Most guests arrive by car. Public transportation is available to the general area but not directly to the house so I recommend having transportation for getting around the local area.. Amtrak stops at Rhinecliff. Buses stop in Kingston, both about 20-25mins from the house. This said, folks have arrived by cab and tucked away for the weekend and had a blast.

Barbara's cabin is in a beautiful location and we found things as advertised or better. Barbara was a great host getting us all the pertinent info we needed but not overwhelming us, just letting us feel like we were on vacation.
I'd have great confidence renting from her again!
What a great getaway-from-it-all! The house is charming, perfectly clean and everything is in excellent working order. There is a spectacular rock outcropping in the backyard and the star gazing was beyond amazing. It is a very short drive to the Ashoken reservoir, home of bald eagles and some unparallelled views. I have rented houses and apartments all over the world, and would have to say that Barbara was the best host ever. Her communications are clear and directions to the house are excellent, While many hosts have "do and don't" lists that run on for pages, Barbara seems genuinely more concerned with her guests enjoyment, and fills her pages with suggestions on local attractions. It was a great pleasure for me and the whole family.
This is a very cute house in a lovely location. It is a bit far from the area towns which makes it perfect if you want to disconnect for a while.
The house is equipped with everything you would need or desire and would be perfect for parties ranging from two people to as many as 4-5 adults with kids.
Although the greater area provides plenty of wildlife viewing and hiking opportunities there is much to see on the property itself and in the adjacent woods. We spotted many bird species in the yard during July and I suspect that during spring/fall migration it would be possible to see a great variety.
Barbara's communication and information sheets on the area made the trip very easy. She is an attentive landlord/host who ensures her guests have an enjoyable stay.
My only suggestion to future guests would be to stock up on groceries on the way to the house, in Kingston perhaps, so that you don't have to make runs while you are there because it is about a 10-15 minute drive to the closest convenience store and a little farther to a full service grocery store. I wish I had planned a little better because with a full service kitchen, grill and fire pit there is no reason to eat out during your stay.
Barbara's cabin is great! Conveniently located within driving distance of NYC. Apprxm. a 2 hour drive from the George Washington Bridge. Very well stocked and homey with lots of amenities but not without a nice dose of rustic charm and backwoodsy seclusion. As a host Barbara was more than helpful and very communicative whenever we had questions about anything. Hope to return soon.
Great place to stay. Well appointed and cute, with a nice location and yard. Barbara was a joy to work with, great communication all the way through. Highly recommended!
We had a great time at Barbara's house! Everything was easy and the place is even cuter than the pictures lead you to believe. We loved spending hours by the fireplace and the surrounding property is great for exploring! A great getaway spot!
Very much enjoyed our stay! Farmhouse was cozy and quiet, and we loved hanging out by the fireplace. Full kitchen made it easy to cook. Would love to go in the springtime to enjoy access to trails and lakes.
It's a quick drive to Hunter Mountain and close to some cute towns.
Barbara was available if we needed anything and made sure we enjoyed our stay.
A great destination!
This is indeed a charming farmhouse. It is built in an old quarry and has a great natural setting. Barbara made it super easy to get the keys and we were close to everything we wanted to do doing our stay. Was a great choice for our family vacation and we all felt like it was hard to leave and so we cooked in most nights (even with the great dining around us). We will be back again!
Very nice person, the house is exactly as it was described, and even you get a hill of your own. Good location, on a very small country road, peace and quiet and when we needed assistance, it was immediately available.
