Gorgeous country retreat between Burlington and Middlebury. A "dimensionally transcendental" space (bigger on the inside!) built as an artist's studio, located in a meadow bordered by woods and a wide creek on 22 acres, gorgeous in all seasons. One large, 2-story room with two double beds: a bed on the main floor with a plush new mattress, and a comfy futon on the sleeping loft. There's a well-equipped new kitchen perfect for making romantic dinners, a full bath with a claw-foot tub, a radio/CD player, wireless internet, and a land line. As you can see from the reviews, it's a very special place, intimate in size but expansive in feel, because of the cathedral ceiling and wall of windows with a view onto the meadow, creek, and sunset. It's a beautiful artistic/rustic interior, quirky, but with a moderately high level of comfort. Perfect for an active vacation, a romantic get-away, or a creative, spiritual, or rejuvenating retreat.
The surrounding 22 acres of land are gorgeous in all seasons. There's great snowshoeing and cross-country skiing right outside. In the warm season, hang out in the outdoor living room nestled in a White Pine woods right outside the back door or swim in the creek that borders the woods. Walk .03 mile along the road pictured above and play in the waterfall or sun on the rocks near the covered bridge. A few miles away are Lake Champlain, hiking trails, and swimming holes. Explore Burlington, Middlebury, Vergennes, and Shelburne, and try their great restaurants, museums, and shopping, all within a half hour's drive. And don't miss the famous flatbread pizza served one night a week in winter and two in summer at Pizza on Earth, on a lovely farm 5 miles away, with a stop on the way to pick up beer or the perfect bottle of wine at Spear's country store. There's lots to see and do, but you might want to snuggle in and stay put.
Provided are linens, blankets, towels, and both feather and foam pillows, a travel hair dryer, shelves and drawers for your clothes. Also Scrabble and Backgammon.
Take a look at the reviews and see if it's the place for you: it is the country and there is the chance of encountering a mouse, spiders, crickets, and even fireflies inside. (Early September '13 PestPro was in for mice). The bathtub has a hand-held shower and is on a platform so if you're over 5'7" it's best to sit down.
Nightly price includes 9% VT hotel tax. No breakfast offered, but the kitchen is stocked with cooking basics.

We had the most wonderful romantic time at Janie's cottage! It was the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Total relaxation and privacy! Beautiful scenery and so much to discover outdoors. My boyfriend even proposed to me during a day-trip to Montreal which we were close enough to take a bus from Burlington. Wonderful place to read, relax, sleep and eat! We would love to go back during another time of year to experience the wonderful lake and trees. Thank you, Janie for an amazing time!

Oh my goodness. Janie's cabin is absolutely the perfect place for a peaceful, happy retreat. My husband and I went during the winter and we were surprised how warm and inviting the place really is. It's a dream spot where you can cook dinners, go for a leisurely stroll down to the river, and drink wine late into the evening. The best part in my opinion? The claw foot bathtub. A serene place with wonderful energy. Thank you Janie for being so lovely!
Janie's house was a dream! She was very easy to communicate with and we have really enjoyed her place.
I would definitely recommend it.
Janie has the ideal set up for a beautiful, serene getaway. My boyfriend and I live just 30 minutes away, but we felt like we were in another world - exploring the woods and creek, and holed up in her cozy cottage. It's magical.
Dominic and I had a good and quiet time at Janie's cottage. The kitchen is perfect for those who love cooking. The communication was really easy and we had all the information necessary for our trip. I would recommend the cottage anytime.
Wonderful winter week at the cottage! Though it was crazy cold and there wasn't enough snow for the snowshoeing we had planned, we found beautiful little hiking trails in Shelburne and had an all-in-all great, cosy, relaxing time. Food is wonderful EVERYWHERE and Pizza On Earth lived up to expectations.
Must be a beauty in the warmer seasons!
A happy and satisfied couple!
We had a great time at Janie's cabin. The space is aesthetically pleasing and we spent a lot of time just hanging out.
Janie was very helpful, quick to respond to questions, conscientious about the weather conditions, and a pleasure to interact with (albeit we did not meet in person, just email's and txt messaging was all that was required for a wonderful weekend).
Janie's cottage was lovely and cozy and we really enjoyed our stay there! Janie was very helpful and got back to us promptly with any questions we had during our stay. We would definitely stay there again!
Janie's cottage is one of the warmest most comfortable spaces I have ever stayed in. While it was cold outside we were toasty inside among Janie's wonderful decor, artistic accouterments and beautiful artifacts left behind by the artist/builder. This place made the perfect private backdrop for an anniversary weekend, Janie even left us fresh flowers. We would love to come back sometime in the summer for a dip in the creek.
Outstanding cabin in a superb location. Perfect for a getaway. Furniture, artsy deco, plug and play sound sytem, gaz stove everything was there. We ran out of hot water pretty fast though.. I would definitely go back.
