PALAZZO CIANCALEONI AND RENATO GUTTUSO
Palazzo Ciancaleoni is well-known not only because is built on a Domus Romana dated I° Century Before Christ, but also because of Renato Guttuso, one of the most important contemporary Italian
painter, great friend of Pablo Picasso.
When Renato Guttuso married Mimise Dotti, they went to live in Palazzo Ciancaleoni in which he decided to establish also his own atelier. During this period Renato Guttuso produced a lot of important paintings.
After 8 years spent in Palazzo Ciancaleoni, Renato Guttuso was, without any doubt, one of the most important and famous Italian painter and he decided to leave it and, with his wife, they went to live and work in palazzo del Grillo, always in Monti District, where they spent all their life.

My wife and I loved to rest in these apartments! I recommend to all travelers.
Silvia is an excellent host, was able to help us out with everything we needed. Delightful ! the area is very central and its near the Metro Cavour. Do be careful though on the metro, pick-pockets are rampant.
We would definitely recommend Silvias apartments.
- Great newly renovated apartments, in a cute neighbourhood within walking distance of the Colosseum, metro station, shops, bars, supermarket, etc.
- Note we didn't stay in the 'Renato Studio' originally booked. Silva upgraded us on arrival to a larger apartment with a real bed. However our apartment also had a sofa-bed similar to the Renato - I tried it, and it was very comfortable. So I wouldn't be too concerned about the Renato sofa bed.
- There were a few teething issues with the new apartment, but nothing significant.
- The Wifi was very weak in our room on the upper floor. It was fine downstairs.
- The building has a lovely roof top terrace.
I actually stayed in a different apartment of Silvia's, about 20 minutes away from this one, but it was in a great location next to a Metro stop. We didn't actually end up using the Metro too much because a lot of historic Rome was walkable from the apartment. The apartment was clean, spacious, and had a well equipped kitchen and bathroom. I definitely recommend this place and Silvia is a lovely host.
We loved this apartment. From start to finish, we had a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic - there are loads of great restaurants and shopping within a 10 minute walk (not too touristy either). We could also walk to the Coliseum within 15 minutes and the train station (Cavour stop) within 5 minutes.
We had booked the Renato studio. Silvia does most of her bookings on FlipKey so there was a double booking and she put us in the Green Loft apartment instead. It was lovely. The Green Loft is a large loft with 2 beds, a kitchen and a bathroom with a tub. Perfect for a family with 2 kids. The loft space above does have a minimalist railing so you need to ensure your children won't slip through and fall. Our daughters are 3 years and 5 months so it wasn't an issue for us. A mobile child around age 1-2 years may be a challenge though.
Some tips - one of the best gelato places in town is at the bottom of the stairs - it's called Fatamorgana http://(email hidden)/. The pizza place there is also good. There's also a lovely lunch place around the corner called Aromaticus. http://(email hidden)
Also, Silvia or her assistant can help you arrange for a cab to/from the apartments. They can be difficult to find so doing this is worthwhile. We had arrived in our rental car and the apartments showed up incorrectly on our (website hidden) Maps so we had to ask for help from some people on the street.
