Our home is situated on the south shore of beautiful Kamaniskeg Lake. It is over 3 miles to the opposite shore of the lake and there is access to over 40 miles of boating. Kamaniskeg Lake is one of the cleanest lakes around and is a great lake to swim or fish. You will hear the loons in the summer. Relax on the sandy beach with a gentle slope in the water. We have a fire pit close to the beach where you can enjoy an evening fire (as long as there is no fire ban) and do some star gazing on the beach. If you are lucky, you may see some shooting stars or even the Northern Lights! I enjoy having my morning coffee watching the sunrise from my lawnchair on the beach.
Our home is Cape Cod style with view of lake from bedroom and living areas. We are in a beautifully treed forest filled with chirping birds and chipmunks. We heat our home with a wood stove so you may wake up to a wood fire on those chilly mornings. You are welcome to join us in the living areas and on the deck as well.
The road is excellent for walking or biking. Hike to the nearby waterfall or see the local sites and nature trails. Whitewater rafting and kayaking is nearby. Madonna House and gift shop are nearby as well as the Mayflower Museum, Crooked Slide Park, Hinterland Beach and other beautiful places.
Your room is approx. 13'x13' and is on the upper west side of the house and is air conditioned and heated! It has just been renovated for your comfort. It has a new comfortable queen size bed with egyptian cotton sheets with blanket or down duvet, TV, DVD player and small fridge. However we do not have cable or satellite connection we do have an internet connection. We have a large selection of DVD's available. The bathroom is on the main floor and has a clawed foot bathtub with shower and also laundry facilities are in the bathroom. The bathroom is shared. We only accomodate 1-2 people in the room.
You will always find fresh baking (I love to bake) and breakfast is included as well as tea and great coffee! Breakfast always includes fresh fruit and if we have the time, we make it extra special. If we are working, the kitchen is yours to make your own breakfast. Judy has a great little restaurant(The Inn Town Restaurant) in Combermere with wonderful hot meals. This year, the Bent Anchor outdoor restaurant and bar promises to be open and is a great place for lunch or dinner during the summer months. Combermere is 7 min. away and Barry's Bay is a 20 min. drive. Algonquin Park is a 1 hr drive.
We have a 2 person Kayak available in which you can explore the beautiful shoreline. Fishing off the dock is good and there are people on the lake who do boat tours for a fee. Even when it is a busy long weekend, it is not too busy here, very peaceful.
This room is suitable for 1 or 2 people only.
And yes, we are very welcoming, friendly hosts who look forward to meeting you!
We had a wonderful stay at the Kamaniskeg Lake! The place is truly great if you are looking for some quiet days in natural sourrandings. Marg and Andy are perfect hosts! We had really nice conversations while enjoying barbecue and bonfire! Thanks so much for your hosoitality! We recommend a stay at this place and hope to be able to come back someday in the summer!
We had a fantastic time at Marg and Andy's place in Combermere. They are extremely warm and hospitable and constantly made us feel welcome and relaxed. The house is in a good location for going not only to Algonquin Park, but also exploring some of the local lakes and towns. There is a beautiful dock, beach, and forests nearby for walks and relaxing. Pro tip: On a clear night, go lie on the dock and watch the stars. The dog is adorable (we're not even dog people) and we can't wait to go back. Highly recommended; can't wait to go back.
Our stay at Andy and Marg's house was incredible. We can not explain how grateful we are to meet them. The first day we got there they took us to a pub with life music and delicious food, it was very fun. They are really charming. We felt like we were at home.
The place and the house are both amazing. The house was very confortable, very spacious and clean. We felt like we were in a hotel. We are planning to go back again.
Marg took us to incredible spots where we had a great time and she even showed us the hospital due to my husband is a doctor and he was very interested in visiting it. We even thought about living there. We felt like we were in our own house. Last night they prepared a sweet soiree near the beach.
This experience changed the way we see life. Thank you marg and Andy. Thanks for everything.
Marg and Andy are great hosts! We had a wonderful time with them. The house is very well located and the view on the lake is just amazing. They gave us precious advice, took their time to take us to the local farmer's market and , last but not least, they allowed me to have my first kayak experience!!! Thank you both again for your time and kindness :)
Our stay at Marg and Andys house was awesome!!! They are very nice, welcoming and friendly hosts. Their house is clean, big and in a beautiful spot. The nature in the area is amazing! They have their own little beach at Kamaniskeg Lake which is not only great to enjoy the nature but also to see the stars and for example moonrise at night.
The house is in a great location, easy to find and perfect to visit Algonquin Park!
Marg provided us with delicious baking, breakfast and snacks-to-go in the morning. When arriving late, we were also offered a great dinner :)
Marg and Andy are both great people who have very interesting stories to tell, a lot of recommendations to give and simply are the perfect hosts.
The room is clean and cozy and perfect for 2 people to stay in.
We can fully recommend to stay at their lovely house. :) Also, they have a dog named Rav who is certainly the best dog ever! :)
We had a great stay with Marg and Andy! We were lucky to be there when the yearly boat-parade took place so we could join them. A great experience.
Marg and Andy are a great couple; they give you good advice, spoil you with fresh fruit and a delicious breakfast. (I want that rhubarb-raspberry jam!). The room is big, cooled with airco and everything you need is there.
@Marg and Andy: We will send you guys the pictures when we get home. Say hi to John/Elise, I will look up our recipe for "Pannenkoeken" (Crepes) for her that we use at home. :-)
My daughter fell in love with this place, the dog, Rav, and Marg and Andy. She is looking forward to return back. Our vacation was great! It's a privilege to be friends with Marg and Andy. Thanks a lot!
Staying with Marg and Andy was like coming home! We were spoiled, we felt really welcome. The beach, the canoo, the bonfire, the lake and especially the breakfast were amazing Canadian experiences. The house is beautiful and the room is spacey, even with the refrigerator and tv in it. The surrounding nature is unbelievable and only an hour away from Algonquin Provincial Park.
Marg and Andy are incredibly generous and welcoming hosts. Andy showed us some local spots including a nearby waterfall and was brimming with information about the local area. We were given use of their 'smoker' on which we barbecued some meats that we'd bought from the shop and we were kindly invited to join Marg, Andy and their son in sharing a delicious meal that they had prepared. To our surprise, we were presented with a yummy carrot cake after dinner to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Later on we were invited to join Marg and Andy to sit by the fire that they had set up. Many stories were shared and the view of the stars above was absolutely breathtaking! Our room was both spacious and comfortable and while we didn't have time to watch any, Andy advised that they have a good collection of dvd's to choose from. Breakfast was scrumptious and plentiful, as were Marg's cookies! We would highly recommend a visit to a nearby beach that Andy told us about - long and sandy and not a person in sight! Almost forgot, Rav is the coolest dog ever! We can recommend Marg and Andy without hesitation for those looking for a peaceful getaway in a spectacular setting.
Thanks so much! We really enjoyed your company. Remember the wolf track...well the neighbor had a motion sensor camera on and he said it was a wolf, he had a picture of it. Last Friday night, Andy was on the deck (I was in Toronto) and he heard them howling from around the same place as the track was. He said it was a pack of wolves. We've never heard them so close! Anyways, we are happy you enjoyed your visit to Canada and wish you come again! Marg and Andy
I can only endorse what has been said before. Andy and Marg are two very kind and welcoming hosts. Marg really loves to bake and cook and Carina enjoyed learning how making and canning salsa in her very fancy apron. We hope that the neighbor who made a photo of Marg and Carina will send Marg the funny photo. Marg even gave us a glass of salsa for taking home to Germany. The breakfast was very delicious, especially the pancakes were so good and we are happy that Marg gave us her recipe. The air-conditioned room was very huge and comfortable. Furthermore the location is breathtakingly beautiful with the sandy beach at the pretty lake where we had a wonderful kayak-tour. Besides we felt in love with Rav, the most relaxed dog we have ever meet in our lifetime.
We really enjoyed our stay a lot and want to say thank you again for the great time and the good advises for our stay. We hope see them again sometime ☺
