I had a wonderful stay at Marlous's home. She is a delightful hostess, and also her daughter. My accommodation was great, roomy, clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and I slept so well that I slept in each morning. My bathroom was spacious and lovely decor. The house is full of character and very relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble for Marlous, and I would definitely stay there again in the future. Thank you Marlous.
From the first momnet on I felt very welcome and well looked after. I have arrived in the evening and Marlous offered/invited me to some dinner with them....Marlous and her doughter are nice hosts. The house is like it looks on the pictures. I loved it. Hope to come back soon.
Marlous and her daughter were friendly but I'm afraid that's where it ends. I chose this house based on the reviews which I now question as being genuine. I have stayed in many bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, even tourist park cabins over the years. I inspected and rated hotels and motels for a large accommodation chain for several years and have never slept in such an uncomfortable bed. It's a very old mattress with mattress topper to try and disguise the fact that it needs replacing. Upon lifting the covers it had what looked like cigarette burn marks on it. The springs were popping all night resulting in no sleep at all despite taking sleeping tablets. Even my 15 year old didn't sleep and she can sleep anywhere. Marlous instructed us to wear slippers (supplied by her that looked like they had been worn previously) to walk on her dirty white carpet with mould stains around the edges. She also requested we wear white gloves to close the curtains. Even they felt dirty. The wardrobe was not exclusively ours. She still had her own clothes in there. There is no lock on the bathroom and toilet doors, not even a latch to keep it closed. The towels were very old and didn't feel fresh and the face flannels although washed were stained, old and stiff. I have better quality rag towels in my house. The shower was very dark and didn't feel clean. The fridge that was supposed to be exclusively ours was cluttered and not very clean. The kitchen bench was cluttered and there was a bucket to save water in the sink that had black slimy stuff floating on it. Not something one wants to look at as they are about to eat. The breakfast was just a heap of things piled onto the table and the cereal container was old and dirty as well. Nuttlex instead of butter!! The house itself is very cluttered and in need of a good overhaul. The exterior has lots of cobwebs and also needs an overhaul. Marlous said we were the first of over 400 people to complain which I found incredulous. She told me how everybody tells her how comfortable the bed is and how they overslept because of it. This was repeated over and over before I even used the bed. Then in the morning she asked her daughter to ask me how I had slept and the response to my complaint sounded very scripted. I felt they tried to intimidate me into not complaining as I would be the only one that ever had. Had I stayed another night I would have had to park my car in the street as the driveway was quite narrow and my tow bar scrapped on the way in and out. Marlous offered me her room and seemed desperate for me to stay but it was far from what was advertised so I checked out. Not a pleasant experience at all.
Wow, I don't know what my daughter and I did to deserve such a vindictive attack - Danielle and her daughter seemed so nice and we enjoyed their company so this review has come as a great shock. All Airbnb users know that reviews can't be faked and luckily guests I have had since their departure have again loved my home, our hospitality and slept soundlessly. What really hurt was that the reason for the clutter on the kitchen bench when they arrived was that my daughter had just cooked up a storm and made muffins and an apple slice especially for my guests and Danielle's daughter did not hesitate in enjoying the muffins. I could address each issue which is mostly untrue, can be refuted or explained; suffice to say this guest is not suited to Airbnb and would in future be better to stay at a hotel and not a home!
Marlous gave us a great welcome from the moment we booked. A fantastic house and great hospitality. Slept very well, and our own bathroom was fantastic. Marlous and Yalenka were a pleasure to stay with.
This was the second time we stayed at Marlous house for 5 weeks.
She is a very nice person and landlord, very caring about us as guests.
Nice quiet bedroom where we slept well. Own bathroom. Plenty of space in the rest of the house witch we could use any time. Easy parking.
A place we look forward to return to.
A very comfortable and convenient place to stay. Marlous, the host is a great person to be offering Airbnb accommodation, she is happy to be flexible on arrivals and departures, has lots of knowledge about Melbourne and goes out of her way to make you feel at home. So if you are looking for a place to stay for pleasure or business then I can highly recommend this location.
Our time within Melbourne was made so much better by the welcoming attitude of marlous and her daughter. The house was lovely and clean we had our own bathroom which a nice touch, we also had are own living area and use of the kitchen all in all it was a brilliant place and I'd stay there again in heartbeat.
Hello, My name is Marlous. My daughter, Yalenka, and I are keen to meet fellow travelers and learn about different cultures. I am a teacher, at a Vocational College and my daughter is a Primary School Teacher.
Originally from Holland, I am well traveled and know Melbourne like the back of my hand. I will be happy to help you with directions, advice on the best things to see and do during your stay.
We have a gorgeous large room on offer, with a double bed. Suitable ONLY for a single person or couple.
A private bathroom shower/bath/toilet is provided as well as a "help yourself" breakfast included in the cost of your stay.
We look forward to meeting you.
We have an elderly golden retriever and occasionally mind other dogs so you do need to be a dog lover. However, the dogs are only allowed in the back part of the house which keeps them out of bedrooms and the house clean.
