We had a simply lovely time at Gray Court. The apartment is just like the photos--even better, because we got such a kick out of the antique 1920's architectural details. Eddie and Kay were very responsive and their property manager, Phil, was very helpful on site. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Thank you!
We were met were met and introduced to our apartment. The arrangement was nice and comfortable for us and met our expectations. For a city dweller like me it was just the right spot for evening excursions to dining and cool downtown spots. Being an easy access off the freeway also made getting around fun. The rest of the neighborhood had charm and was very kept up as we toured around the city. Thank you and blessings.
We'd love to have y'all back anytime Tony. We'll check in to the furniture situation. Its sort of hard to fit a queen bed (not invented when Gray Court was built in 1928) and a dresser into these bedrooms. But we'll see if we can do something to make it a little roomier. Thanks for the suggestion and come back when you can.
Checkin was easy. My flight was late so Phil sent a text message how to get in with basic information. Inside there were detailed instruction sheets on how to access internet, etc. The apartment was clean and furniture comfortable. The entrance to the building is locked and the parking lot well lit so I felt comfortable coming in late at night. This is a really old building, so the first night I woke up a few times hearing the creaking of wood floors and the clanking of old pipes. I would definitely stay here again and my daughter is going to recommend to her friends coming from out of town. It is in an ideal location and a good value. Turn left out of the parking lot and a couple blocks away are West End restaurants and bars. A beautiful neighborhood. Turn right and head down the hill to downtown nightlife, shops and restaurants. There are several really great places to eat and drink around the apartment. Also, at the corner of the complex is a coffee shop. I remembered to pack some ground coffee so it would be available when I got up. There are some suggestions I will give to the owners but overall a good experience for me.
Sorry about the coffee Jane. We always keep it on hand. Did you check the refrigerator. Sometimes it is kept there and those pre made packets you just put in the top of the pot.
I'm happy to tell you that we are currently beginning a pretty major replacement of some of the old systems at Gray Court with much more energy efficient ones. Heating and Air conditioning are among those. But we'd never do anything to damage the very cool old character of the phone niches, glass cabinets, hardwood floors etc.. Come again in a few months and enjoy the upgrades.
Super close to downtown. Check in and out procedures were very easy. Very detailed instructions were provided. The space is huge for one person (especially coming from urban life). I'd stay here again.
Eddie and Phil were very prompt in their response and very helpful. The apartment gave me flashbacks to my days living in Brooklyn. Its a classic New York style apartment building with all the original character. With temperatures going down to 4 degrees it was heaven to have radiator heat.
The owners were very responsive and the apartment was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The check in was very easy and they were very kind to leave water and juice to start off my stay!

About the Host, Eddie And Kay
We're very young at heart boomers. We love to laugh. We also love travel, good wine, good music, good conversation, good food and interesting people. We have lived in Raleigh's oldest and coolest Historic District for over 25 years and have watched, enjoyed and participated in the resurgence of Downtown Raleigh. We love sharing Raleigh's treasures with friends and guests. You'll love The Little Nest as your Downtown Raleigh get away.
We've owned The William Gaskins House on the Neuse River in Downtown New Bern for over 14 years. It is right in the middle of the coolest Historic District in NC's colonial capital. It is a fun casual and very enjoyable place for your visit with family, friends or business associates.
We've owned and operated Gray Court apartments with great friends Phil and Pam Neari for over 12 years, as we watched Downtown Winston Salem come back to life. By 2012, Downtown W-S had become very alive with Great Culture, Music, Art, Food, Beverages and Fun. So we decided it was past time to have a get away place there so we could enjoy the fun activities which are going on there constantly. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy all these great activities and more at our Downtown Winston Salem Getaway. You'll love the 5 minute walk to everywhere in Downtown Winston Salem from the Winston-Salem Dash baseball stadium to great restaurants, bars, galleries, shopping and more!
Our philosophy as hosts is to provide "great getaways which are cozy like a bed and breakfast, but anonymous like a hotel". While we respect our guests privacy, we're more than willing to offer suggestions on fun things to enjoy and the "insider scoop" on the best of the best to see and do in our towns. We really love to get to know the real local culture from locals when we travel and enjoy offering the same opportunity to our guests. So by all means call us if you need us or would like to visit. Otherwise we'll give you your space.
