Our Mango Nest is a tiny A-frame hut at the bottom of our garden. This super-cooled 12sqm bedroom is as basic as it gets.

10 mins drive from Subic Bay CBD, 5 mins to Royal Duty Free, 15 mins to Subic airport, waterfalls and beaches. 30 mins to Camayan.

Ideal for giant poodle-loving couples looking for a simple rest house with its own detached private bathroom up the hill. We'll provide you with a cooler, grill, and utensils.

This hut has no ceiling! Expect falling debris!

The space
Mango Nest is a simple AC cooled nipa hut: a roof over your head, and windows to let the light in. A place to hang a towel, and a couple of side tables. Two rattan seats can be placed in the garden if you want to bask in the sun. A grill and utensils can be found in the hallway cabinet if you want to grill something up, and use our outdoor seating area when the weather is good. At night, the village is quiet, and the garden has ample lighting.

Mango Nest is located in the back garden of our Tuki Nest, which is home to two rowdy but friendly giant poodles. The garden is set lower than the road, so joggers and dog walkers can see into the garden.

Mango Nest has no ceiling, and nipa huts are notorious for bukbok, which is a tiny, wood eating insect. They don't bother people, but they generate wood dust, which falls onto the bed.

Where you’ll be

Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Central Luzon, Philippines

Kalayaan is one of the residential hills in Subic Bay. The housing area was built for the American Navymen who were stationed here in the 70s, and you can see from the houses that it still somehow looks like it did back then.

There is a convenience store down the hill where you can get basic necessities. For other needs, there are a few groceries and markets in Subic Bay CBD (Central Business District), about 5 minutes drive from the Boho Nest.

Kalayaan is a great place to watch for birds, monkeys, and other wildlife.

There are several beaches nearby. Our favourite beach just a short drive from the Mango Nest, Camayan (20 minutes drive) is a nice beach with a restaurant. Acea Resort is just down the road from the airport ( 15 minutes drive) and they have day packages which you can avail of.

For scuba diving, Subic Bay has some nice wrecks. Summer is the best time to go when the water is clearer. Let us know if you need help finding a dive shop and we'll point you in the right direction. Advanced divers only.

We highly recommend a speedboat day trip to the nearby coves. The dock is just 10 minutes from the house and it's the quickest way to go see the nearby beaches. More info in our guide book :)

For snorkelling and Island hopping, we recommend Zambales. Just an hour drive away, a good day trip is island hopping to Capones Island Lighthouse with a stop over at Camara Island for some snorkelling and lunch on the beach. The jump off point is Pundakit in San Antonio, Zambales. Let us know, and we'll set you up with a boat. Pundakit is also a great place to find surf from June-February.

He is a Musician and Film Director. I am a Cinematographer. We both surf and Produce surf films. We work from home but are out of town often. We live in Subic Bay with our five dogs. We love camping, surfing, traveling, and drinks on the beach with easygoing people. We keep to ourselves, so you won't see us unless it's needed. We'll give you your privacy while you're staying at our Nest. We're quite environmentally conscious so you won't see a lot of single use items at the Nest. We clean up after ourselves and respect the locals - and we hope you do too!

We live 5 minutes from our Mango Nest.

Feel free to call us for anything, and we'll get you sorted out. If we don't answer right away we're probably in the water, but we'll get back to you as soon as we can!

Our village is home to mostly foreign residents. They are quite friendly and may approach you for a chat. Please be nice to them! We like to maintain a good relationship with our neighbours.
