The Space

Spacious, two-level 1970's ranch style home on 5 acres with sweeping valley and forest views, ample sunshine and good vibes. Home is nestled on a serene, south facing ridge inside Nisene Marks State Park, famous for its 10,000+acres of redwoods, coastal live oaks and Aptos Creek. Hit the trails for hiking, running and mountain biking right out the backdoor, yet still only 5 minutes to world class beaches and surfing. Your host is a professional surfing instructor who can introduce you to the best waves Santa Cruz has to offer, and/or guide you to the best of Santa Cruz's authentic local restaurants, shops and hang-outs.

Primary accommodation for up to two people is the master bedroom with private bath. 3 other bedrooms with shared bath are available (+ couches) if you have a group or family. Full kitchen and laundry access is available as well as high speed internet. We are pet friendly, so feel free to bring your furry or feathered family members.

Home is most easily reached by car, but is convenient via bicycle and public transportation as well.

Look forward to hosting you!

  • Seven of us stayed in the house for a three day weekend and it was great. There is plenty of room and beds and we felt at home. It is close enough to the beach and Santa Cruz to not be a problem yet far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Ask Barry for a surf lesson too

  • Barry was great to work with! He was very easy to get a hold of. He had a beautiful home that was only 15 minutes from down town Santa Cruz. There was plenty of parking space and a ton of beds so all 10 of us girls had somewhere to sleep! The inside is quite spacious and perfect tor gatherings. I loved the outside deck, as it was huge and opened up to a great view.

  • Great host, great house, great experience. Barry is a very approachable and friendly host. We had a large group of girls and had a great time. Our favorite part was watching the mist fade from the landscape as the sun broke in the morning. Plenty of room and great scenery. Would recommend this house for a low key group looking for a quiet serene environment.

  • We had an amazing time at Barry's place! Came up here with a group of 9 guys for an afternoon and evening to surf and hang out in Santa Cruz. Barry was an excellent host and made renting surfboards and wetsuits a breeze by meeting us down by the water with all the gear and recommending the surf spot based on our group's experience level. We also arrived late and all surf shops close in Santa Cruz around 6pm. Renting from Barry allowed us to surf until 7pm without the hassle of dealing with a surf shop, transporting gear ourselves, and getting everything back before 6. I would highly recommend renting from Barry if you can!

As for the place, it is a great large space in a very beautiful wooded area with plenty of sleeping options. Combined with a pool table and a giant deck, it's the perfect place to spend a night or weekend in Santa Cruz. Everything was very clean and organized when we arrived, and Barry was extremely accommodating with our arrival and departure times.

I can't recommend this place enough, and I know that I'll be back in the future.

  • Barry is a good guy and easy to work with. He was communicative throughout the process and made my first experience with airbnb very positive. We had a guys weekend and, with about 10 of us, the house was plenty big enough to accommodate the group (with a couple couches and cots in use for sleeping). The location is a short drive into the hills, facing a serene meadow, and on a lot that provides some privacy. I would describe the house as an older family home but with a bit of cabin-like feel, and it has lots of nice interior and exterior space to enjoy. It worked really well for us and we had a great weekend.

  • This was my second time staying at Barry's house. It was better than the first time. As I did on my previous visit, I brought friends. Everyone had a great time.

The house is large. Thankfully it's a split level and I have a noise canceling headset; at one point I'm rather certain my friends were having a pool/bollards world championship downstairs. Based on the cheers coming from the great room, I think they did laps around the table with each win.
The weather was warmer than my January visit, making the deck more useful. Plenty of deer watching.

Barry is a great, friendly and informative host. I will continue to book his home for gathering with friends.

    Thank you Barry

  • My friends and I had a fabulous night in Nisene Marks. Barry has a beautiful home nested in the trees, but still with easy access to Capitola and Santa Cruz. There were 7 of us who stayed and the kitchen has plenty of space and utensils for group cooking and there are 4 separate bedrooms that made sleeping easy.
Barry was an excellent host and answered any and all questions and concerns in a timely fashion. I look forward to a return visit!

  • Barry's place is just as it seems- a 70's abode in a dreamy meadow with more room than you could ever need. The house isn't fancy, but it was perfect for us and our gang, out for a relaxing weekend in the woods. Barry is the nicest guy your could want to meet and was really thoughtful about our stay there- house was clean and cozy stove was blazing when we returned! He was really responsive and flexible. We will be back for sure.

  • Barry and his property embody the chilled out vibe of Santa Cruz; Barry is a very easy going host who made myself, a friend and my dog feel at home during our stay. Barry also fit my friend in for a memorable surf lesson and helped me out with some issues I was having with my VW van on the drive down from Vancouver. Thanks Barry!
