Where you’ll be

Pahoa , Hawaii, United States

Kaimu is a quaint Hawaiian Village within the Lower Puna District. Many of my guests feel that living in Kaimu is like stepping back in time. Some compare it to Hana (on Maui), yet Pahoa town is only 9 miles away.

Kaimu weather is known to be the best in all of Hawaii...plenty of sunshine filled days, and enough rain to keep everything green, most of the year. A short walk away (3/4 mile), is Uncle Robert's Kava Bar which is also Kingdom of Hawaii land, where many the old ways of the Hawaiians are still lived. They host a Wednesday night concert ($20 per person) with the best authentic live Hawaiian music anywhere in Hawaii! The Kava Bar is open to the public almost every night, and features live music by local musicians. There is also a "Mom and Pop" convenience store for your necessities.

Ever growing is the Saturday morning Kaimu Farmer's market, filled with all kinds of delicious farm-fresh foods and handmade gifts.

Right out my door is 500 acres of state land which runs along the ocean ~ all for your hiking desires. The hiking is over lava fields and through oceanfront low-lying vegetation. I especially love these hikes in the mornings and late afternoons for the sunrises and sunsets.

I have 2 small black sand beaches very close as well. Again, exceptional sunrise and sunset locations out your back door!

In the winter months, we may get to see the whales. At night, we hear the whales jumping and doing dorsal fin slaps. It is really awesome!

Just outside of Kaimu, you can drive the Red Road (a.k.a. Route 130), which is one of the most beautiful scenic coastal drives in Hawaii. It spans about 14 miles, from end to end. Kehena Beach, for swimming, and where the wild spinner dolphins like to frequent, is located 3 miles down the road.

As you meander further down the Red Road, McKenzie State Park, Malama Ki Flats, the Geothermal Hot Ponds and Poho'iki (former) Boat launch with the new Pohoiki Black sand beach are more spectacular locations to visit.

There are multiple activities around Volcano National Park: spend your days hiking the numerous trails throughout the park! Visit Kilauea Cauldron, visit Pu'u O'o vent, and learn all about the Volcano at the visitor's center. Take a helicopter over the active volcano to view the lava.

The City of Hilo and Hilo Airport are 35 miles away. Pahoa is 9 miles away.

Visit the huge and dramatic waterfalls just north of Hilo.

Be sure to check out all of the Local Farmer's Markets, with their variety of foods. Hilo Market is Wednesday and Saturdays from 8 to 2. Pahoa's Makuu Market is Sunday from 8 to 2.
Uncle Robert's Market, just 1/3 mile from Bali Temple on Saturday mornings.

Pahoa offers very good restaurants for your dining pleasures, grocery shopping choices, gift shopping, banking, gas, a Long's drug store, and more.
