I am renting out my cabin at Vegglifjell to people wanting a unique cabin experience at the Norwegian mountains. The cabin is suitable for 2-3 families/12 people. It is located at the beginning of the mountain area Hardangervidda, 900 meters above the sea level, right above the tree line. The cabin has a 270° view of only nature without any other cabins or constructions.

The space
The modern architecture is designed by Snøhetta architects. This is a cabin that stands out from a traditional Norwegian cabin, still fitting into the landscape. The area is great for mountain trips all year around.

The cabin is located a two hours drive from Oslo. There is space for parking several cars right outside the entrance. You may also charge your electrical car here, either by using a Tesla charger (type 2).

The footprint of the cabin is 175 m2, including an integrated garage. The garage is used for storage of wood and you may prepare your skis there in wintertime. The cars are parked outside the garage. There is a large terrace at the south and west side of the cabin with good sun conditions. All floors are heated with water borne underfloor heating and all rooms are equipped with balanced ventilation.

The cabin's living room is large with 4.5 meter to the ceiling and panoramic windows with a great view. The open fireplace is hanging down from the ceiling and may be rotated to get a real campfire feeling towards the dining table or the sofa.

Please note that the cabin is really located in the mountains at a very special location where you can feel the nature with its peace and forces. You are far away from shops, restaurants and party places, but with a 270° view of untouched nature and maybe no other people. You will most probably not hear any sounds but the wind.

The cabin is located 900 meters above sea level, right above the tree limit. This gives you an open landscape with great views, but there is also no trees to protect you from the wind. The wind might be strong some times.

You might experience snow from October to May, but with large variations. Usually the snow conditions are good for cross country skiing from the end of December to April.

The snow plowing team is working hard to make the road drivable as much as possible the year around, however the last 1.5 kilometer of the road is only "guaranteed" to be drivable at certain hours:

Monday at 16:00
Thursday at 19:00
Friday at 19:00
Saturday at 16:00
Sunday at 16:00

During heavy snow falls and when the wind is strong the road can be impossible to drive shortly after the snow plowing. You might have to wait for the next snow plowing to be able to drive. The snow plowing team is usually doing more trips than at the hours above, but you are not guaranteed to be able to drive outside these hours. During winter season please bring food and whatever you need with you at arrival to the cabin in case you are not able to drive out until check out.

It might be possible to order an extra snow plowing trip if the snow plowing team has capacity. The charge varies depending on the amount of work, but typically cost around NOK 1000.

During winter season, please make sure that your car is equipped with good winter tires. A 4x4 car or chains are not required, but might be handy. You might have to wait for the snow plowing if there is too much snow in the road. We have many guests from around the world visiting our cabin. Some are not used to drive in winter condition. Please drive carefully and very slowly, especially when the road is slippery and you are going downhill. If you get off the road and need a tow truck, you might have to wait for several hours. The tow trucks are often very busy when the weather conditions are bad and they might have to drive a great distance to get to you. If your insurance is not covering such assistance, it might be expensive as well. Please make sure you always have hot clothes and food in your car in case you get stuck. Often other cars at the road may help you to get back on track again as well.

That being said, experiencing a real winter in the mountains is a memory for life! Being weather stuck in a cosy and hot cabin, far away from other people is really a beauty.

The kitchen is large and well equipped, featuring a steam oven, waffle iron and Nespresso machine. There is a large dining table with space for many people.

The cabin is equipped with a fast fiber connection and wifi.

The TV is hidden inside the wall/ceiling when not in use and lowered by an electrical engine. It is equipped with an Apple TV and you might log in with your own streaming accounts. There are also large integrated loudspeakers in the living room.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed (160 cm).

Bedroom 2 has a queen size bed (160 cm).

Bedroom 3 has a 120 cm twin bed with an upper 80 cm bed.

Bedroom 4 has a 120 cm twin bed with an upper 80 cm bed. In addition there is a small loft with entrance from bedroom 4. The loft has another 160 cm twin bed. This is a popular "cave" for older children.

In addition there is also a main loft with 4 mattresses.

In total there are 16 beds, but recommended for a maximum of 12 people due to the general space in the cabin.

There is a bathroom with shower and an additional bathroom without shower.

There is a large terrace. A campfire pan and a children sled are available in the garage.

Winter:
Ski tracks right outside the cabin with a network of different routes. "Fjellstua" is a great destination for a day trip with kids. Here you may buy something to eat. Downhill skiing is possible in "Vegglifjell skisenter", a 10 minutes drive from the cabin.

Summer:
Many good hiking and bicycle routes in the surroundings. Several lakes for fishing. In the Veggli town you may also rent a "dresin" for cycling on the old train route. There are a lot of cloudberries right outside the cabin during season.

The cabin is not rented out for party trips and there is a 25 years old age limit for the person in charge. Animals and smoking inside is not permitted. A local cleaning company will clean when you are leaving. Their fee of NOK 1 900 will be added to the rent.

Guest access
The whole cabin.

Other things to note
Please note that bed linen and towels are not included in the rent. Please bring your own. The cleaning company offers rental of bed linen and towels for NOK 200 per person. If you would like to rent please let me know and I will arrange for you.

There are pillows and duvets in the cabin. All duvets are 150x220.

The bed measurements are as follows (in cm):
Bedroom 1: Double bed 160x200
Bedroom 2: Double bed 160x200
Bedroom 3: Small double bed 120x200, upper berth 80x200
Bedroom 4: Small double bed 120x200, upper berth 80x200. In addition a small loft with two mattresses 90x200 each (as a double bed)
Main loft: 4 beds 90x200 each

You will find wood for the fireplace in the garage.

Where you’ll be

Rollag, Viken, Norway

The cabin is located at the very end of a smaller cabin area. There is a lot of space between the cabins to get the real mountain feeling. The cabin is located 900 meter above see level, and above the tree limit. This gives a great view and the area is open and with a lot of sky. It might be windy, and if you are lucky you might experience a real winter storm right outside the door wintertime.
