The Space

Can accomodate three of either the same family or friends, with one person sleeping in the small study on a put u up bed,who would then share bathroom. Study is adjacent to the bathroom and on the same floor as the main bedroom. Stunning view to wake up to.
Skipton is known as the "Gateway to the Dales" and is listed as the No 1 best place to live in Britain according to the The Sunday Times 2014
A great place for walkers, serious or otherwise. Should you not want to go to the Dales there is moorland in Skipton as seen from our study window and elsewhere in Skipton.
We have a very small but cosy house in a quiet location, despite being so close to all the amenties one expects in a town. The odd hoot of an owl, screech of a fox, mooing of cows, bleating of sheep, can be heard. The latter can be viewed from the garden.
Beautiful views, from sitting room and from the study one can see the moors & woods.
4 mins walk from High St, considered the best in UK according to BBC. Radio 4. now Skipton has been voted by The Sunday Times, the best place to live in the UK.
Extensive & lively, colourful market, 4 days a week in nearby High St.
For those who love antiques, there is three floor shop, full of unusual items. There are also further very individual antiques shops in the town.
Skipton has so much to offer, 2 Theatres, Cinema, Museum & Modern Swimming pool set in parkland. Children's play areas, Mini golf, (summer only) also Golf Course adjacent to park. Canal walks, Canal Boating, Boat hire. Woods surrounding the medieval, 11th Century Castle which hosts events during the summer months. Interesting 12th Century Church, the latter two, within 4 mins walk of house.
Many good restaurants (we have counted 51 eating places within walking distance) offering Indian, French and Chinese dishes. Renowned Fish & Chip establishments. Loads of Coffee Houses nearby, including 94 restaurants.
Excellent shopping facilities with many small original shops, selling all manner of goods. Museum & Art Gallery, 2 Cycle shops.
3 Supermarkets & Marks & Spencers food hall. Now even a Poundland recent addition, all within easy walking distance from house..
Regularly held, extensive Saturday Craft & Flea Market in Town Hall in High St, again only a few minutes walk from our house.
We offer a B&B for a couple or a single person, (also a third person if required) in small but clean & comfortable room with, TV Radio, Various Teas & Instant or Real Coffee making facilities. Towels & linen provided.
We supply home made bread and a good selection for your Continental breakfast, which is available at times to suit our guests.
Use of study if required.
Use of kitchen
Guests have sole use of bathroom/toilet. Plenty of towels provided.
Use of sitting room
Use of pretty garden with lovely views.
No smoking permitted in house but smoking in garden OK
Friendly cat and hosts who enjoy looking after and meeting people.

Our small house is located off Raikes Road, 2nd sharp turning at, bus stop. This little road is not on most maps.
10 mins walk to railway station and 8 mins bus station. Buses (short rides) to nearby Dales villages. Leeds & Bradford, all within easy travelling distance by train or bus.
Manchester 1 hour by car.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We only spent 2 nights with Tom , Anne and Robbie at Skipton but I expect the memory will last us a lifetime ! A fascinating , intelligent, erudite yet grounded couple they are - and their generosity and insight touched us deeply. Skipton is perfectly placed to enjoy all the dales have to offer- and the beautiful town center with its markets, castle and all sorts of shops is just a couple of minutes walk away. Yes, the room is a little small, but we DID have a ridiculous amount of luggage! And the sumptuous breakfast and little treats in the room capped off a really special couple of days.

    Response from Thomas:

    Hi Kids,
Thankyou for such kind comments. We didn't get to Jorvik because the weather wasn't so good. Then it occurred to us wait until our daughter and her 2 children come in Aug and we can all go together.
Memoirs can't get past age 23 as too many people still living, would be involved.

  • Very welcoming couple that were extremely helpful in all ways. Comfortable room in a lovely terraced house. Couldn't ask for better than Thomas and Anne's hospitality. Thanks both!

  • Thomas and Anne greeted us as if we were old friends who had come to stay. Their home was warm and cheerful, very comfortable with nice amenities, and well located to explore Skipton and environs. The breakfasts were top notch, and they were very open to us having our picnic dinner in their garden or kitchen.
    We would highly recommend them.

  • I loved my time with Ann and Tom. I appreciated the character of the home and the proximity to the core of Skipton. My intelligent and convivial hosts went out of their way to make me feel at home, taking care to give me space but at the same time inviting me to join them. Highly recommended.

  • We really enjoyed out stay at the little cottage-on-a-little hill! The bedroom was cute with fabulous complimentary treats and a good breakfast (with homemade bread!). The hosts were helpful - suggesting places for dinner and they even let us watch the football game on the big screen in their lounge. The house was well located - very near to town. I would recommend staying here.

  • Ann & Thomas were great hosts, really enjoyed my stay. Skipton was close to the parts of the dales I wished to visit. The cottage is in the village, so easy to walk and have dinner after a day in the dales, car parking on a narrow street but a church parking area provides easy parking within 25m. Robbie the cat is friendly and attentive.

  • I had a very good time in Skipton. Good bed, lovely breakfast and interesting conversations. Anne and Thomas are lovely and helpful people. Everything except for the bathroom is small, but big enough.

  • This was a comfortable, convenient, and totally congenial place to stay that will be a very pleasant memory of our visit to the Dales. Our hosts were hospitable and provided extremely interesting conversation! A+ on all counts.

  • We really enjoyed staying with Anne and Tom in their lovely cottage. They were very welcoming and friendly from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed all the interesting chats and funny stories.
The breakfast with home made bread was tip-top and the bedroom was very comfortable. We were given use of the kitchen to cook a meal and could watch television in the lounge at night.
Even though it rained staying at Anne and Tom's seemed to make it better. A real home from home we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Hi, My name is Robbie and I am the owner of Tom & Anne. We would very much welcome visitors to our little abode, where they can be assured of a warm welcome in this lovely part of the world. Tom and Anne are both now retired, he from being a Systems Analyst and she from Hospital Pharmacy. We are keen on Swimming, reading, backgammon, chess, maths, music and having a good laugh. Having travelled quite a bit and lived in other countries we would like to hear of other's experiences.
