The space
Built by artists, The Snug celebrates fine craftsmanship, earthy luxury, creativity, solitude, and nature.

This artistic cabin is 650 sq. ft. and much care has been put into making it comfortable, conscientiously luxurious, and secluded.

Designed for up to 2 guests, the Snug offers a lovely space for couples to celebrate a special occasion or reconnect with what matters, and it’s also very safe and designed to be inviting to women solo travelers or creatives. (Each year the space is gifted to a woman writer or artist for 2-4 weeks for uninterrupted time to work on a creative project.)

In the cabin, you’ll sleep on a queen size, organic bed and pillows by Saatva, and organic bedding by Parachute and Garnet Hill. There is a skylight over the bed so you can gaze at the night sky, and large windows on every wall offering views of the rolling hills and woods.

A lovely selection of art is displayed throughout the cabin, with special attention paid to supporting women artists and artists from marginalized communities.

The custom kitchen is also fully stocked. You'll enjoy an oversized concrete sink, hand carved walnut countertop, 2-burner cooktop, Summit refrigerator, Fellow kettle, Chemex pour-over coffee brewer, a coffee grinder, toaster oven, dishes by Schoolhouse, ceramics brought back from galleries in New Mexico, and a Berkey water filter (the best filtration system available.)

Organic staples are also provided: oats, quinoa, rice, olive oil, spices, pasta and sauce, nut milk, sugar, condiments, tea and organic local coffee beans.

In the living area, comfortable seating. The couch is organic.
An oversized, vintage desk from the southwest offers a wonderful space for writing or drawing and you'll find a thoughtfully curated selection of books on the custom-made bookshelves.

The cabin is fully insulated, heated, and there is air-conditioning.

There is an outdoor shower with hot water on the large, secluded, back cedar deck. Also on the deck, a lovely table for two to enjoy breakfast & coffee in the morning or wine in the evening and comfortable seating including a caribbean swing chair. The toilet is located steps from the front door in the hand-crafted, insulated, cedar outhouse. The toilet is a state-of-the-art incinerating toilet from Norway. All of our guests describe this as one of their favorite features.

To avoid any confusion, there is no bathroom in the cabin. But you have the amenities of one, just distributed a little differently. Outhouse for toilet. Outdoor shower. Oversized sink in the cabin. There are photos of each of these in the gallery.

There is comfortable outdoor seating around the fire-ring, a hammock, picnic table, new Weber grill, and walking paths for you to enjoy.

Because this space has been designed to help you truly unplug, there is no wifi. There is cell reception.

Though we love teens, children babies, and dogs, this is an adult and human-only rental.

Check-In is after 4 pm and before 10 pm.
Check-Out is before 11 am.

This is a secluded, comfortable, dreamy, one-of-a-kind place in one of the most beautiful parts of Northern Michigan.

***NEW WINTER RESERVATIONS***
This year, 2022, we're experimenting with having guests in the winter season and will be offering two weekends, one in January, one in February. Friday and Saturday night only. See the booking calendar for availability. IMPORTANT info for interested guests. In the winter, the outdoor shower is turned off. There is no indoor shower. The outhouse IS heated. Why come in the winter?? In our opinion, it's the best season here. We get a lot of snow on this hill and encourage you to bring snowshoes. Though we do plow the two track leading back to the cabin, 4-wheel drive is required to reserve.

The cabin sits on a hill, surrounded by trees (you'll feel like you're in a treehouse,) above Lake Leelanau. It's surrounded by over 200 acres of private forest. You will love the seclusion while being just minutes away from Traverse City and a short scenic drive to all the wonders of our Leelanau Peninsula. To access the cabin, you'll drive through a neighborhood (but once you arrive, you will be tucked away in the woods.) Very close to the South Lake Leelanau boat launch-If you have a kayak or paddle board, I recommend bringing them along. Lake Leelanau is a huge, spectacular, pristine lake surrounded by woods and rolling hills. You are also welcome to hike around the beautiful property.

Hi, I'm Cathy. I'm a writer and artist who loves the outdoors. My interests are in embodiment, healthy living, connecting with nature, sustainability, and supporting the arts. I designed The Snug to be a comfortable and inspiring get-away and creative retreat. During the winter it's a writing and art studio. In the spring, summer, and fall it becomes a guest house that I love to rent to interesting people. A lot of creative work has already happened in The Snug, and I believe this imbues the space with wonderfully positive energy. As an airbnb host, my priority is in providing guests with a healthy, inspiring, and relaxing experience. I was born and raised in Canada, in a European family and culture that believed guests should be treated with warmth and respect. I enjoy sharing this beautifully and intentionally built cabin with travelers from all backgrounds and encouraging people to slow and quiet down. During your stay

I live nearby in the main house on the property. I do meet our guests upon arrival to review how to operate a few things around the cabin and because I want to know who you are. I love meeting new people. The cabin is tucked away in the woods on its own ten acres, so the main house is not visible except for at the entrance to the property. You will likely get a wave from me from the garden when you come or go, and you may occasionally see me walking the dogs through the woods, but other than greeting you and waving from a distance, and unless you have questions or need assistance, you will have complete privacy at the cabin.
