The Guest House at the Rensing Center is a beautiful, serene cabin the forest; conveniently located on a 27-acre piece of land in Upstate SC.
The sustainably designed architecture is a minimalist's and naturalist's dream - a perfect place to retreat and reflect in pure unadulterated nature.
Easily accessible to Clemson, Greenville, Lake Jocassee, and the highlands of NC, it offers the perfect blend of solitude and community.

The space
The Rensing Center has a property available for rent. This property, known as "The Guest House" is used as part of our creative residency program during the summer months. We are now seeking a like-minded tenant for a longer lease period during the fall/winter/spring months. The Guest House utilizes sustainable architecture and sits on a south-facing slope on our 27 acre campus. It is available furnished for $1000 per month.

The mid-century inspired Guest House is a private and perfectly inspiring retreat for 1 or 2 people...
The hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows create a light and airy feeling, tastefully decorated with an artist's touch. Complete with an office corner, full working kitchenette, full bathroom with shower and bath, queen-sized bed and screened-in outdoor patio that functions as both dining room and living room, this cozy space has everything you could want or need.
On the 7-acre property you will find a community garden with working compost, barn and pasture which is rotated by neighboring animal friends, shared library and laundry facilities, and a beautiful hiking trail that goes into a living forest with waterfall.
Our waterfall trail begins in the pottery drive which leads hikers on a 15 minute walk to a series of cascades totaling 80 vertical feet on a small creek.
Located just south of the NC/SC border, the house is within 2.5 hours of Atlanta and Charlotte, 1.5 hours from Asheville, an less than an hour from Brevard and Greenville.
Surrounded by nature and beauty and complete peace, yet with everything in the outside world just a short drive away... you won't want to leave!

Where you’ll be

Pickens, South Carolina, United States

The treasure of this unique space is how remote and surrounded by nature you are, yet just a hop, skip and a jump away from everything you need, plus the countless magical sites that the Carolinas have to offer...
Every Tuesday the Clemson Area Food Exchange (CAFE) delivers fresh, organic produce from local farmers' gardens to your plate; Just place your order online on Saturday, and you'll pick it up Tuesday at our favorite local health food store and coffee shop: Bee Well Honey Market in Pickens.
Pickens is a quaint and charming little town that boasts a church fish fry and fiddler's contest every 3rd Saturday of the month... do what you can to catch it! Just a 10 minute drive from the Guest House, Main Street Pickens is where you'll go for all your basic needs.
Wednesday morning is the weekly flea market in Pickens and not to be missed! You'll find everything from freshly caught shrimp and seafood, to a farmer's market, antiques, and many other random offerings. This is a HUGE flea market and true Southern theater. :)
Located just off Lake Keowee, we are just 15 miles from Clemson, 18 miles from Lake Jocassee, 28 miles from Greenville, and 36 miles from Cashiers/Highlands... we are surrounded by countless waterfall hikes, national parks, bike trails like Doodle Trail in Pickens, and popular tourist destinations/swimming holes such as Sliding Rock.
The nature lover in you will never run out of things to do!

In a career spanning over 40 years, Ellen Kochansky has actively promoted the arts, the preservation and extension of craft traditions, and environmentally responsible practices. She founded The Rensing Center to further these goals, and to connect the creative process to our need to live more gently on the earth. Her artistic practice is rooted in her experience as a textile artist, designer and quilter, and her work has always stretched those definitions to include experimental fiber and mixed-media art, public and private commissions as well as community-based and site-specific installations. For her company, EKO, she designed and manufactured custom quilts for 20 years. She has been an American Craft Council Trustee, a National Endowment for the Arts panelist, and a founding Director of Ripple Effect Sustainable Design Group. She has twice been chosen Craft Fellow by the South Carolina Arts Commission. She currently sits on the Executive board of the SC ArtsAlliance, and the Artist Services Committee of the SC Arts Commission, and has served on the Pickens County Cultural Commission and on the City of Clemson’s Green Ribbon Commission. Ellen has shared her experience through teaching and workshops, including Penland, Arrowmont, and the Innovation Institute (McColl Center, Charlotte, NC), and as a juror for national art shows such as Cherry Creek, Evanston, and American Craft Council, as well as South Carolina’s Verner Awards. Her work is included in The Mint Museum, The American Museum of Art and Design in NY, and the White House Collection, and she has been cited in various books, articles, and television programs, notably CBS Sunday Morning and the book Six Continents of Quilts.
