Italy. There home is amazing and situated in an incredible location on the edge of the most charming town we've had the pleasure to visit. We only regret that we only had two nights to enjoy there house and company. I'm sure we will be back to spend more time here.
Its never easy to describe oneself, I was a professional Jazz ballet dancer, I have worked in theatres & TV all over the world, meeting very many different nationalities, I am Internationally qualified as a holistic therapist and have worked professionally in my own natural health clinic. I have created different skin care products with essential oils, my partner is a (email hidden) looking after people comes naturally to us...smile, I am enjoying restoring this old place and picking our own olives for olive oil is exceptionally rewarding. I have a family history in this area as my great uncle was the priest here during the second world war. My father lived over at the other side of the valley with his grandmother until he went to Scotland at the age of seven. My mother was Scottish so I guess you could say I have a fiery mixture. When we are not working outside or inside in the house I enjoy cooking and having friends over. I am a musical type of girl & even now if I have the chance I love to choreograph, I guess I could say I see music as well as hear it...smile, I love most music and my two grown up kids. This would be a great place for someone who loves to paint...they sky is different every night. My life motto could be live to-day, tomorrow isn't here yet and now is really all we've got!
