Listing highlights

On the outskirts of Eureka

A quiet rural setting minutes from King Salmon Beach, Old Town Eureka, and the Redwoods

Hot tub in a private backyard

Soak after a day of hiking, surrounded by the organic garden the host calls the 'secret garden'

A garden guests can't stop praising

Guests highlight the edible garden, where you can pick fresh herbs and veggies during your stay
Easy to find 1900 farm cottage on a private drive right off 101. Views of the bay & ocean, an antique barn & sheep pasture, & enchanting organic culinary garden. Relax in the hot tub in the "secret garden" after a day hiking through redwoods, then pick some fresh herbs & make yourself a memorable meal on the propane BBQ! Perfect for a romantic getaway, birdwatching, or family trip to "unplug." Not suitable for parties/uncleared guests. YES, we have high speed wifi!

The space
READ BEFORE BOOKING: Will consider one small, trained dog w/ pet fee if you bring a blanket and/or crate and don't allow them on the furniture. Comfortably sleeps and dines 4 adults with extra bedding for children. Please note: 1st bedroom has a Queen bed, 2nd has a Full/Double bed, 3rd has two Twin/Single beds, and the living room has a queen-size Futon sofa, but the dining table seats only 4 and there is only 1 bathroom. There's a Washer & Dryer inside the cottage for free guest use.

We have high speed wi-fi and a Roku TV (set to Guest mode, so you can log into your streaming services and it will automatically log you out on your checkout day).

Exterior camera on private lane. We have two neighbors on the lane, so while there's no need to whisper, this is not a place for loud music and shouting late at night. Please note that we are very close to the Bay and salt marshes, so you may hear the charming sounds of the coast (tiny frogs, ocean sounds, an occasional foghorn in the distance). It is much quieter than staying in town, but we can not guarantee 100% silence. This is a rural area next to an adorable sheep and goat pasture, so please keep that in mind before booking if you are afraid of wildlife (deer, foxes, raccoons, gophers, garden insects), and note that leaving food out may attract ants. Thank you for reading, we want to make sure you'll love our peaceful little slice of Humboldt as much as we do.

Guest access
Guests have access to the house, gardens, front yard, & backyard. There is no access to the garage, or the neighbor's fenced pastures - there are usually friendly sheep and/or goats who will greet you at the fence line though! :)

Other things to note
Health notes: There are allergen protectors on all mattresses, and all linens etc are disinfected using EPA-approved cleaners between guests.

No cryptocurrency mining or other excessive energy usage is allowed.

Neighborhood highlights

Just a couple minutes to King Salmon Beach, an 8 minute drive to Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge to the South, Old Town Eureka and its famous Victorians 10 minutes to the North, or Sequoia Park Zoo and the Hospital District 13 minutes to the North-East. Arcata and Humboldt State University are also just 22 minutes away. The perfect home base for Humboldt travels in all directions, and you don't have to worry about where to park your car at night! There is even a small market & deli within a couple minutes' walking distance if you forgot your toothbrush etc. We're at the edge of salt marsh and pasture lands and on the outskirts of the quiet Spruce Point neighborhood, with privacy fencing and a private drive shared with our neighbor.

I spend too much time: reading sci-fi novels

Humboldt County resident for over 25 years, and I'm happy to recommend local businesses and socially-distant things to do here. We're renting out this house while restoring and living in a historical fixer house nearby. The cottage has beautiful views and makes for a peaceful Humboldt staycation - I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!
