About This Listing

NEW PICTURES ARE UP! There is a new bed and the room was just freshly painted and decorated.
This is for private use of the master bedroom (approx 18 x 14) in a 2 BR shared apt (myself in separate bedroom) in the East Village which is perfect for a single or couple, who want to stay in a clean apartment and experience living in a great neighborhood in NYC. All while saving a few bucks from pricey NYC hotels that are usually located in tourist trap areas. It's very clean and has things no hotel can offer, like the outdoor patio right outside the bedroom! The building also has a 24 hour doorman / security, gym, laundry room and killer roof deck with views of ALL NYC and bridges.
This posting is for a large private room (with private patio!) in a shared space with myself (separate bedroom). This does not have a full kitchen (as pictured in my other listings), but there is plenty to prepare a gourmet meal; small fridge, toaster oven, microwave, and a hot plate to do light cooking/heating up food and all the utensils/tableware if you feel like ordering room service (over 50 local menus to choose from that will deliver right to your door!)
The cost is $ 115 per night (based on a 5 night minimum). If your stay is less than 5 nights, it's $ 125/night on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. I will reply with special offer reflecting your length of stay.
If you're the physical type, there is a gym (free) for your use in the basement of the building as well as a laundry room (coin operated), vending machines and ATM as well.
The bathroom has shower, sink and toilet, very clean, shared with myself, if I'm around.
This neighborhood is very lively after the sun goes down. The East Village has been heavily built up over the last 5 years and located in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan. The East Village offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and a beautiful park. You can walk to Indian, Russian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vegetarian and American restaurants within a 5 block radius. If you're too tired and beat up from touring NYC and don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply order in and have anything delivered to the room (usually until 11 pm or midnight). And these little privately owned restaurants are MUCH better than midtown/tourist-trap food chain places. There are at least three 24/hr places to eat within 1 block. This building is one of only a few in the neighborhood that has a doorman and an elevator. About 95% of the buildings in the area are walk-ups. Your "home away from home" will provide the NYC experience not soon forgotten: the spectacular panoramic view of NYC on the roof deck (elevator and outdoor furniture up there), a private outdoor patio with table and chairs, huge courtyard in middle of complex, about 100 restaurant/bars/cafes/shops within a 3 block radius and probably 500 within a 10 block radius. Enjoy a beautiful park (Tompkins Square) at the end of the block and an East River waterfront park about 4 streets/blocks to the east.
For additional fees and subject to availability to my work schedule, I can act as chauffeur to pick-up/drop off @ airport, take you to attractions in NYC, on Long Island, Catskills, Hamptons, etc. I can serve as your personal tour guide to all the tourist attractions, as well as to the cool, not-in-the-guide-books places for nightlife or dinner. Recommendations are always free, just ask! I'm happy to share what I've learned over the past 20+ years of NYC.
ADDITIONAL INFO / CHARGES:
For stays of more than 7 nights, a small deposit will be required pending on length of requested stay.
The room is for a single person or couple for the room. There is an air mattress if you are 2 people that would like to sleep in different beds.
Cleaning charges: As long as there isn't any excessive cleaning that is necessary, there is no charge.
Linens: Clean when you arrive. If you wish to clean WHILE you are here, there is a laundry room in the basement to do yourself.
Towels: Clean towels provided. Used towels will be collected and washed every few days.
Breakfast items: Included in price. Juice, Milk, Coffee, Tea, Pastries or Bagels or Cereal, along with paper supplies.
***PLEASE DO NOT MAKE RESERVATION REQUEST UNTIL I CONFIRM AVAILABILITY!!!!***
Keep noise down after midnight during the week. There are full time resident neighbors who live here permanently and work Monday thru Friday.
If you break something, you bought it.
Flexible CHECK IN / OUT. It all depends on whether guests are checking in or out the day you arrive/leave. Normally, if people are checking in the day you are leaving, you must check out by 12 Noon but you may keep your luggage safely stored until your flight leaves. If guests are checking out the day you check in, the house cleaner comes at 9 am or 12 noon, so depending on when the previous guest is leaving the place will be ready either @ 12 noon or 3 pm at the latest. If there are no guests checking in the day you are leaving, you may check out whenever you wish.
Guests who are brought over and stay the night may be subject to $ 30 extra person fee.
Smoke cigarettes OUTSIDE on the patios please!

We had a great stay at Bruce's apartment. Location is great, just a few minutes walk to the L train at 1st ave, which was fun to us since we got to get to know the neighbourhood on our way. The bedroom is larger than in the photos and the building is adorable! View from the rooftop is amazing and the east village is a very laid back area with great places to eat and drink and good nightlife. Bruce and Cindy were very sweet hosts and the bagels he got us for breakfast were simply the best! We wish we had talked to them more often but we left home too early and got back too late and didn't manage to meet much. So much to do in NY after all! I highly recommend Bruce's place and the East Village! Thank you guys!
Bruce's place is comfortable and convenient. The neighborhood is wonderful--right near Tompkins Square Park, lots of fabulous eateries and lively bars. We enjoyed the nearby East River Park, a great place for walking, jogging and admiring wonderful NYC views. Bruce was friendly and communicated clearly. He also provided an energizing breakfast as per our requests. We recommend Bruce's place enthusiastically!
Bruce was so helpful and accommodating. His communication was fast and information provided was super clear. The room is very clean, charming, and spacious (for a NY apartment!).

About the Host, Bruce
Update February 2014 - After 3 great years of success renting out rooms in my apartment, I now have another apartment for my painting studio / office to rent when I'm not working on a project, and I also take care of renting out my friend's apartment here in the East Village. Rather than looking through all my listings and confusing yourself, I suggest just shooting me a message and let me know your dates, the make up of your party (singles/couples/kids/grand peeps, sorry no pets) and any special needs you may desire. Take a look at my reviews and well, you'll get the picture!! I'll be delighted to add you to my wonderful guest list now topping 39 different countries!
As you'll see my original profile info below, I'm quite happy to say the last 3 years have been wonderful. I've met so many great people, both here and on my travels. Having me as your host, will certainly make your life easier here in the Big Apple. Pleasure, business or both I'm happy to share my vast NYC knowledge with you.
June 1, 2010: As a long time resident of NY, I've been living in NYC for the past 5 years, but grew up in the suburbs about 30 miles east on Long Island. Currently, I'm working as an Interior designer / General Contractor with an emphasis on performing the finish work myself and crew(s).
After traveling all around the U.S.A. for a Sales job for a few years after graduating college, I've learned a ton about the hospitality business, traveling in general and have how to treat people by doing my very best to surpass expectations. I provide excellent customer service, clean rooms in a great neighborhood, all in a beautiful apartment in the best city in the world, New York City!
