Like many Moroccan cities, the city of Marrakech comprises both an old fortified city (the médina) and modern neighborhoods, the most prominent of which is Gueliz. It is served by Ménara International Airport and a rail link to Casablanca and the north.
Marrakech has the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world, Djemaa el Fna. The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers and musicians. By night food stalls open in the square turning it into a huge busy open-air restaurant.

" Welcome to my home in the trendy district of Guéliz! I know the city well and look forward to being your host to share my tips about Marrakesh"
Claude's apartment is on a posh area on Allal Al-Fasi street. Not within a walking distance from the main tourist attraction "Alfanaa' campus", but for a cheap cab fair you can easily make it in less than 10 minutes. It's relatively quiet and is close to a variety of good local restaurants. As for the room, I found it to be exactly as advertised; cozy, neat and tidy. What really struck me though was the attitude of Claude -- the host -- and his household. The language barrier was not a problem. They made sure everything was convenient and Claude personally serviced my room every day. They shared meals, and even prepared some upon request. I was overwhelmed by the friendliness of these people and surely hope to keep in touch for future visits. Highly recommended!
