Architect-designed, this unique retreat is nestled in an ohia tree and hapu’u fern forest where only the ali’i (royalty) were allowed in ancient times. Refresh your spirit with the sounds of native honeycreepers and the whisper of the high elevation breeze through the trees.

Enjoy natural beauty and incredible privacy. Step out your door and into a quiet time and place. Stroll down the canopied lanes located less than a half-mile from the heart of the village or take in some of the many sights of the island easily accessible from here.

We are just five minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. Hike across the floor of Kilauea-Iki crater or to Halema'u ma'u, home of the fire goddess Pele, or take a night hike to see the active lava flows.

Your Volcano Village location puts you 40 minutes from Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where you may see turtles nesting and swimming, one and a half hours from from the City of Refuge, and only 40 minutes from historic and beautiful downtown Hilo with restaurants, shops, museums and nearby snorkeling beaches.

Amenities in the village include several diverse restaurants, 2 grocery stores, 2 gas stations, launderette, gift shops, art galleries, post office, a nearby local winery, 18-hole golf course and "da" best Sunday morning farmer's market.

Owners Boy and Debra live next door and are either quietly invisible or available to share their love and knowledge of the island. Boy, sometime actor, sometime small-event chef, was born and raised in the islands. Who knows, the sounds of the ukulele you hear just might be Boy practicing! Debra is an artist and yoga instructor. You will see some of her paintings in the cottage.

Come and share the magic of this land where the mornings are usually bright and sunny, the evenings cool and misty, and the colorful native Hawaiian birds sing all day long.

  • What a magical lovely guest house! We had such a relaxing time at the cottage we would gladly travel back again any time! The homey touches, the art, and of course the hot tub made our stay even better. Thank you Boy and Debra for being such thoughtful and welcoming hosts.

  • Beautiful place in the rainforest! Very peaceful, comfortable, and private with attention to many details such as providing umbrellas, flashlight, binoculars, bathrobes, reading glasses if you forgot yours, condiments for cooking. We LOVED the hot tub after a day of hiking. I have long hair and it was nice to have good water pressure in the shower. Very close to Volcano National Park for easy viewing of the crater after dark or very early in the morning. Boy provided excellent directions. I highly recommend this place and would stay here again in a second! Thank you so much for sharing your cottage :)

  • This is a fun little cottage. Very nice, clean, convenient to Volcano National Park. Has a range top, half size fridge, coffee pot, various cookware and dinnerware. It was slightly chilly at night, the house is stocked with lots of blankets and a space heater in the main room (it was very comfortable). The hot tub was great, it's in a rainforest! I didn't meet the host- they were out of town, but communication/ coordination with them went very smoothly. Once you have decided to stay here (which you should) follow the directions that the host has given you. I know you will want to listen to (website hidden)- but it will be wrong. It was a little tricky to get here, ONLY because we didn't follow the step by step directions- so follow their directions.

  • This was our first use of airbnb and it was perfect! Volcano was better than we expected and this cabin in the rain forest was the main reason. The Hosts think of everything and have everything well explained in the cabin, The Hot Tub cannot be missed after a long hike in the park. You really feel that you are all alone in the woods while staying here, but you are minutes from dining and the park. We will be back!!

  • This rainforest cottage at 4000 ft is really a dream holiday house! We are lucky for the decision to stay here for a whole week with 4 sunny morning. Having breakfast on the wooden platform facing the rear garden with birds singing as background music is really enjoyable experience. Boy is very friendly and helpful and guided me the direction to the cottage patiently when I got bit confused within the Volcano Village. We didn't meet Debra but felt very much her artistic manifestation that add life to the cottage and natural gardens. Soaking in the hot tub after a day of hiking and watching the stars in tree top is most comforting experience we ever had ! Thanks again to Boy and Debra!

  • We can't say enough good things about this place. It truly is an oasis in the rain forest. We enjoyed the cosy sitting room with fire place and the small kitchen for preparing light meals for they day, and the breakfast the first day was a very nice touch. We were visiting this area to go to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - and it only took us 10 minutes to get into the park. It doesn't get more convenient than that. We will definitely stay here again if we are ever back in the area.

  • Boy n Debra's cottage in the Volcano tree fern forest is amazing. So
Peaceful with the songs of many small Hawaiian birds in the morning
to serenade you while relaxing in the hot tub. The cottage is clean and
Tidy and has everything two people need to get away for a day or two
or . . . It was hard to leave! Thank you

  • We were delighted with this private space in the midst of a lush rain forest. Boy was quite helpful in introducing his space to us. We spent two very comfortable days there.

  • We really enjoyed our experience in the jungle at Boy & Debra's in Volcano. It was warm, cosy, peaceful and had all the facilities we needed (including a scrabble board). Plenty of heaters and hot water and a comfortable bed. The hot tub in the garden was also a joy. We used it twice (in 2 days) and didn't want to come out on either occasion. We met Boy (not Debra) and he was very friendly and accommodating. All in all we highly recommend it. One final point; we strongly recommend arriving in the day-light (as we did). It would be virtually impossible to find for the first time in the dark.

  • Great little get away in the rain forest. Very close to the National Park which made visiting the park nice as we stretched it out over a couple days. Hot Tubbing in the rain was awesome.
