Although its sits only 60 miles from the Arctic Circle, it has some of the best weather in Iceland. Summer temperatures frequently range in the high 20-°C!
Gunnar's house is the perfect location for families in the Akureyri region. You'll have stunning views on the city, a great hot tub to relax and plenty of space for five persons. Unfortunately we never met Gunnar in person, but whenever there was a problem (we had problems to operate the hot tub in the beginning) there was a quick and very efficient answer. This is really a great place to stay and a nice person to deal with!
This place is amazing! After a long drive we walked in to a beautiful view of Akureyri and a spacious house that would end up being our favorite of the trip. It's a great distance away from town giving you the feeling of being secluded, yet only about 5-7 minutes from the heart of Akureyri (by car). We did have a bit of a hard time finding the place, but Gunnar was patient and helpful. As a tip for others, cross over to the East side of the water (over the bridge). Drive North for a little bit and turn right (I think it was the second right). On the right side you'll see a set of three mailboxes, take a right there and drive straight in. It's MUCH easier to find during the day.
Gunnar's home is beautiful, clean and modern, with views of snow covered mountains. Gunnar was the best host one could ask for, always quick to respond and help in anyways. He had a cake prepared waiting for us for my friend's birthday. I cannot thank him enough for all his help!
Beautiful place. The owners were very helpful. View is amazing. Looking forward to staying here again.
This is an absolutely beautiful villa in a great location near Akureyri. Warning: if arriving in winter you'll need a 4 wheel drive to access the villa.
The outdoor hottub is amazing and we even managed to catch some northern lights from it :D
What a fantastic view and a fantastic house. Gunnar was as always very helpful and friendly. Our stay in Akureyri was perfect. Thanks a lot.
The house itself was amazing and in a fantastic location to spend my birthday! Gunnar was more than helpful on such short notice! Would stay again and highly recommend the place to explore Akureyri and the surrounding area.
Beautiful apartment! The view is even more stunning than the pictures. Hot tub is fantastic! Gunnar was very helpful and responsive when we needed his help.
Great place to stay and enjoy Akureyri whale watching, baths at Myvatn and dettifoss/godafoss waterfalls. We did the golden circle on this trip too, much preferred the north - fewer people and scenery more dramatic.
Our time in Akureyri was wonderful. We were there the first week of September and were blessed with hardly any rain. The city and surrounding areas are amazing. The house is in a great location, less than 10 minutes to the very quaint downtown area with shops and restaurants and a beautiful botanical garden and not too far from other area like Myvatn and Dettifoss. The view from the house was spectacular, made more so with the entire front in window panes! The first I notice when I walk in somewhere is how clean the floors are, and these were quite clean! It had more than enough space for us and our three year old daughter. The washer and dryer was very handy and a fully outfitted kitchen made cooking at home pretty simple. Make sure you do your grocery shopping at the Bonus as opposed to the other gas station grocery stores for better prices. Oh, and the Bonus is only open until 6 p.m. most evenings, which was shock for us Americans. :) The beds were very comfortable and so was the living room furniture. As far as the highlight from the time there, our trip to Dalvik for whale-watching was spectacular. We used Arctic Sea Tours, and we highly recommend them. What an authentic Icelandic experience made complete with seeing many whales, amazing day. Make a trip to Cafe Paris for a pastry and enjoy the very cozy ambience of this very old cafe. Overall, we highly recommend this house and this area. We spent half our time in Iceland here and the other half in Reykjavik. The drive to and from these two great cities was equally enjoyable. Don't be afraid to incorporate both cities in a visit. -Summer Simmons
We enjoyed our stay in that beautiful location very much, especially the wonderful view and our baths in the hot pot. There is plenty to do around Akureyri, the landscape is fascinating. Gunnar is a perfect host, he did everything he could to contribute to our gorgeous holiday. Thanks a lot.
