The Space

This is the room for you if you like lots of space to spread out. It can easily accommodate two adults for an extended stay, It's a huge open space that has it's own TV (everyone in the other rooms would share common TV in the den), and it's own bathroom (the other rooms have to share a bathroom.

The room is on the lower level of the house, has three large windows, a private bathroom, its own refirgerator and microwave, and a private entrance. It's more like a studio apartment than a private room but does not have full cooking facilities so I list it as a private room.

The neighborhood is suburban, which means there are dozens of local restaurants and shops nearby. The nearest mall is less than 2 miles away. The "city" is a half hour by train and the beach is about a half hour drive. Public transportation is within a 10-15 minute walk and you can take buses or trains to almost anywhere on Long Island, as well as the Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan. Montauk is about a 2 hour drive, the Hamptons are about an hour drive.

My place is unique in that I have a heated pool, outdoor ping pong table and BBQ for guests to use, and I am very easy-going. it's centrally located to EVERYTHING that Long Island has to offer. In addition, you will have access to the other rooms in the house, and you can use the main kitchen to save yourself some money by cooking your own meals. You can store any of your own food in my refrigerator and use my laundry room anytime you need to. ( That will also will save you a lot of money - public laundromats charge $5.00 a load to wash and dry your clothes) I love my home and you will too! I hope that the pictures can do it justice, but the warmth and coziness of my home are hard to capture on film. I look forward to meeting you and sharing my beautiful home with you. Happy travels!

Guest Access

Guests will have access to their private room and private bath, kitchen, living room, dining room, and den during their stay. Expect to spread out in my very large and very comfortable home, with plenty of lively conversational areas and quiet reading nooks.

Interaction with Guests

I follow my guests' lead. If you want to engage in conversation, I'm happy to oblige. I love to get to know new people. If you want peace and quiet, I understand. Sometimes that's all you need at the end of your day. Either way, I am happy to follow your lead.

  • I feel like family here. Geri will always ask if there is anything she can do for you. Tom and John feel like old friends. I have been here 4 months for work and will stay as long as they have room for me.

    Response from Geri:

I think you said it best "John's your brother from another mother" and he enjoys your company as much as Tom and I do. Thank you for always being so thoughtful and for all the little things you do around the house - they are noticed and they are appreciated! Thanks ! Geri

  • Samantha and Riker love you and your home. I can not wait until i return on Sunday and can go swimming!!! I hope there is a great new group of people to meet when i get back. You are welcome to come visit us in Texas anytime you like, but I would recommend fall or winter. When you have snow in NY we have 60's in Texas

  • AMAZING! Geri and Tom have been wonderful to my wife, Son and me. They made us feel like family. Geri pulled out her children's toys from 10 years ago for my son and he love them. Thank you for everything!

PS, John is a great backgammon player!

  • Absolutely FANTASTIC! We stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Shea for two weeks in there beautiful home and were welcomed in graciously. They met and exceeded by far any expectations we had. They went above and beyond in every possible area. I highly recommend their home as they will make you feel part of the family from the moment you enter to the time you depart. Two of the kindest, honest people I've ever met! We are excited to return!

  • Geri and Tom have been very hospitable en helpfull during our stay. Giving advise and tips to come around in the area, we could call them if we had problems.
You stay with them at their place, but you are totally free to do whatever you want. The rooms have space enough and are perfectly clean. We had our own bathroom and could use the kitchen anytime. We could come and go whenever we wanted to.

We had to be at a location nearby, but transport to Manhattan was also very easy with the LIRR to Penn station, taking around 30-45 min.
Contact with Geri was easy, quick and clear.

Staying with Geri and Tom can definitely be recommended!

  • My boyfriend Boa and I needed a place to stay for a month and a half while we were shooting a movie out in Queens NY. Our director found Geri's place and decided that it was great spot for us to commute easily to and from our shooting locations. Our experience staying with Geri and her husband Tom could not have been topped. They shared their beautiful home with us and took us in like family. Our space downstairs was perfect; quiet and completely private (especially crucial since our sleep schedule was all over the place) but at the same time you felt like you were living with your own family. They went above and beyond as hosts; they always made us feel invited, whether to dinner or an unforgettable Jack O' Lantern Light show in Westbury. We had an amazing time in NY making our movie, but a huge part of that can to attributed to how wonderful our living situation was with Geri and Tom. Thank you both for the best time!

  • I was in and out of the Great Neck area for an alumni weekend at Kings Point. The location was convenient and the house and accomodations were very good. I did not spend too much time at the house as I really just needed a place to sleep, but Gerri was a great host and made the whole process very easy. Charlie KP'88.

I'm originally from Indiana, and moved to NY when I was 7. I have been married to my husband, Tom ( a native New Yorker) , for 28 years and we have 4 grown children. We both love meeting new people, reading, skiing, traveling, and hosting guests in our beautiful home. I am a 4th grade teacher in Brooklyn, a borough of NYC, and my husband is a retired NYC firefighter who owns and manages a sign and awning business. I like to bake, decorate, organize, play piano, take photographs, spend time with my adult children, garden, read, and relax in the backyard. My husband likes to garden, swim, walk, watch the Yankees, BBQ, and spend time with family and friends. We have a great relationship and we are each others' best friends. Our motto is "Find work that you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." and we are both fortunate in that we love our jobs. Another motto that we have live by is to "Live beneath your means." and that has served us very well over the years. We are easy-going but hard-working people and we take pleasure in our home and surroundings. We started hosting on airbnb to help pay for our daughters' wedding (in October 2014) and our son's college (he graduates in 2016) but have loved the experience and meeting so many new people that we will continue hosting for many more years. We love our house, and you will too!
