Casa Bella Vista: Great, beautiful contemporary Mexican-style 3-storey house with gorgeous views, in a very safe neighborhood. Nice comfortable private rooms with real beds (matrimonial in 3 bedrooms + queen in Master BR), good light in each room. Big balcony off 2nd floor. The 3rd floor has a huge 40' x 20' deck with 300 degree view of the city, perfect for entertaining. Great, large kitchen, and spacious Dining Room, Living Room. Beautiful tiled bathroom on the main floor, and full bathroom on the second floor as well. Parking for 2 cars, very nice garden with native plants. Fantastic quiet cul-de-sac, and safe, friendly neighborhood. It's a 15-20 minute leisurely walk to Centro. Buses are readily available for 5 pesos (40 cents) and you can easily flag a taxi to go back and forth for 30 pesos ($2.40) to Centro. Internet WIFI. Because it is perched on a hill, the house is always comfortable (not too hot, not too cold) and gets a lot of light. The guests rooms all have windows that open to the interior shaft for air ventilation. With its panoramic views from both the balcony and the deck, you see the sunrise, and the sunset.
20 minutes hike to Zona Centro, near Mommias Museum. On your walk to Zona Centro, you can see the Alhondiga Museum, Hidalgo market, Commercial, Jardin Reforma, and Plaza San Francisco ( very quiet park with restaurants), and the Diego Riviera and Frida Khalo house/museum (tucked on a side street). There are small local grocery shops 2 minutes from the house, and 5 minutes down is the Tepetapa street with its many diverse small shops. The walk is very easy to the Centro, but it's easier to take a taxi back home (for 30 pesos or $2.40), cause it's fairly steep, or take the readily available bus (5 pesos or $0.40) up the Tepetapa (Take the Mommias or Nuevo Panteon, and then hike the last 5 minutes. If you take the Mommias, you can stay on the bus to go around the hill all the way up to the sign that says "Bano" just above the museum Mommias. It will save you the hike along the Panteon Wall.
A typical day is to have a smoothie and breakfast in the house in the morning, then stroll down to the Centro and visit, stopping along for a snack at the Hidalgo Mercado; then visit some more, and have an afternoon 3-course meal (drink included) for $5-$7 in one of the nice small restaurants close to University, then slowly make your way back, shopping for your night meal at the Hidalgo Mercado, and take the bus or taxi back on time to catch some more sun and watch the sunset by 6pm. (Downtown gets very cool in the shade after 2pm, but the house has the sun all day).

Martine's house was exactly as described. The views from the balcony and roof were great and a perfect place to hang out in early morning and for sundowners. The house is a little way outside of the center but really just a 15 minute downhill walk. Taxis and local buses are cheap and easy to get on the way back although we also walked several times too. Martine was a great host and made sure we got to the house on our arrival and helped with arranging transport. Would definitely recommend this house.
Our stay in this house was perfect! We enjoyed the comfortable beds and the amazing views from the porch. The kitchen is beautiful and the bathrooms spacious. We would love to stay here again. The neighbor was so friendly.
It was great staying at Martine's house. It's a beautiful house with everything one may need to stay comfortably in Guanajuato. The distance to town is fairly short and, if you don't want to walk, the bus passes every ten minutes at the bus stop, a short walk away. Beds are comfortable and everything works in perfect order.
Communication was very easy and Martine's caretaker was available in case we needed anything.
Very good experience. Will come back for sure. Super recommended!
We had a wonderful time in Guanajuato! Martine met us at the house to give us a tour & show us how everything worked. She even took the time to explain where to get some food essentials. The house was clean & even more beautiful than the pictures. The only problem we had was getting up the narrow one way road the day we arrived. Other than that our stay was perfect!
I had a great time staying with Martine! She's super easy to get along with, always helpful, has plenty of knowledge to share about the town and also whips up great fruit-filled breakfasts. She gave me a very helpful tour of town when I arrived and more than once treated me to tequila on the deck as the sun set. She goes out of her way to make sure her guests are comfortable and having a good time in Guanajuato.
The house is wonderful. It's spacious, cool (temperature-wise), secure, well-equipped and filled with Martine's colorful paintings. The top deck is perfect for hanging out with friends at night, the second-floor balcony is best during the day when you need some shade. The rooms are all very comfortable. The master bedroom is a bit more luxurious with its spaciousness and view off the second floor balcony. The location is good.. fantastic view, nice neighbors, several small stores nearby, plenty close to town and not far from a main bus line.
I had a great experience in Guanajuato and look forward to returning and visiting Martine again!
House is exactly as pictured -- huge, roomy, beautifully decorated and full of amazing plants. The master bedroom is full of sunlight and we loved opening the big huge windows in the afternoon unto the amazing balcony. Details of how to get into town is exactly as Martine describes! The only downside was water and dog barking. For light sleepers - there is a whole chorus of dogs in the surrounding houses that bark kinda nonstop at night until about 3ish in the morning, so two of the five people in our party had a very hard time sleeping through the night. The second bathroom had no running water and the city also shuts off water on certain hours to the neighborhood, so be sure to ask Martine about this as it could affect your stay. Martine was very helpful, had maps of the city ready for us and recommended a great number of restaurants. She was easy to contact and very responsive!
Paloma rented the house for 4 people for 3 nights. She was very kind and super polite and left the place super clean. Her boyfriend and her loved the house as they stepped in. I was in town the whole time and left her a phone number and emailed her the day after as well to see whether everything was fine, as I noticed the morning of their arrival that my water pump was not working normally. I explained her the issue and ask to contact me if they had problems with the water. Guanajuato has a water issue, so everyone has back up water cisterns, and an electrical pump to pump up the water from a lower cistern. The pump functions automatically at night to fill back the water cistern. She replied to my email to talk about the time of her departure and coordinating the keys, and to thank me about information I sent to her. She even offered I stayed there the last night against a discount, to make sure I'd get the keys as they were leaving at 5 am. Unfortunately, although I never heard from them about the water issue, as I noticed upon my arrival back at the house, they did have a water issue as the toilet I had just had replaced the day before by a qualified plumber kept on flushing - something I hadn't noticed cause I used the one downstairs - because of the handle got stuck, therefore draining the water cistern for the 2nd floor during the day. She suggested I give her a refund and I am happy to offer $50 refund (on a 3-night rental) to compensate for not being able to enjoy the house as much as they should have (they didn't have use of the 2nd bathroom). However, this could have been avoided if she had said something - I could have gone right away and solved the problem myself (which I did in 2 minutes) and make sure they'd have water back in the cistern. It is very unfortunate for both of us, as they didn't have full benefits of the house - and I lost a good customer and maybe some more.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Martine's home in Guanajuato. She was extremely helpful prior to our arrival and a great hostess while we were there. Martine went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The house is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful Mexican decorations and style. Its location is perfect to either stay at the 3rd floor deck and have an awesome view, or to walk to the historic center. It is just up the hill from the famous Momias Museum! It was very convenient to have parking space there since it is very difficult to find elsewhere in Guanajuato! We would love to come back and spend more time there! We highly recommend this choice for any type of visit you plan in Guanajuato!
