We had an absolutely wonderful time at Pennmeryl! Very relaxing, and it was so nice be around all the horses! Time spent watching the horses train, hiking and hanging out by the lake were my favorite moments.
Big country breakfast! The host and staff were very accommodating and kind. We will absolutely be back. Highly recommended! Thank you GC!
This was our second time staying at Penmerryl-- our first time in one of the cabins. I'm pleased to say that it was just as nice as the first time. The cabins are great, and it fit perfectly with our needs for two families enjoying the three day weekend with the kids. Would love to make this a yearly ritual for Memorial Day, but we're moving out west. Hopefully we can find something as good out there!
Awesome experience all around. The spot is just as described. Gammon was great. We will definitely be back for our out next family get away.
We loved staying at Penmerryl Farm and we'll be back! The log cabin with 3 bedrooms was very comfortable and we were greeted by a plate of home baked cookies on the dining table. The pool was only steps away, plus there was a grill where we cooked dinner and plenty of seating under the cabanas. We went canoeing on the lake, played pool, ping pong and foosball in the recreation house, walked and biked the trails, swam and soaked in the hot tub. The little boys enjoyed seeing the ponies, goat and the dogs. The stables are terrific! We all had such a relaxing and wonderful time.
I highly recommend eating breakfast with the hosts. It was delicious and we enjoyed meeting the other guests. Plus we had massages from Lydia at the farm, something else I recommend doing. Deanie and her husband couldn't be more welcoming. Penmerryl Farm is a great vacation spot!
This was a delightful experience in every regard. Our host, Deanie, was so relaxed and warm--we immediately felt at home. Actually, EVERYONE we interacted with at Penmeryyl was relaxed and warm. We enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast and great conversation with Deanie and her husband. The breakfast is excellent--don't miss it! The pool, hot tub and cabin were great and as described. AND, Deanie's daughter is an on-site masseuse. I had a 1 hour massage with her and it was heavenly. I certainly hope to go back again soon. The atmosphere is just great.
We came with my whole family of five plus our dog and had a blast! Couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the weekend or a better host. Deanie is incredibly warm, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the area - she should be the Airbnb spokeswoman. A great weekend getaway!
We stayed at Penmerryl farms, Greenville VA, 18th – 21st of May and I must say that it was one of our most wonderful B&B experiences anywhere in the world.
We were there for a special occasion, the graduation of my daughter from the Mary Baldwin College, and the hospitality and warmth that Deanie and Ken showered on us, is something we will not forget in a very long time. And there were 9 of us, including kids ! And all the while Deanie and Ken made us feel like we were staying with folks we had known for years.
The farm itself is particularly lovely, set in the rolling green Virginia countryside, and the couple of morning jogs that I ran round the lake, across the fields with the horses, and the farmland were outstanding. I would very strongly recommend Penmerryl Farms to anyone looking to reconnect and relax with Nature – plus the kids loved it. The fact that both Deanie and Ken live on the farm lends it that personal touch that is most always missing at hotels.
We really enjoyed the lavish breakfast spreads that Deanie dished out, (I never imagined I’d find good ol’ Marmite in Virginia USA - thank you Deanie !) which were made even more special by Ken’s accounts from his varied experiences around the world, includng growing up in Londn during the Blitzkreig.
Thanks Deanie and Ken, for making a special occasion spectacular and unforgettable. More than just a B&B, I believe we have forged a friendship, and we do look forward to a occasion to repay the hospitality if you ever travel to or around Singapore.
Thank You and God Bless.

About the Host, Madeline (Aka Deanie)
My husband, Ken, and I have raised our children here at Penmerryl and really enjoy sharing this wonderful place with others. We love to meet and host new people from all walks of life and all parts of the globe. I cook for and take care of my guests just like my family. I am originally from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and Ken is from London, England. We spent 7 years living on a boat and sailing before coming ashore to raise our family.
And now that time has come to step back a little from Penmerryl and go back to the sea for a while, and we are so happy to introduce to you our new Co-host here at Penmerryl, Gammon Castellvi. Gammon is originally from Venezuela and so is fluent in Spanish. She is also a fabulous cook and will take excellent care of guests at breakfast! Another huge plus in having Gammon on board is that she is an accomplished Equestrienne, with years of horse experience and the ability to share her knowledge with guests. If any would like to add a horse experience to their stay here at Penmerryl, that can certainly be arranged with prior notice.
