This is a large studio like apartment that provides plenty of privacy with its own bathroom, refrigerator, and private bathroom, but with the added bonus of access to all other common rooms if you want to mix and mingle with other guests or the hosts. Plenty of space for two
This is the room for you if you like lots of space to spread out. It can easily accommodate two adults for an extended stay, It's a huge open space that has it's own TV (everyone in the other rooms would share common TV in the den), and it's own bathroom (the other rooms have to share a bathroom.
The room is on the lower level of the house, has three large windows, a private bathroom, its own refirgerator and microwave, and a private entrance. It's more like a studio apartment than a private room but does not have full cooking facilities so I list it as a private room.
The neighborhood is suburban, which means there are dozens of local restaurants and shops nearby. The nearest mall is less than 2 miles away. The "city" is a half hour by train and the beach is about a half hour drive. Public transportation is within a 10-15 minute walk and you can take buses or trains to almost anywhere on Long Island, as well as the Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan. Montauk is about a 2 hour drive, the Hamptons are about an hour drive.
My place is unique in that I have a heated pool, outdoor ping pong table and BBQ for guests to use, and I am very easy-going. it's centrally located to EVERYTHING that Long Island has to offer. In addition, you will have access to the other rooms in the house, and you can use the main kitchen to save yourself some money by cooking your own meals. You can store any of your own food in my refrigerator and use my laundry room anytime you need to. ( That will also will save you a lot of money - public laundromats charge $5.00 a load to wash and dry your clothes) I love my home and you will too! I hope that the pictures can do it justice, but the warmth and coziness of my home are hard to capture on film. I look forward to meeting you and sharing my beautiful home with you. Happy travels!
Guests will have access to their private room and private bath, kitchen, living room, dining room, and den during their stay. Expect to spread out in my very large and very comfortable home, with plenty of lively conversational areas and quiet reading nooks.
Interaction with Guests
I follow my guests' lead. If you want to engage in conversation, I'm happy to oblige. I love to get to know new people. If you want peace and quiet, I understand. Sometimes that's all you need at the end of your day. Either way, I am happy to follow your lead.
We received a very warm welcome from our hosts, Geri and Tom. They both were willing and helpful in arranging the large room we booked to our taste.
They were always friendly, accomodating and interesting to talk with. We enjoyed the space and privacy afforded in our room as well as its proximity to the laundry room.
I enjoyed your company and the warmth that the two of you reciprocated. It is always nice to celebrate special occasions, such as the birth of your grandchild, with guests and it makes me feel connected and part of the celebration in some way. Send some more pictures of Lela when you get a chance. I'm glad that you enjoyed all the amenities and that our breakfast tastes were so similar. Steel cut oatmeal, fruit and yogurt make the best start to the day. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Ron has been stayed in our home, off and on, for almost a year now. He is always welcome back at our house. He has a lovely family and a great work ethic. He has left so many positive responses in the past. Keep reading further down the page to see all of his other responses.
Geri and Tom were great hosts providing engaging and friendly discussions. A beautiful home with up to date accommodations. A great family atmosphere which allowed you to be as involved as you want to be or just plain private if you prefer.
Great location that allows for quick access to the city, if needed or (in my case), quick access to the main Long Island parkways
Amazing hosts. I travel to New York with work. I stay with Tom and Geri, because it is like visiting family not another blah hotel. The other guests are great too, especially Mike. He is like an uncle to me.
The facilities were exactly as described, and I spent a warm and comfortable night. Geri was very helpful showing me where everything was and offering me the use of closet space, etc.
Wow is an understatement. My fiancé and I had a truly warm and heartfelt experience with Geri and Tom's graciousness. Our trip to Long Island began at a different location with a different person and ended miserably within the first week. Geri was luckily able to make accommodations for us. Though our trip to Long Island began with a rocky start it ended in a basement haven. Once we found Geri she made us feel so welcome and treated us to a clean and spacious room with a couch, a huge TV and a work space that was large enough for 2. If we are to return here we will surely stay with her again. Geri and Tom thank you so much for everything you all are amazing!
HI Frances - I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The haven you described isn't really a basement because it's half above ground, and has large 3 foot by 3 foot windows that let light in from every direction, but I'm glad you loved it. That space is the only space in the house with a private bathroom so I'm glad that you and Mike enjoyed your privacy, and private entrance, and own refrigerator during your stay. I hope that you come back to NY and visit some day. Remember that we have the monthly dinners with all of our "former" guests and hopefully you can attend one of them when you are back in the area. Have a great day. We miss you and Mike, and your friendly greetings each day. I hope the job search turns out the way you want it to, even if you don't live in NY, you know you can always visit. Stay in touch. Geri
Awesome, fascinating, incredible, marvelous, unbelievable and wonderful. All the words I can come up with right now to describe this host, her family and generosity. I can not think of anywhere else you would ever want to stay in New York. I do not feel like a guest, I feel like family in their home. From the Morning oatmeal and coffee to the walks around town with the other guest. Tom knows everyone in the local area and the history of every building and business in the area. I enjoy our conversation on our morning walks around the community.

I'm originally from Indiana, and moved to NY when I was 7. I have been married to my husband, Tom ( a native New Yorker) , for 28 years and we have 4 grown children. We both love meeting new people, reading, skiing, traveling, and hosting guests in our beautiful home. I am a 4th grade teacher in Brooklyn, a borough of NYC, and my husband is a retired NYC firefighter who owns and manages a sign and awning business. (Mineola Signs and Awnings) I like to bake, decorate, organize, play piano, take photographs, spend time with my adult children, garden, read, and relax in the backyard. My husband likes to garden, swim, walk, watch the Yankees, BBQ, and spend time with family and friends. We have a great relationship and we are each others' best friends. Our motto is "Find work that you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." and we are both fortunate in that we love our jobs. Another motto that we have live by is to "Live beneath your means." and that has served us very well over the years. We are easy-going but hard-working people and we take pleasure in our home and surroundings. We started hosting on airbnb to help pay for our daughters' wedding (in October 2014) and our son's college (he graduates in 2016) but have loved the experience and meeting so many new people that we will continue hosting for many more years. We love our house, and you will too!
