It was wonderful. We were there for 4 nights (6 People) in November 2013.
We saw crocodiles on the river. It has a lot of animals around the house (dogs, cats, a pig, ducks).
The Cottages were very clean.
Tamara was very nice and gave us a lot of tips. She has often ask us, if we need something else.
The area is very quiet. I recommend a car, if you go to this Cottages. It's not a long way to Miami Beach.
Thank you so much Tamara for this lovely stay! We'll come back!
Me, my husband and our 2 little doggy just had a super wonderful time in Tamara's boathouse! We live in NY and travel to Miami every year, this is the BEST place ever! What a sweet, beautiful and breathtaking place!
In front of the house, you can see the calm river, around the house, there are so many friendly animals, beautiful trees, nature creatures make u feel like you live in a lovely jungle! If you love animals, nature creature, water, vintage style cottage, you must LOVE here as much as we do!
Tamara is a SUPER friendly, hospitable host/animal lover, she offers everything we need, we will definitely come back next year and will try another cottage and another cottage and another cottage(she has 6 cottage houses)... until we finally move to Florida one day! =)
It was an amazing trip. Tamara is a great host, everything was easy and pleasant. The boat house is just perfect – tasteful decoration, fully equipped and BIG ! Great price too – This is a little paradise !!! Highly recommended
We had a wonderful week in Tamara's boathouse. It was great after a busy Miami day, to go back to the tropical garden with the dogs, the chicken, the ducks & the pig!!
Our son's (12&10yrs) didn't want to leave, neither did we.
At the very last day, actually when checking out, we saw 3 manatee's, thank god, we could leave.
But we'll come back for sure!
Tamara created a magic place in the middle of Miami. We were dilighted of our peaceful boathouse. We feld like it was build for us. Tamara was super friendly, helpful in every aspect and unique. I think she is the real inventor of the lovable shabby-style ;-)
We loved her!
An amazing place close to Miami Beach, with a very sweet and helpfull host!!
We come to Miami every years since 5 years and it's the first that we found an unbelievable and so nice place!!
If there were more people like Tamara, the world would be a better place. She's welcoming, flexible and open.
Staying at her place is a trip in and of itself. The cabins, the animals, the canal, the luxurious plants, the crickets at night... and yet, really close from everything in Miami. We definitely want to come back. Thank you so much Tamara for keeping this place so unique and authentic.
My parents loved their stay at Magic City Farm which I arranged for them. My mom in particular enjoyed the menagerie of animals. I did get to visit them there and look forward to possibly staying there myself one day with some girlfriends or my son and husband. A beautiful, truly unique place. I am dreaming of it still!
We stayed at Tamara's boathouse for a week and in one of the cottages for three days. We enjoyed our stay very much.
We have just one word for the surroundings : Fantastic!!!
It's one place of Zen in the middle of busy Miami. We did our share of travelling but never found a place like this before.
We do miss Shorty and Erwin already :)
Thanks Tamara, for the wonderful vacation and the hospitality.
If you are looking for a unique experience in the Miami area then this might be the place for you. I recently went to Miami for my sister’s graduation and we stayed in the boathouse. My parents were on the bottom floor with my sister, myself and my niece in the upstairs. The space worked out well but be warned that there is not allot of privacy from the neighbors across the canal. The blinds are pretty see though and the bathroom doesn’t have anything to cover the windows at all, so if you are super shy you may want to stay in one of the other cabins. Tamara, the owner was a delightful woman who is straight from the 60s! She is very nice and very helpful with everything.
I gave only 4 stars strictly because of the neighborhood. While it seemed very safe once in the gates of Tamara’s it would not be a place that I would walk around in either in the night or the day. Other than that it was a very pleasant experience.
I'm having difficulty understanding several of Laura's concerns. First, regarding privacy. The bathroom window looks out over an enormous thickly leafed tree. Unless there are people in the tree, there is no way any one can see in. I purposely left the window uncurtained so as to enjoy the tree. The windows facing the river have curtains on them and I feel even super shy people would not feel exposed. I'm guessing that Laura is super super shy.
As for the neighborhood. This neighborhood is extremely safe and walkable in the day time. The problem is there is no place to walk to and it is essential that you have a car for your stay here in order to get somewhere.
However, I would advise anyone anywhere in Miami to be cautious at night. Not just in our neighborhood. A city is a city and can be sketchy no matter where you are at night. Walk in pairs where ever you are after hours.
And lastly, It feels slightly insulting to label me as straight from the sixties. I'd like to think I've kept up with the times and not become a stuck in the past hippy who hasn't managed to transit into the 21st century. Perhaps this is how the x-generation likes to sum things and people up.
