A beautiful 15th century cottage set within the pretty village of Chartham, Kings Head Cottage is spacious, full of character and warmth with unique original decor including exposed oak wooden beams throughout the building. It consists of two double bedrooms, one single bedroom, kitchen, shower room, bathroom and 2 lounges, all decorated in warm colours with a delightful garden and patio to enjoy al fresco meals. Oh, and parking too.
Due to the space within the house, it would be possible to easily accommodate 3 additional people (8 in total) if you supplied your own bedding.
Location & Getting About
Located 5 minutes from the historic city of Canterbury and 1 hour from London (by train, via Ashford), Kings Head Cottage is in a prime position from which you can explore the city, country and beach life (Whitstable, Margate, Folkestone) that The Garden of England has to offer.
There are many wonderful country walks to take from Chartham through orchards, fields and along the River Stour. Whether you are looking for an adventure or a peaceful stroll, we have a selection of OS maps for you to find your preferred path.
There is also a newly opened cycle path from Chartham to Canterbury following the River Stour. The route is entirely flat, and we've 2 mountain bikes available for you to use if you wish.
The cottage has a view towards the village green, with the River Stour passing close by.
Village features include a local shop, country pub (The Artichoke, selling delicious home cooked fare - 5 minutes walk away), a fine old church, and a railway station (1 minute away) connecting you to London via Ashford and to Canterbury (4 minutes).
Canterbury city centre is only 4 miles away, and has a fantastic and rich history, wonderful shops (varying from the large and modern to the bespoke, set upon ancient streets) and excellent coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. Having 2 main line railway stations (Canterbury East and Canterbury West), it's also a great springboard from which to explore London and the rest of Kent.
We had a great time in the cottage. The house is beautiful with lots of space and a garden. The kitchen had everything we needed. Very relaxing. We walked to Canterbury (about 1.5 hours) and drove to Whitstable. Kirsty recommended loads of things to do in the local area, and left lots of information. We had a nice lunch in the local pub. We were woken on Sunday morning to the sound of church bells ringing, definitely not something you hear in London. Highly recommend!
A fantastic weekend in a beautiful house, right on the village green, in easy walking distance from everything we needed. Five of us stayed and Kirsty made us feel very warmly welcomed. We were lucky with the weather and had a very calm, relaxing time playing board games and visiting a local farm. The cottage is an absolute delight and we really didn't want to leave when the time was up! Thanks again.
"Idyllic" is a perfect description for this charming yet spacious cottage in the Kent countryside. A real home from home, Kirsty is a thoughtful and friendly host, who met us on arrival and made sure that we had all the information we needed for our weekend. Excellent location for visiting Canterbury by either car or train. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer!
We had a wonderful weekend in Chartham. The village was lovely and a great place from which to explore Canterbury and surrounding areas. The house was nice and felt spacious, the outside space was great. There are a couple of things that could be amended for future visitors and we will mention these to the owners. The owners are very helpful and friendly.Overall we enjoyed our stay, thank you.
Lovely house, very quite, large and nicely decorated. We had a peaceful weekend there!
We had a fantastic & most enjoyable stay in the cottage. Kirsty's correspondence was prompt & we had no problems finding the cottage or checking in. The few goodies left for breakfast were a nice touch.
Very comfortable & beautiful old home. No problems at all & would recommend. Lots of local pointers were most welcome, we managed to fit in a couple around other pre-planned events.
We had lovely time at the cottage. Plenty of things to do nearby. Nice bike path to Canterbury for walking or running. Kirsty was very nice and left us fruits, breads, eggs and even flowers. Very much appreciated! Very homey and welcoming house. Our young children also had lots of fun.
Idyllic is a good word to describe our experience.
We had a great stay in Chartham. Kirsty made the experience easy and hassle free. The welcome pack incldued basic essentials and while we did a shop at a main supermaket, the viallage shop (short walk) would have been fine to use. The house had plenty of space for our party and the small courtyard was perfect for those of us with small children. Would recommend this host and cottage many times over:)
